  • Distance relays achieve selective tripping by measurement of all short circuit fault conditions inside set reaches. The direction of the fault, forward or reverse is commonly determined with a dedicated measurement to ensure selectivity under all conditions. For the direction decision (measurement) a number of alternatives are available. This paper describes a loop selective direction measurement and illustrates by means of a typical fault why this is superior to a non loop selective direction measurement such as that based on negative sequence quantities.

  • In this letter, a discrete state, discrete time chaotic pseudo random number generator (CPRNG) is presented for stream ciphering of text, audio, or image data. The CPRNG is treated as a finite state machine, and its state is modulated according to the input bit sequence of the signal to be encrypted. The modulated state sequence obtained can be transmitted as a spread spectrum or encrypted data.

  • A 2-D digital filter with rational frequency response can be expanded into an infinite sequence of filterins operations. Each filtering operation can be implemented by convolution with a Low-order 20D finite-extent impulse response. If a convergence constraint is satisfied, the sequence of estimates will approach the desired output signal. In practice, as the number of iterations is finite, the frequency response implemented by iterative computations is an approximation to the desired rational frequency response.

  • In this paper, we present a closed-form expression of binary sequences of longer period with ideal autocorrelation property in a trace representation, if a given binary sequence with ideal autocorrelation property is described using the trace function. We also enumerate the number of cyclically distinct binary sequences of a longer period with ideal autocorrelation property, which are extended from a given binary sequence with ideal autocorrelation property.

  • Let g = g(A) = (equation omitted) + be a symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie algebra of type D/sub l//sup (1) with W as its Weyl group. We construct a sequence of root spaces with certain conditions. We also find the number of terms of this sequence is less then or equal to the hight of θ, the highest root.

  • This paper considers the cell formation in a manufacturing environment where the setup times and costs are significantly dependent on the sequence. The trade-off between saving on the setup costs and additional investment on new machines is considered for determining the economic number of cells. Accordingly, This paper develops a mixed integer program and mentions a variety of manufacturing situations where this model can be useful. This paper also includes an illustrative example.

  • For any non-negative real number ${\epsilon}_0$, we shall introduce a concept of the ${\epsilon}_0$-Cauchy sequence in a normed linear space V and also introduce a concept of the ${\epsilon}_0$-completeness in those spaces. Finally we introduce a concept of the generalized Banach spaces with these concepts.

  • Many methods have been developed to overcome the PAPR(peak-to-average power ratio) problem. Selective mapping(SLM), partial transmit sequence(PTS), subblock phase weighting(SPW) and gradient descent(GD) are used widely to reduce the PAPR. In this paper, we present an effective PAPR reduction method that decreases the number of calculations through Radix-2 DIF IFFT procedure and GD method that transmits selected data sequence. The data sequence is constructed by choosing elements that satisfy threshold value as one part of the sequence and the rest elements of each sequence are chosen to have the lower papr operating, which yields performance improvement.

  • An ${\alpha}-glucosidase$ gene (aglA) from thermophilic Bacillus sp. DG0303 was cloned, sequenced, and expressed in Escherichia coli. The aglA was localized to the 2.1-kb PvuI-XmnI region within the 5.9-kb DNA insert of the gybrid plasmid pAG1. The gene consisted of an open reading frame of 1,686 bp with an unusual GTG initiation codon and TGA termination codon. The amino acid sequence deduced from the nucleotide sequence predicted a protein of 562 amino acid residues with a M, of 66,551 dalton. A comparative amino acid sequence analysis revealed that DG0303 ${\alpha}-glucosidase$ is related to bacillary oligo-1, 6-glucosidases. The Bacillus sp. DG0303 ${\alpha}-glucosidase$ showed a high sequence identity (36-59%) to the B. flavocaldarius, B. cereus, and B. thermoglucosidasius oligo-1, 6-glucosidases. The number of prolines in theses four ${\alpha}-glucosidases. was observed to increase with increasing thermostability of these enzymes. The cloned ${\alpha}-glucosidase was purified from E. coli $DH5{\alpha}$ bearing pAG1 and characterized. The recombinant enzyme was identical with the native enzyme in its optimum pH and in its molecular mass, estimated by sodium dodecy1 sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The temperature optimum of the cloned ${\alpha}-glucosidase$ was lower than that of the native enzyme.

  • The 185 ribosomal RNA gene (185 rDNA) of the marine alga Porphyra sp. 723 (Bangiales, Rhodophyta) was amplified using the polymerase chain reaction and its sequence was analysed. The Porphyra species was a summer strain collected on rocks in upper intertidal zone at Ikidae, Pusan on 23rd July 1999. The fronds were $1{\~}5 cm$ long, monostromatic, and orbicular or ovate shaped, They had spinulate processes at margin of the frond, Comparison of this 185 rDNA sequence with the other Forphyra species indicates that Porphyra sp. 723 has the same 185 rDNA sequence derived from Porphyra suborbiculata (NCBI access number; AB 013180) except one base pair substitution in 2327 base pairs.
