Mammography Screening Uptake among Female Health Care Workers in Primary Health Care Centers in Palestine - Motivators and Barriers

  • Background: Early detection remains the cornerstone of breast cancer control in terms of outcome and survival. Thus far the only breast cancer screening method proven effective is mammography. The awareness of female health care workers (HCW) about breast cancer prevention is of vital importance, as their beliefs and behavior may have a major impact on other women. This study was designed to assess mammography screening uptake among female healthcare workers at primary healthcare centers, and to identify the primary motivators and barriers that affect uptake results. Materials and Methods: A cross sectional study design was used to assess mammography screening by 299 female healthcare workers who completed a self-administered questionnaire that assessed demographics, screening uptake, motivators and barriers. Results: The mean age was 46 years (within age of risk). The majority (95.1%) demonstrated adequate knowledge about breast cancer and mammography screening and 50% of the participants reported having at least one mammogram; however only 21% of them had regularly scheduled mammograms. The most frequent reported motivator was the perceived benefit that early detection of breast cancer is important for its management (89.6%), followed by the belief that mammography can detect breast cancer before its symptoms appear (84.4%). On the other hand, the most frequent barrier reported was being busy (46.7%), followed by the lack of perceived susceptibility (41.5%). Conclusions: Mammography screening was found to be sub-optimal in a population of HCW's with 50 % stating that they received a mammogram at least once, and a minority reported regular screening. There is a pressing need for educational programs aimed at removing the barriers that limit compliance with recommendations for mammography screening, and to emphasize the importance of early detection in breast cancer treatment. Ensuring the availability and accessibility of screening services, particularly for healthcare workers within their work settings are other important factors that would improve the acceptance and compliance for mammography screening programs.

보육교사의 구강보건교육경험 인지도에 따른 구강보건지식의 관련성 (The Relationship between Oral Health Knowledge and Its Education Recognizance of Childcare Teacher)

  • 보육교사들의 구강보건경험과 인지도 및 필요성에 따라 구강보건지식정도를 파악하고 관련성이 있는지 조사하고자, 경남지역에 소재한 37개 어린이집에 있는 보육교사 267명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 교육유무에 따른 구강보건지식을 살펴보면 교육경험이 있는 경우가 교육경험이 없는 경우보다 높게 나타났다. 교육장소별에 따른 구강보건지식을 살펴보면 보건소에서 가장 높게 나타났다. 교육필요 요구별에 따른 치주질환, 불소, 자일리톨의 구강보건지식에서 교육이 필요하다고 응답하였다. 교육참석 필요성에 따른 치주질환, 자일리톨의 구강보건지식에서 교육에 참석한다고 응답한 경우가 높게 나타났다. 교육의 필요성과 교육참석 필요성은 높은 상관관계(r=0.874)를 보였고, 치주질환 지식항목과 구강보건교육 참석도는 낮은 상관관계를 나타냈다(r=0.345). 보육교사의 구강보건교육경험과 인지도 및 필요성은 구강보건 지식에 관련성이 있었고, 아이들의 구강 보건을 효과적으로 관리하기 위해서는 보육교사에게 체계적이고 규칙적인 구강보건교육 프로그램이 필요할 것으로 사료되었다.

직장의 유무가 야간대학생의 식행동 및 영양섭취 상태에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Daytime Jobs on the Dietary Behaviors and Nutrient Intakes among Evening Class University Students)

