  • This research has attempted to investigate the perception of elderly women on self esteem, psychological well-being and the moderating effect of family support on self esteem and psychological well-being. Two-hundred and six of elderly women who used senior welfare centers had been participating in the research, and their questionnaires had been filled out during personal interviews. The collected data had been analysed by using SPSS Win 15.0 and the results of this study are as follows. Firstly, the level of self-esteem perceived by elderly women was a little bit higher than middle level and the level of psychological well-being appeared to be moderate. Secondly, it was found that the self esteem of elderly women affected psychological well-being and that the higher the participants perceived self esteem, the higher the level of psychological well-being. Thirdly, family support appeared to have a moderating effect in relation to self esteem and psychological well-being. As it were, the higher the perception level of elderly women was, the higher impact of their self esteem on their psychological well-being. Therefore, there needs to be a re-consideration of the importance of family support which is being weakened due to family nuclearization as well as mechanisms for improving family support.

  • Purpose: This study elicited Korean women's perceptions of the life situations that contribute to Hwabyung, a culture.bound psychiatric illness in Korea, and delineated a typology of the perceived causative factors for this illness. Method: A purposive sample of 21 Korean women was recruited from a church, a senior center in Seoul and a clinic that provides traditional Korean and westernized medical services to patients in the Gyeonggi area. Inclusion criteria were: 1) the diagnosis of Hwabyung by a traditional doctor or "stress reaction and depression" by a westernized doctor; and 2) a score greater than 40 on the Hwabyung Self.Report Instrument. Surveys using the HSRI and individual interviews using Qmethodology were used. Result: The average age of the participants was 53.7 years(range 35-84). The mean score on the HSRI was 46.2(range = 42-52). Data analysis showed that participants perceived three life situations to cause Hwabyung: vulnerable situation, lowered self.esteem, and negative life events. Conclusions: Korean women, suffering from Hwabyung, perceived at least three different causal patterns for this illness. Nursing care plans should be tailored to meet these differences.

  • The goal of this research was to find the relationship between the work environment and societal issues that impede women's advancement to senior management positions. The study included 500 women professionals from diverse firms in Pakistan's business sector, of whom 100 were chosen as the sample size using a purposive sampling method. Experts confirmed the validity of the study tool, which was a questionnaire, and Cronbach's alpha coefficient was used to verify its reliability (0.704-0.982). The model's standardized regression coefficients suggested that social factors (0.298) were the most important factors determining women's empowerment in terms of career development and that they were further influenced by factors related to the work environment (0.411). It was concluded that organizational rules for female employees assist them to maintain a balance between work and family, resulting in a less stressful working environment. The role of the social factor as a mediator is also thought to be important in maintaining a healthier work environment in companies. It was also determined that much more work needs to be done on promotional regulations, as well as gender-blind legislation so that women's professional advancement is not limited to middle management.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of health status and health management on activities of daily living (ADL) in older, urban-dwelling Koreans. Methods: A total of 206 subjects were recruited from one senior welfare center, six senior citizen centers, and subjects' home in two cities. Data was collected with self-reported questionnaires in order to measure health management, health status, and ADL. Data was analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, and stepwise multiple linear regression using SPSS/WIN 22.0. Results: ADL in this subject were different depending on their age, education, marital status, type of family, and average monthly living expenses. Multivariate analysis showed that age (${\beta}=-0.35$, p<.001), exercise ability (${\beta}=0.20$, p<.001), diabetes (${\beta}=-0.17$, p<.001), osteoarthritis (${\beta}=-0.15$, p<.001), caregiver (${\beta}=0.14$, p=.005), frequency of health management (${\beta}=-0.13$, p=.006), smoking (${\beta}=-0.11$, p=.019), hypertension (${\beta}=-0.10$, p=.027), and type of family (${\beta}=-0.10$, p=.036) were significantly associated with ADL. Overall, approximately 60.2% of total variability in ADL could be explained by the 11 variables in this model ($R^2=0.602$, F=32.06, p<.001). Conclusion: This study suggests that individualized health care should be continued for older, community-dwelling Koreans in order to improve their ADL. Moreover, we need to develop self-care programs and encourage them to participate in those programs.

