  • In this paper, a new method for the mixed image separation is presented using the independent component analysis, the innovation process, and the expectation-maximization. Research on theoretical optimization and experimental verification of minimum resistance hull form based on Rankine source method

  • To obtain low resistance and high efficiency energy-saving ship, minimum total resistance hull form design method is studied based on potential flow theory of wave-making resistance and considering the effects of tail viscous separation. With the sum of wave resistance and viscous resistance as objective functions and the parameters of B-Spline function as design variables, mathematical models are built using Nonlinear Programming Method (NLP) ensuring the basic limit of displacement and considering rear viscous separation. We develop ship lines optimization procedures with intellectual property rights. Series60 is used as parent ship in optimization design to obtain improved ship (Series60-1) theoretically. Then drag tests for the improved ship (Series60-1) is made to get the actual minimum total resistance hull form.

  • Flexural tests on 3.0m reinfored concrete beams with epoxy and anchor bolt bonded CFRF-Grid reported in these tests. The selected experimental variables are concrete compressive strength, strengthening length and strengthening method. The effects of these variables in overall behavior are discussed. The results generally shown that the main flexural mode of strengthened beams is separation failure. The strengthening of the chipping by the tensile bar is really necessary in order to prevent CFRP-Grid from rip-off failure.

  • To resolve the differentiation problem of acetone and acrolein in the analysis of carbonyls by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), we investigated the optimum analytical conditions for their separation. Carbonyl compounds were collected by 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH)-coated cartridges. We examined the influence of three experimental variables: temperature (25, 30, 40, 50 and 60 ${^{\circ}C}$), flow rate (1.0 and 1.2 mL/min), and relative mobile phase composition (among acetonitrile, water and tetrahydrofuran). The experimental results revealed the optimum analytical condition of a flow rate of 1.2 mL/min, temperature of 32 ${^{\circ}C}$ and mobile phase composition of acetonitrile: water: tetrahydrofuran = 34 : 52.8 : 13.2. The analysis of indoor air composition indicated that acrolein and acetone comprised 11% and 42% of all aldehydes, respectively.

Exact mathematical solution for free vibration of thick laminated plates

  • In this paper, the modified form of shear deformation plate theories is proposed. First, the displacement field geometry of classical and the first order shear deformation theories are compared with each other. Using this comparison shows that there is a kinematic relation among independent variables of the first order shear deformation theory. So, the modified forms of rotation functions in shear deformation theories are proposed. Governing equations for rectangular and circular thick laminated plates, having been analyzed numerically so far, are solved by method of separation of variables. Natural frequencies and mode shapes of the plate are determined. The results of the present method are compared with those of previously published papers with good agreement obtained. Efficiency, simplicity and excellent results of this method are extensible to a wide range of similar problems. Accurate solution for governing equations of thick composite plates has been made possible for the first time.

열 점착을 이용한 혼합 폐 플라스틱의 선택적 분리 (Separation of wasted plastics by thermal adhesion)

  • 혼합되어 배출되는 플라스틱을 분리 및 선별하기 위한 기존의 방법들은 플라스틱 비중의 유사성, 입도의 제한 등의 요인으로 인해 단일재질의 플라스틱으로 분리하는데 많은 어려움이 따른다. 본 연구에서는 플라스틱의 재질별 연화온도와 점착 특성이 다른 점에 착안하여 열 점착 방식을 이용하여 혼합 플라스틱을 분리하는 방식을 개발하고자 하였다. 일상생활에서 사용되는 범용수지를 시료로 이용, batch 방식의 실험장치를 제작하여 온도를 변화시키면서 각 플라스틱의 점착 온도 범위, 점착율을 실험적으로 조사하였다. 또한 접촉시간과 플라스틱의 착색제의 유무, 입자 크기 등 다양한 조건들을 변화시키면서 그에 따른 영향을 조사하였으며 이를 실제 혼합 폐 플라스틱에 적용하여 분리효율을 조사하였다. 실험 결과 혼합 플라스틱에서 비중이 유사한 LDPE와 HDPE, PET와 PVC, 그리고 PP와 PVC 등을 온도의 변화에 의해 선택적으로 분리할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • Fin effectiveness and efficiency of a thermally asymmetric rectangular fin are represented as a function of non-dimensional fin length, width, fip tip surface Biot number and the ratio of fin bottom surface Biot number to top surface Biot number. For this analysis, three dimensional separation of variables method is used. One of the results shows that fin effectiveness can be increased or decreased depending on the fin length as the fin tip surface Biot number increases while fin efficiency decreases without depending on that as the fin tip surface Biot number increases.

  • The non-dimensional convective heat losses from each surface are investigated as a function of the non-dimensional fin length, width and the ratio of upper surface Biot number to bottom surface Biot number (Bi2/Bi1) using the three-dimensional separation of variables method. Heat loss ratio in view of each surface with the variation of Bi2/Bi1 is presented. The variation of the non-dimensioal temperare profile along the fin center line for a thermally asymmetric conditions is also presented.

  • Transient solution of asymmetric mechanical and thermal stresses for hollow cylinders made of functionally graded material is presented. Temperature distribution, as function of radial and circumferential directions and time, is analytically obtained, using the method of separation of variables and generalized Bessel function. A direct method is used to solve the Navier equations, using the Euler equation and complex Fourier series.

  • The non-dimensional fin length for optimum heat loss from a thermally asymmetric rectangular fin is represented as a function of the ratio of the bottom surface Biot number to the top surface Biot number, fin tip surface Biot number and the non-dimensional fin width. Optimum heat loss is taken as 98% of the maximum heat loss. For this analysis, three dimensional separation of variables method is used. Also, the relation between the ratio of the bottom surface Biot number to the top surface Biot number and the ratio of the right surface Biot number to the left surface Biot number is presented.