  • This study was conducted among the university students to investigate the effects of working in an daytime and studying in an evening class on dietary behaviors and nutrient intakes. A 24-hour recall method was used along with food frequency questionnaires. The subjects were composed of three groups : 172 were in the daytime calss regular student group(RS), 178 were evening class students without a job(ESWOJ), and 140 were evening class students with a job(ESWJ). An average age of the ESWJ was 31 years old, which was 9 years older than the RS and 7 years older than the ESWOJ. The types of the residence were significantly different among the groups ; were seif-boarding 74% of the ESWJ stayed at home while 47% of the RS were self-boarding and 61% of the ESWOJ. The survey shows that while a great majority of the RS and ESWOJ has breakfast and supper at home, about 10% and 17% of the ESWJ ate breakfast and supper, respectively, at the cafeteria in their work place. The most frequently skipped meal was the breakfast in all groups. Approximately 9% of the ESWJ tended to skip the breakfast, while 27% of the RS and 33% of the ESWOJ did. It turns out that the mose common reason why ESWJ skipped meals was due to a lack of time. About 71% of the ESWJ ate out more than once a week compared to 57% and 62% of the RS and ESWOJ, respectively. Approximately 30% of the ESWJ spent less than 10 minutes at meal time, showing a hurried eating habit. The results show that the ESWJ tended to eat a variety of food s and eat less instant foods, but drink coffee more often compared to the other two groups. The results also show that in all groups, the intakes of energy, Ca, and vitamin A were lower than the Korean Recommended Daily Allowances(RDA). In addition to these nutrients, protein, vitamin B1, vitamin $B_2$, and niacin were also lower than the RDA in all make students, and Fe was lower than the RDA in all female students. Among the deficient nutrients, vitamin A showed the lowest % RDA : 48% in the male and 64% in the female students. The intakes of Ca, Fe, and niacin in the ESWJ were significantly greater than those in the RS and ESWOJ groups, and the vitamin C intake in the ESWJ was greater than that in the ESWOJ(p<0.01). In conclusion, university students in all three groups have a serious imbalance in the nutrient intakes, and the evening class students with a daytime job have unhealthy dietary behaviors in the light of high frequency of eating out and heavy coffee drinking, a rushed eating pattern, and therefore showing a strong need of proper nutritional education for them.

3D 프린터를 활용한 융합인재교육 프로그램 개발 및 효과성과 만족도 분석 (An Instructional Design of STEAM Programs using 3D Printer and Analysis of its Effectiveness and Satisfaction)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 3D 프린터를 활용한 융합인재교육 프로그램을 개발하고 효과성과 만족도를 검증하여 시사점을 도출하고 향후 발전방향을 제시하는 것이다. 3D 프린터를 활용한 차시대체형 융합인재교육 프로그램을 개발하기 위하여 '상황 제시', '창의적 설계', '감성적 체험'의 학습준거틀을 활용하였고, 초등학교 3~4학년군 및 5~6학년군으로 구분하여 STEAM 프로그램을 개발하였다. 실험 적용 결과를 살펴보면 효과성에 대해 '흥미', '배려와 소통', '자기주도적 학습', '이공계 진로 선택'과 관련하여 통계적으로 유의미한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 학습자의 만족도를 설문 및 분석한 결과 학생들은 대체로 흥미있다는 응답을 제시하였으며, 기존 수업과 비교하였을 때 여러 과목을 관련지어 배울 수 있고, 만들기와 체험 활동이 많다는 점을 응답하였다.

의료정보 보호행동 실천에 관한 연구 - 병원행정관리자와 작업치료사를 비교 - (A Study on Practice of Protective Actions for Medical Information - A comparison between hospital administrators and occupational therapists -)

  • 본 연구는 환자 간접 접촉군인 병원행정관리자와 환자 직접 접촉군인 작업치료사의 환자 의료정보 보호행동 실천도를 알아보기 위해 시도되었다. 담당직무별로 비교해 보았을 때는 환자의료정보 보호 관리 감독에 대한 정기적인 교육은 병원행정관리자($3.16{\pm}1.037$)보다는 작업치료사($3.17{\pm}1.129$)가 잘 받고 있었음에도 불구하고, 환자 직접 접촉군인 작업치료사($3.52{\pm}.809$)가 환자 간접 접촉군인 병원행정관리자($3.92{\pm}.724$)보다 의료정보 보호행동 실천도는 낮게 나타났다. 작업치료사는 환자와 많은 대화 및 소통을 하는 동안 항상 의료정보 누설의 위험성에 노출되어 있으면서도, 대부분의 항목에서 의료정보 보호에 관한 관심이 비교적 적고 그 내용에 대해 거의 인지하지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 각 직업군별 맞춤형 교육시스템을 마련하고, 의료정보 보호에 관한 질 관리 활동을 정기적으로 실행하면서 지속적인 홍보와 교육을 하고, 본인들의 수준을 점검하고, 그러한 활동을 통하여 의료정보 보호에 관한 인식을 고취 시킬 필요가 있다고 제언하는 바이다.