  • The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze the baby boomers' perception of and preparation for their successful aging. Seven women and three men were interviewed with the use of an unstructured questionnaire. Their perceptions of their likelihood of future successful aging were not negative, and were influenced by a range of considerations that included health, leisure, finance, volunteer services, family relationships, and elderly life without children's supports. They tried to prepare several kinds of sports, leisure activities, and volunteer services for their elderly life. However, their reasons for preparing these activities varied, and the background of their differences consisted of the family background, personal values, and experiences. Moreover, men and women responded differently to their personal experiences as they related to their elderly life. Women were likely to match their family relationship with their perception and preparation for successful aging, and men were not.

  • The oriental medicine is necessary to the development of oriental medicine diagnosis, to satisfy the Senior-Friendly. We experiment on the elderly women in 3-D mac, and carry into effect the comparative-study on the youth's pulsation. The elder pulsation's division factor are analyzed press power, w/t, h5/h1 , dispersion of period. In the press power, the elder pulsation is shallow compared with the youth's pulsation. In the w/t (pressurization time / pulsation cycle), the elder pulsation is longer compared with the youth's pulsation, In the h5/h1 (dicrotic / main peak), the elder pulsation is small compared with the youth's pulsation. In the range of dispersion of period, the elder pulsation is narrow-changed compared with the youth's pulsation. Therefore the elder pulsation is characterized by the deficiency of flexibility and injection power.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the real condition of urinary incontinence(UI), interstitial cystitis(IC), atrophic viginitis(AV) for elderly women and analyze the cognition of traditional korean medicine(TKM) for them. Methods: We utilized questionnaire from May to June, 2010. Questionnaires were taken from 125 women using senior welfare center and nursing home, aged over 65 up to 92. The data were analyzed by $X^2$-test using SPSS/PC ver 18.0 program. Results: The prevalences of UI, IC and AV symptoms were 50.4%, 40.8%, 56%, respectively. The average I-QoL score for UI was $82.62{\pm}21.16$, and the average ICSI score for IC was $8.16{\pm}2.50$. After adjustment for each of the variables considered in this study, alcohol was associated with UI and age, BMI(body mass index) were associated with IC. Most of respondents have no experience(94.4%) or don't know (79.2%) about TKM for UI, IC and AV. 44 women(37.3%) indicated that they weren't willing to use TKM for UI, IC and AV. Reasons for not taking TKM were because of 'no knowledge of TKM(34.1%)' and 'more accustomed to western treatment(34.1%)'. Conclusion: Although the prevalence of UI, IC, AV for elderly women was high, the actual percentage of treatment for these diseases was low, furthermore, patients were not aware of TKM and had very few experiences of TKM for these diseases. The development and increased promotion about TKM program for elderly women's urogenital diseases is needed.

  • This study, using the free language association method, examined the characteristics of emotional words of respondents who were exposed to facial photos of women in 60s, and favorableness and favorable styles of them. To analyze mood characteristics on the faces, they were divided into positive mood words and negative mood words. Following previous researches, they were divided into introversion, extraversion, and ambiversion. It was found that the proportion of positive emotional words respondents used was 37%, and that of negative ones was 63%, demonstrating that respondents are more likely than not to get the negative impressions from the faces of their contemporaries. The characteristics of the words consists of 38% introversion, 47% extraversion, and 14% ambiversion. And, respondents used the words like 'beautiful' and 'good-looking' to the stimuli to which they felt favorable, and 'ill-tempered' and 'stubborn' to the stimuli to which they felt unfavorable. Third, the most favorable style to both male and female respondents in 60s were sentimental and good-mannered. They generally favor women who are soft and caring, and dislike talkative, snobbish, and thick make-up women. The analysis results in this paper may help image making and personal relations. Further study needs to expand the survey area to ensure more significant influence on the social life and interpersonal relationship of senior citizens.
