  • In order to design capacity of lithium ion battery, some calculations were carried out based on the characteristics of materials by the given battery shape and dimension. The principle of design was built by the interpretation of the correlation of material, electrochemical and battery factors. Parameters of materials are fundamental physical properties of constituent such as cathode. separator, anode, current collectors and electrolyte. Electrochemical factor includes potential pattern as a function of specific capacity, specific discharge capacity(or initial irreversible specific capacity or Ah efficiency) as a function of specific charge capacity and material balancing. Parameters of battery are dimension, construction hardware and performance. Battery capacity was simulated for a lithium cobalt dioxide as cathode and a hard carbon as anode to achieve 1100 mAh for the charge limit voltage of 4.2V, the weight ratio(+/-) of 2.4 and ICR18650. A fabricated test cell (ICR18650) which have weight ratio(+/-) of 2.4 discharged to 1093 mAh for the charge limit voltage of 4.2V. The sequential discharge capacity show good correspondence with designed capacity.

  • High resolution 2.1” QVGA LTPS LCD (190ppi) having high aperture ratio of 65% could be successfully developed using state-of-the-art SLS technology and active/gate storage structure. Cost effective P-MOS 6-Mask structure was used. Full gate and transmission gate circuits are integrated in the panel. The high aperture ratio was obtained by using active/gate capacitance structure, which can reduce storage capacitance area. The aperture ratio was increased to 65% from 49% of conventional gate/data capacitance structure. The brightness was increased from 180cd to 270cd without any degradation of optical properties such as contrast ratio, flicker or crosstalk.

  • Electrospun $LaCoO_3$ perovskite nanofibers were produced for the air electrode in Zn-air rechargeable batteries using electrospinning technique with sequential calcination. The final calcination temperature was varied from 500 to $800^{\circ}C$ in order to determine its effect on the physical and electrochemical properties of the prepared $LaCoO_3$ perovskite nanofibers. The surface area of the electrospun $LaCoO_3$ perovskite nanofibers were observed to decrease with increasing final calcination temperature. Electrospun $LaCoO_3$ perovskite nanofibers calcined with final calcination temperature of $700^{\circ}C$ had the best electrocatalytic activity among the prepared perovskite nanofibers.

  • $SnO_2/Ag/Nb_2O_5/SiO_2/SnO_2$ multilayer films were prepared on glass substrate by sequential using RF/DC magnetron sputtering at room temperature. The influence of top $SnO_2$ layer thickness on optical and electrical properties of the multilayer films was investigated. Experimentally measured results exhibit transmittances over 84.3 ~ 85.8% at 550 nm wavelength. As the top $SnO_2$ layer thickness increased from 40 to 55 nm, the sheet resistance (Rs) increased from 5.81 to $6.94{\Omega}/sq$. The Haacke's figure of merit (FOM) calculated for the samples with various $SnO_2$ layer thicknesses was a maximum at 45 nm ($35.3{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}^{-1}$).

  • We investigate the scheduling problem for periodic job shops with blocking. We develop Petri net models for periodic job shops with finite buffers. A buffer control method would allow the jobs to enter the input buffer of the next machine in the order for which they are completed. We discuss difficulties in using such a random order buffer control method and random access buffers. We thus propose an alternative buffer control policy that restricts the jobs to enter the input buffer of the next machine in a predetermined order. The buffer control method simplifies job flows and control systems. Further, it requires only a cost-effective simple sequential buffer. We show that the periodic scheduling model with finite buffers using the buffer control policy can be transformed into an equivalent periodic scheduling model with no buffer, which is modeled as a timed marked graph. We characterize the structural properties for deadlock detection. Finally, we develop a mixed integer programming model for the no buffer problem that finds a deadlock-free optimal sequence that minimizes the cycle time.