중학생의 식습관, 영양지식 조사 및 기술.가정 교과의 식생활 교육 만족도에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Eating Behaviour and Nutrition Knowledge of Middle School Students and Satisfaction of Dietary life Instruction in Technology.Home Economics Subject)

  • 본 연구는 대구 경북의 6개 중학교에 재학 중인 1, 2, 3학년 남녀 493명을 대상으로 식생활 수업에 관한 내용, 영양지식, 식습관 및 식태도, 식생활의 실제적인 도움정도에 관한 내용을 설문조사를 통해 실시되었다. 기술 가정교과의 식생활영역 수업 만족도는 보통이 43.5%로 가장 많았고 수업에 만족하지 않는 이유로는 지루한 강의식 수업이어서가 10.1%로 가장 높았다. 가장 많이 원하는 수업형태는 실험 실습수업이었고(75.4%), 조리실습이 가장 관심이 많았으며(53.0%), 가정과의 식생활 교육이 실제 생활에 도움을 주는 정도는 3.30/5점(66/100점)으로 낮은 편이었다. 영양지식 총점은 7.29/12점(60.75/100점)이었으며, 여학생점수와 3학년의 점수가 유의적으로 높았다(p<0.01). 식습관 및 식태도의 점수는 3.55/5점(71/100점)으로 남학생보다 여학생의 점수가 높았고, 1학년의 식습관점수가 가장 높고, 3학년의 점수가 가장 낮았다. 열량과 비만에 관한 영양지식 점수와 식습관 및 식태도 영역에서 싱겁게 먹기, 규칙적인 식사, 정상체중 유지, 인스턴트 및 패스트푸드 자주 먹지 않기, 환경을 생각한 식생활 항목의 점수가 낮게 조사되었다. 따라서 식생활 교육은 중학생의 성장과 바람직한 식습관 형성을 유도하고, 기술 가정교과에 대한 흥미를 높이기 위해 강의식 중심의 수업진행보다는 실험과 실습을 중심으로 하여 건전한 식습관 및 인성을 형성시켜 줄 수 있는 교육이 되어야 할 것이다. 또한 가정과교육의 궁극적인 목표를 달성할 수 있도록 가정과의 다른 영역 및 타 교과와의 융합교육을 통해 실생활에 적용, 응용할 수 있는 능력과 창의적인 사고 문제해결 능력을 길러줄 수 있는 적극적인 교육이 되어야 할 것이다.

산업장 근로자의 건강상태와 건강습관의 관련요인분석 (The Relationships between Health Status and Health Practices among Industrial Workers)

