This study presumed that pre-service elementary teachers' stereotypical attitude toward foreign groups is critical factor to be considered in the context of Korean multicultural education. 422 pre-service elementary school teachers rated repeatedly seven ethnic groups on thirteen semantic differential scales which consist of four factors; attractiveness-unattractiveness, superiority-inferiority, rationality-irrationality, and aggressiveness-compliance. A series of repeated measure MANOVAs were used to test variability in pre-service elementary school teachers' stereotypical attitude across foreign groups. They rated Japanese the most positive, but Chinese the most negative, and others more or less positive in overall attitude. Their ratings of each ethnic group also varied across four attitude factors. Japanese and Whites were classified into the most attractive and superior, and moderately rational and aggressive groups. In contrast, Chinese were rated as the most unattractive, inferior, irrational, and moderately aggressive one. Southeast Asians were rated as attractive, compliant, and inferior one. In contrast, Arabians were rated as unattractive, aggressive, and moderately superior one. Finally, North Koreans were rated moderately superior, the most aggressive and irrational one. All these findings were discussed in terms of multicultural education in Korea.

The subjects consisted of 217 male and 351 female US undergraduate students. The experimental materials used in this study were 48 stimuli and a questionnaire, composed of 7-point semantic differential scales of 17 bi-polar adjectives. The data were analyzed by ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, Regression, and t-test. The major findings were as follows; First, interpretation type and application object had significant effects on the preference, while category and interpretation type had significant effects on the purchase intension. The application of Korean traditional motifs for pattern design was preferred to their application for clothing design. Decorative type was found to be more related to the preference and purchase intention than the other interpretation types of realistic, stylized and abstract types. The purchase intention on crain motif was lower than the other categories of lotus and cloud motifs. Second, in overall, the preference on Korean traditional motifs was higher than purchase intention. Third, the preference and purchase intention were affected mainly by 'Quality' image, a component of sensibility, followed by 'Cheerfulness' image, but not affected by 'Simplicity' and 'Modernity' image.

Purpose: This study was to investigate the attitudes of elementary school students on health curriculum. Methods: Based on the literary considerations and advanced research, a survey was conducted on Osgood's semantic differential scales on 329 fifth and sixth grade students in 6 elementary schools located in U metropolitan city regarding the attitudes towards health curriculum. Data were analyzed using t-test and multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: The overall attitude average grade was 3.46 in 26 factors, slightly exceeding the standard (3 points) which showed that students had a positive attitude towards health curriculums and thought health curriculums were valuable, necessary, and important classes. For each grade, the fifth grade believed health curriculums were more interesting, new, easy, necessary and valuable classes than compared to the sixth grade, and there were no differences between gender. The variables which affected attitudes in health curriculums included good feelings for health teacher, subject health status, and satisfaction in using the school health room. Conclusion: Because the better they think of health teacher, the higher the positive attitude towards health curriculums, a strategy which can build trust between student meetings not only during class time but also through operating a school health room will be necessary.
The discrete state theory on emotion postulated that there existed discrete emotions, such as happiness, anger, fear, disgust, and so forth. Many investigators who emphasized discreteness of emotions have suggested that discrete emotions entailed their specific activities in the autonomic nervous system. The purposes of this study were to develop a model of emotion-specific physiological response patterns. The study postulated six emotions (i.e., happiness, sadness, anger, disgust, fear, and surprise) as the basic discrete emotions. Thirty eight college students participated in the present study. Twelve slides (2 for each emotion category) were presented to the subjects in random order. During resting period of 30 s prior to the presentation of each slide, four presentation of each slide, four physiological measures (EEG, ECG, EDA, and respiration) were recorded to establish a baseline. The same physiological measures were recorded while each slide was being presented for 60 s (producing an emotional sate). Then, the subjects were asked to rate the degree of emotion induced by the slide on semantic differential scales. This procedure was repeated for every slide. Based upon the results, a model of emotion-specific physiological response patterns was developed: four emotion (fear, disgust, sadness, and anger) were classified according to the characteristics of EEG and autonomic responses. However, emotions of happiness and surprise were not distinguished by any combination of the physiological measures employed in this study, suggesting another appropriate measure should be adopted for differentiation.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the style of check dresses shown in collections from 2011 to 2014 and to extract main expressional words for the development of semantic differential scales of visual images according to the change in silhouette of block check dresses.
