This paper presents a method to evaluate generation rescheduling priority using transient energy margin sensitivity for power system operation. A change in any of the functional parameters obviously causes a change in the energy margin. Especially the energy margin sensitivity is evaluated for change with respect to generation. For a given contingency, the energy margin is computed and the respective sensitivities are also computed. It is possible to rank the sensitivities and thereby determine the generators which will affect the energy margin most and hence affect the stability (instability) of the system. The sign of the sensitivity indicates the direction of change in generation for a given change in energy margin.
In this paper, the eigenvalue sensitivity analysis is calculated in the power system which is including both generator controllers such as Exciter, PSS and thyristor controlled FACTS devices in transmission lines such as TCSC. Exciter and PSS are continuously operating controllers but TCSC has a switching device which operates non-continuously. To analyze both continuous and non-continuous operating equipments, the RCF method one of the numerical analysis method in discrete time domain is applied using discrete models of the power system. Also the eigenvalue sensitivity calculation algorithm using state transition equations in discrete time domain is devised and applied to a sampled system. As a result of simulation, the eigenvalue sensitivity coefficients calculated using discrete system models in discrete time domain are changed periodically and showed different values compared to those of continuous system model in time domain by the effect of periodic switching operations of TCSC.
In this paper, the authors formulate the sensitivity analysis algorithm for the natural frequency of a torsional shafting by expanding the transfer stiffness coefficient method. The basic concept of the present algorithm is based on the transfer of sensitivity stiffness coefficient, which is the derivative of stiffness coefficient with respect to design parameter, at every node from the first node to the last node in analytical model. The effectiveness of the present algorithm is confirmed by comparing the results of the sensitivity analysis and those of the reanalysis for the natural frequencies of a torsional shafting with a constant cross section. In numerical calculation, the design parameter is the diameter of the shaft element of the torsional shafting.
In this paper, a zinc electrowinning cell is fully optimized to achieve a uniform current distribution at electrode surfaces. To effectively deal with an electromagnetically coupled problem with multi-dimensional design variables, a sampling-based sensitivity approach is combined with a highly tuned multiphysics simulation model. The model involves the interrelation between electrochemical reactions and electromagnetic phenomena so as to predict accurate current distributions in the electrowinning cell. In the sampling-based sensitivity approach, Kriging-based surrogate models are generated in a local window, and accordingly their sensitivity values are extracted. Such unique design strategy facilitates optimizing very complicated multiphysics and multi-dimensional design problems. Finally, ten design variables deciding the electrolytic cell structure are optimized, and then the uniformity of current distribution in the optimized cell is examined through the comparison with existing cell designs.
In the area of assembly process of micro-chips and electronic parts on the printed circuit board, surface mounting device(SMD) is used as a fundamental tool. Generally speaking, the motion of the SMD is based on the ball screw system operated by any type of actuators. The ball screw system is a mechanical transformer which converts the mechanical rotational motion to the translational one. Also, this system could be considered as an efficient motion device against mechanical backash and friction. Therefore a dynamic modeling and stste sensitivity analysis of the ball screw system in SMD have to be done in the initial design stage. In this paper, a simple mathematical dynamic model for this system and the sensitivity snalysis are mentioned. Especially, the bond graph approach is used for graphical modeling of the dynamic system before analysis stage. And the direct differentiation method is used for the state sensitivity analysis of the system. Finally, some trends for the state variables with respect to the design variables could be suggested for the better design based on the results on the results of dynamic and state sensitivity.
To obtain a high performance in a direct vector controlled induction machine, it is essential to correct estimation of rotor flux. The accuracy of flux observers for induction machines inherently depends on parameter sensitivity. This paper presents an analysis method for conventional flux observers using parameter Sensitivity. The Parameter sensitivity is defined as the ratio of the percentage change in the system transfer function to the percentage change of the parameter variation. We define the ratio between real flux and estimated flux as the transfer function, and analyzed a parameter sensitivity of this transfer function.
In this study, and analytical method for ride sensitivity analysis of a train with non-linear suspension elements are proposed. Non-linear characteristics of springs and dampers for primary and secondary suspensions of a train are parameterized using polynomial interpolation. Vertical dynamic model of a three-body train running on straight rail with the predetermined roughness expressed in terms of spectral density function is set up and its equations of motion for ride analysis are derived. Using the direct differentiation method, sensitivity equations of the vertical dynamic model with respect to design parameters associated with non-linearity of suspensions are obtained. Based on the sensitivity analysis, improvement of ride is achieved by varying appropriate suspension parameters.
Soil and water assessment tool (SWAT) was simulated based on the default parameters and a priori soil parameter estimation method in Bocheong watershed of Korea. The performance of the model was tested against the measured daily runoff data for 5 years between 1993 and 1997. The sensitivity analysis of SWAT model parameters was conducted to identify the most sensitive model parameters affecting the model output. The results of SWAT simulation indicate that the overall performance of SWAT in calculating daily runoff is reasonably acceptable. However, there is a problem in estimating the low flow components of streamflow since the low flow components simulated by SWAT are significantly different from the measured low flow. The sensitivity analysis with SWAT points out that soil related parameters are the most sensitive parameters affecting surface and ground water balance components and groundwater flow related parameters exhibit negligible sensitivity.

We proposed a poly-dimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-coated fiber Bragg grating (FBG) temperature sensor for enhancing temperature sensitivity. By embedding the bare FBG in a temperature-sensitive elastomeric polymer, the temperature sensitivity of the proposed structure could be effectively improved by 4.2 times higher than those of the conventional bare-type FBG sensors due to the high thermal expansion coefficient of the PDMS. We analyzed the temperature-sensitivity enhancement effect with the increased Bragg wavelength shift in our structure and dependence on the temperature sensitivity with respect to the cross-section area of the PDMS.

A novel 3D shape optimization algorithm is presented for electromagnetic devices carry-ing eddy current. The algorithm integrates the 3D finite element performance analysis and the steepest descent method with design sensitivity and mesh relocation method. For the design sensitivity formula, the adjoint variable vector is defined in complex form based on the 3D finite element method for eddy current problems. A new 3D mesh relocation method is also proposed using the deformation theory of the elastic body under stress to renew the mesh as the shape changes. The design sensitivity f3r the sur-face nodal points is also systematically converted into that for the design variables for the parameterized optimization application. The proposed algorithm is applied to the optimum design of the tank shield model of the transformer and the effectiveness is proved.