  • Natural killer (NK) cells play a crucial role in innate immune system and tumor surveillance. NK cells are derived from $CD34^+$hematopoietic stem cells and undergo differentiation via precursor NK cells in bone marrow (BM) through sequential acquisition of functional surface receptors. During differentiation of NK cells, many factors are involved including cytokines, membrane factors and transcription factors as well as microenvironment of BM. NK cells express their own repertoire of receptors including activating and inhibitory receptors that bind to major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I or class I-related molecules. The balance between activating and inhibitory receptors determines the function of NK cells to kill targets. Binding of NK cell inhibitory receptors to their MHC class I-ligand renders the target cells to be protected from NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity. Thus, NK cells are able to discriminate self from non-self through MHC class I-binding inhibitory receptor. Using intrinsic properties of NK cells, NK cells are emerging to apply as therapeutic agents against many types of cancers. Recently, NK cell alloactivity has also been exploited in killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor mismatched haploidentical stem cell transplantation to reduce the rate of relapse and graft versus host disease. In this review, we discuss the basic mechanisms of NK cell differentiation, diversity of NK cell receptors, and clinical applications of NK cells for anti-cancer immunotherapy.

  • A method for decoupling reliability based design optimization problem into a set of deterministic optimization and performing a reliability analysis is described. The inner reliability analysis and the outer optimization are performed separately in a sequential manner. Since the outer optimizer must perform a large number of iterations to find the optimized shape and size of structure, the computational cost is very high. Therefore, during the course of this research, new multilevel reliability optimization methods are developed that divide the design domain into two sub-spaces to be employed in an iterative procedure: one of the shape design variables, and the other of the size design variables. In each iteration, the probability constraints are converted into equivalent deterministic constraints using reliability analysis and then implemented in the deterministic optimization problem. The framework is first tested on a short column with cross-sectional properties as design variables, the applied loads and the yield stress as random variables. In addition, two cases of curvilinearly stiffened panels subjected to uniform shear and compression in-plane loads, and two cases of curvilinearly stiffened panels subjected to shear and compression loads that vary in linear and quadratic manner are presented.

  • Purpose: Given the mixture components - process variables experimental data, we propose the strategy to find the proper combined model. Methods: Process variables are factors in an experiment that are not mixture components but could affect the blending properties of the mixture ingredients. For example, the effectiveness of an etching solution which is measured as an etch rate is not only a function of the proportions of the three acids that are combined to form the mixture, but also depends on the temperature of the solution and the agitation rate. Efficient designs for the mixture components - process variables experiments depend on the mixture components - process variables model which is called a combined model. We often use the product model between the canonical polynomial model for the mixture and process variables model as a combined model. Results: First we choose the reasonable starting models among the class of admissible product models and practical combined models suggested by Lim(2011) based on the model selection criteria and then, search for candidate models which are subset models of the starting model by the sequential variables selection method or all possible regressions procedure. Conclusion: Good candidate models are screened by the evaluation of model selection criteria and checking the residual plots for the validity of the model assumption. The strategy to find the proper combined model is illustrated with examples in this paper.

  • A novel nanofabrication process has been developed using two-photon crosslinking (TPC) for the fabrication of three-dimensional (3D) SiCN ceramic microstructures applicable to high functional 3D devices, which can be used in harsh working environments requiring a high temperature, a resistance to chemical corrosion, as well as tribological properties. After sequential processes: TPC and pyrolysis, 3D ceramic microstructures are obtained. However, large shrinkage due to low-ceramic yield during the pyrolysis is a serious problem to be solved in the precise fabrication of 3D ceramic microstructures. In this work, silica nanoparticles were employed as a filler to reduce the amount of shrinkage. In particular, the ceramic microstructures containing 40 wt% silica nanoparticles exhibited relatively isotropic shrinkage owing to its sliding free from the substrate during pyrolysis.

  • Generally, finite element models used in structural analysis have some uncertainties of the geometric dimensions, applied loads and boundary conditions, as well as in material properties due to the manufacturability of aluminum intensive body. Therefore, it is very important to refine or update a finite element model by correlating it with dynamic and static tests. The structural optimization problems of automotive body are considered for mechanical structures with initial stiffness due to preloading and in operation condition or manufacturing. As the mean compliance and deflection under preloading are chosen as the objective function and constraints, their sensitivities must be derived. The optimization problem is iteratively solved by a sequential convex approximation method in the commercial software. The design variables are corrected by the strain energy scale factor in the element levels. This paper presents an updated method based on the sensitivities of structural responses and the residual error vectors between experimental and simulation models.
