  • We establish the existence of weak solutions in an infinite subsonic channel in the self-similar plane to the two-dimensional Burgers system. We consider a boundary value problem in a fixed domain such that a part of the domain is degenerate, and the system becomes a second order elliptic equation in the channel. The problem is motivated by the study of the weak shock reflection problem and 2-D Riemann problems. The two-dimensional Burgers system is obtained through an asymptotic reduction of the 2-D full Euler equations to study weak shock reflection by a ramp.

  • This paper is mainly concerned with the formation of delta standing wave for the scalar conservation law with a linear flux function involving discontinuous coefficients by using the self-similar viscosity vanishing method. More precisely, we use the self-similar viscosity to smooth out the discontinuous coefficient such that the existence of approximate viscous solutions to the delta standing wave for the Riemann problem is established and then the convergence to the delta standing wave solution is also obtained when the viscosity parameter tends to zero. In addition, the Riemann problem is also solved with the standard method and the instability of Riemann solutions with respect to the specific small perturbation of initial data is pointed out in some particular situations.

  • Let K be a loosely self-similar set. Then a-dimensional packing measure of K is the same as that of a Borel subset K( $r_1^{\alpha}$ㆍㆍㆍ$r_{m}$ $^{\alpha}$/) of K. And packing dimension of K is equal to that of K\K( $r_1^{\alpha}$ㆍㆍㆍ $r_{m}$ $^{\alpha}$/) and K( $r_1^{\alpha}$ㆍㆍㆍ $r_{m}$ $^{\alpha}$/).X> $^{\alpha}$/)).

  • Aerodynamic flow control phenomena were investigated with a low-current DC surface discharge plasma actuator. The plasma actuator was found to operate in three different discharge modes with similar discharge currents of about 1 mA or less. Stable continuous DC discharge without audible noise was obtained at higher ballast resistances and lower discharge currents. However, even with continuous DC power input, a low-frequency self-pulsed discharge was obtained at lower ballast resistances, and a high-frequency self-pulsed discharge was obtained at higher set-point currents and higher ballast resistances, both with audible noise. The Schlieren image reveals that the low-frequency self-pulsed mode produces a synthetic jet-like flow implying that a gas heating effect plays a role, even though the discharge current is small. The high-frequency self-pulsed mode produces pulsed jets in a tangent direction, and the continuous DC mode produces a steady straight pressure wave. Particle image velocimetry (PIV) images reveal that the induced flow field by the low-frequency self-pulsed mode has flow propagating in the radial direction and centered between the electrodes. The high-frequency self-pulsed mode and continuous DC mode produce flow from the anode to the cathode. The perturbed region downstream of the cathode is larger in the high-frequency self-pulsed mode with similar maximum speeds.

  • This study introduces an undefined self-imaging phenomenon, called here the pseudo-self-imaging phenomenon. The relative phases of the guided modes were used to discover how the pseudo-self-images are formed. The pseudo-self-image was found and measured experimentally. The experimental results showed that both the pseudo-self-image and the 0-dB self-image have similar intensity values and have opposite positions in the lateral direction.

  • Recent measurements of local-area and wide-area traffic have shown that network traffic exhibits at a wide range of scales-Self-similarity. Self-similarity is expressed by long term dependency, this is contradictory concept with Poisson model that have relativity short term dependency. Therefore, first of all for design and dimensioning of next generation communication network, traffic model that are reflected burstness and self-similarity is required. Here self-similarity can be characterized by Hurst parameter. In this paper, when different many data traffic being integrated under various environments is arrived to communication network, Hurst Parameter's change is analyzed and compared with simulation results.

  • There are many problems that must solve to construct next generation high-speed communication network. Among these, item that must consider basically is characteristics analysis of traffic that nows to network Traffic characteristics of many Internet services that is offered present have shown that network traffic exhibits at a wide range of scals-self-similarity. • Self diffusion coefficients of $^{67}$Co and impurity diffusion coefficients of $^{51}$Mn and $^{65}$Zn in single crystalline CoO have been measured by applying different radioactive isotopes simultaneously. To compare the residual activity method and the tracer sectioning method we analyzed our tracer diffusion experiments by using both methods simultaneously. According to our experimental results, the diffusion coefficients obtained from both methods are identical within experimental error, demonstrating the relibility of our experimental procedures. The diffusion coefficients of all the isotopes obtained during these test experiments for the methodology are similar in magnitude and show similar dependences on oxygen partial pressure. These first observations indicate that impurity diffusion of Mn and Zn occur via a vacancy mechanism as known for self diffusion of cobalt.

  • Feature-based similarity retrieval become an important research issue in image database systems. The features of image data are useful to discrimination of images. In this paper, we propose the highspeed k-Nearest Neighbor search algorithm based on Self-Organizing Maps. Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) provides a mapping from high dimensional feature vectors onto a two-dimensional space. The mapping preserves the topology of the feature vectors. The map is called topological feature map. A topological feature map preserves the mutual relations (similarity) in feature spaces of input data. and clusters mutually similar feature vectors in a neighboring nodes. Each node of the topological feature map holds a node vector and similar images that is closest to each node vector. In topological feature map, there are empty nodes in which no image is classified. We experiment on the performance of our algorithm using color feature vectors extracted from images. Promising results have been obtained in experiments.

  • Special structure of flow networks can reduce the order of the relative existent algorithms. In this paper a special structure of flow network called self-similar f1ow networks is introduced, After describing such networks an efficient algorithm for finding maximum flow is presented. It is shown that this algorithm runs in O(m) time.
