  • Let R be a ring, and ${\alpha}$ be an endomorphism of R. An additive mapping H : R ${\rightarrow}$ R is called a left ${\alpha}$-multiplier (centralizer) if H(xy) = H(x)${\alpha}$(y) holds for all x,y $\in$ R. In this paper, we shall investigate the commutativity of prime and semiprime rings admitting left ${\alpha}$-multiplier satisfying any one of the properties: (i) H([x,y])-[x,y] = 0, (ii) H([x,y])+[x,y] = 0, (iii) $H(x{\circ}y)-x{\circ}y=0$, (iv) $H(x{\circ}y)+x{\circ}y=0$, (v) H(xy) = xy, (vi) H(xy) = yx, (vii) $H(x^2)=x^2$, (viii) $H(x^2)=-x^2$ for all x, y in some appropriate subset of R.

  • Due to the fact that the dimensions of circuit lines of IC substrates have been forecast to reduce rapidly, engraving the circuit line patterns with laser has emerged as a promising alternative. To engrave circuit line patterns in an IC substrate, we used a projection ablation technique in which a metal (INVAR) mask and a DPSS UV laser instead of an excimer laser are used. Results showed that the circuit line patterns engraved in the IC substrate have a width of about 15um and a depth of $13{\mu}m$. This indicates that the projection ablation with a metal mask and a DPSS UV laser could feasibly replace the semi-additive process (SAP).

  • Carbon coils could be synthesized using $C_2H_2/H_2$ as source gases and $SF_6$ as an incorporated additive gas under thermal chemical vapor deposition system. The substrate with oxygen incorporation and the substrate without oxygen incorporation were employed to elucidate the effect of substrate on the formation of carbon coils. The characteristics (formation densities, morphologies, and geometries) of the deposited carbon coils on the substrate were investigated. In case of Si substrate, the microsized carbon coils were dominant on the substrate surface. While, in case of oxygen incorporated substrate, the nanosized carbon coils were prevail on the substrate surface. The cause for the different geometry formation of carbon coils according to the different substrates was discussed in association with the different thermal expansion coefficient values between the substrate with oxygen incorporation and the substrate without oxygen incorporation.

  • In this research, we compare the efficiency of two test procedures proposed by Prentice and Gloeckler (1978) and Park and Hong (2009) for grouped data with possible right censored observations. Both test statistics were derived using the likelihood ratio principle, but under different semi-parametric models. We review the two statistics with asymptotic normality and consider obtaining empirical powers through a simulation study. The simulation study considers two types of models the location translation model and the scale model. We discuss some interesting features related to the grouped data and obtain null distribution functions with a re-sampling method. Finally we indicate topics for future research.

  • Blowout of NR and SBR vulcanizates was studied using a microwave oven. Rubber vulcanizates with different contents of carbon black (0, 30, 50, 70 phr) and various cure systems (conventional, semi-EV, and EV) were prepared. Unfilled rubber vulcanizates did not exploded by irradiation of microwave, while carbon black-filled ones exploded within 10 min. A blowout time of the carbon black-filled rubber vulcanizate decreases with an increase of the content of carbon black in the vulcanizate. A blowout temperature of the organic additive-extracted vulcanizate is higher than that of the not-extracted one, but the extracted vulcanizate blows out faster than the not-extracted one. A blowout temperature of the overcured vulcanizate is higher than that of the undercured one with the same cure system. Temperatures of unfilled SBR vulcanizates heated by the microwave irradiation are lower than those of unfilled NR ones. The carbon black-filled SBR vulcanizates blow out at higher temperatures than the carbon black-filled NR ones. Blowout times of the carbon black-filled SBR vulcanizates are longer than those of the carbon black-filled NR ones.

  • Challenges in cognitive radio and tactical communications include recognizing anonymously received signals and estimating parameters in a blind or semi-blind manner. In this paper, we examine this issue for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signaling. There are several parameters in OFDM signaling, and the blind receiver must extract and consider the synchronization issue. We assume that the blind receiver is aware of modulation type, OFDM, and not aware of chip duration and the length of cyclic prefix. First, we present new criteria based on kurtosis to estimate these parameters and compare their performance at different levels of additive white Gaussian noise with methods based on correlation, kurtosis, maximum likelihood, and matched filter. Then, we perform synchronization and estimate the start time based on these criteria and several new criteria in two steps: fine and coarse synchronization. Finally, in a more practical setup, we present the idea of jointly estimating the mentioned parameters and the signal start time as coarse synchronization. We compare different criteria and show that one of the proposed criteria has the highest efficiency.

  • An in vitro cell study evaluating cell adhesion to hydroxyapatite (HA) coated prosthetic Ti-6Al-4V alloy via laser treatment is presented in comparison with uncoated alloy. Based on our previous in vitro biocompatibility study, which demonstrated higher cell attachment and proliferation with MC3T3-E1 preosteoblast cells, the present investigation aims to reveal the effect of laser coating Ti alloy with HA on the adhesion strength of bone-forming cells against centrifugal forces. Remaining cells on different substrates after centrifugation were visualized using fluorescent staining. Semi-quantifications on the numbers of cells were conducted based on fluorescent images, which demonstrated higher numbers of cells retained on HA laser treated substrates post centrifugation. The results indicate potential increase in the normalized maximum force required to displace cells from HA coated surfaces versus uncoated control surface. The possible mechanisms that govern the enhancing effect were discussed, including surface roughness, chemistry, wettability, and protein adsorption. The improvement in cell adhesion through laser treatment with a biomimetic coating could be useful in reducing tissue damage at the prosthetic to bone junction and minimizing the loosening of prosthetics over time.

  • This study analyzed the characterization of high temperature strength of $Si_3N_4$ composite ceramics additive based on variations in the amount of nano colloidal $SiO_2$ added. Semi-elliptical cracks about 100 ${\mu}m$ length were obtained from a Vickers indenter using a load of 24.5 N. The results showed that the heat-treated smooth specimens with $SiO_2$ nano colloidal coating exhibited the highest bending strength at 0.0 wt% $SiO_2$ nano colloidal added, which is amounted to a 187 % increase over that of smooth specimen. Limiting temperature for bending strength of crack-healed zone for bending strength was about 1273 K. However, the bending strength of SSTS-3 and SSTS-4 was considerably increased while that of SSTS-1 and SSTS-2 was decreased at a temperature of 1,573K.

  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is often used to identify local stress/strain concentrations where a component is likely to fail. In order to reduce the degree of strain concentration, component thickness can be increased in those regions, or a stronger material can be used. In short fiber reinforced composite materials, strength and stiffness can be increased through proper fiber alignment. The field-aided microtailoring (FAiMTa) process is one promising method for doing this. FAiMTa uses principles of dielectrophoresis to preferentially align particles or fibers within a matrix. To achieve the preferred fiber orientation, an interdigitated electrode network must be integrated into the mold halves which can be fabricated by additive manufacturing (AM) processes. However, the process of determining the preferred fiber arrangements and electrode locations can be very challenging. This paper presents algorithms to semi-automate the interdigitated electrode design process. The algorithm has been implemented in the Solidworks CAD system and is demonstrated in this paper.