  • This study attempted to analyze the health habits affecting health status of industrial workers. Data was collected from 57 industries of 900 workers at Inchon. The research has been carried out through self-administered questionnaire and from the analysis of the health examination records and the results were as follows: 1. Among 861 respondents, men were 81.2%, women were 18.8%, 42, 6% were of the 30-40 age group, the married were 65.7%, the single were 32.5%, the high school graduates were 62.4% and 37.3% were of people who worked between 1 and 5 years. 2. As far as the seven health habits, current smokers were 54.9%, people who regularly exercise was 31.7%, 7-8 hour of sleep, on the average were 74.0%, people eating breakfast nearly every day were 8.0%, and people eating between meals almost every day were 54.2%. Heavy drinkers who drink 3-4 times or more per week were 13.2%, 1-2 times per week were 26.8% and the obese were 4.6%, 3. Health status of A and B, estimated by doctors in the health examination were 81.7% and C, D1, D2, the unhealthy were 18.3%. Men were reported more than women in unhealthy groups and the results regarding health status reflect gender, educational level and age, That is to say that, lower educational level group and over 30 years of age group perceive their health to be worse than the higher educational level and under 30 age group, And these differences were statistically significant. 4. The relationship between health habits and health status, expressed in terms of the odds ratio. Current smokers had a consistently worse health status than a nonsmokers with a 1.36 odds ratio. The workers who reported eating breakfast rarely or never were more associated with the unhealthy group than the regular breakfast eating group with a 2.48 odds ratio. One or more drink per week had a worse health status than a never or a little drinker with a 1.42 odds ratio. 5, The Health habits score and duration of work were selected as significant factors influencing health status based on logistic analysis. According to the results of this model, the odds ratio of good health status was 2.06 for good health habit score, 1.55 for population who worked seven years or more duration of work. As we have seen, good practices were found to be associated with better health and the effect of the health habits was cummulative;those who followed 6-7 health habits were in better health, even though they were older than those who failed to do so. Therefore, in order to provide the health promotion of workers it is necessary to establish a health management plan for an effective health education and health service. If we use this type of study as a prospective study design, we can get a precise basic data for health promotion and a management plan for industrial workers.

체형 불만족군과 만족군 여고생의 체중조절 실태와 식행동의 차이 (Difference in Weight Control Status and Eating Behavior between Dissatisfied and Satisfied Female High School Students Regarding Their Own Body Shape)

  • This study aimed to find the differences in weight control status and eating behavior of satisfied and dissatisfied female high school students regarding their own body shape. The participants consisted of 238 students at two female high schools in Nonsan-si, Chungnam-do in May of 2008. Self-assessment evaluated present body shape and ideal body shape they would like to have by providing silhouette drawings. The subjects were divided into two groups, 'satisfied' and 'dissatisfied', according to the differences between present body shape and ideal body shape. In the distribution of subjects according to body mass index, 100% of overweight, 97.0% of normal weight and 48.7% of underweight belonged to the dissatisfied group. There were significant differences in weight control and eating behavior between dissatisfied and satisfied groups in terms of frequency and reasons of conducting weight control behavior, body weight return after weight reduction, skipping breakfast and consuming fast food. The satisfied group was two times more likely to not conduct weight control behaviors compared to the dissatisfied group. The main reason for trying to control weight differed according to the group; the reason was feeling fat in the dissatisfied group and desiring to be healthy in the satisfied group. The percentage of subjects that returned to their original weights after weight reduction was 5 times higher in the dissatisfied group. The percentages of subjects that regularly skip breakfast and consume fast food were both higher in the dissatisfied group than in the satisfied group. The dissatisfied group responded 'eating alone' more frequently among nine binge eating behaviors compared to the satisfied group. Both groups, however, did not show any difference in overeating of meals, eating speed, intake frequency of regular meals, food preference, preferred cooking method, carbonated beverage intake and snack eating behavior. In summary, the dissatisfied group tried more unnecessary body weight reduction and had poor eating behavior. Accordingly, to correct the biased perception of body shape by the majority of female high school students, the values of our society should change toward the pursuit of beauty of health.

여자 대학생의 비만도에 따른 체중 조절 인식, 생활 습관 및 식습관 연구 (Perception of Body Weight Control, Life Styles, and Dietary Habits according to the Obesity Index(OI) of Female College Students)

  • This study aims at examining perception of body weight control and lifestyles and food habits of under-weight, normal-weight and over-weight female college students. The data analysis were conducted by a body fat analyzer and questionnaires. The subjects were 368 female college students divided into three groups: the under-weight(UW), the normal-weight(NW), and the over-weight(OW), according to the guidelines of the Korean Society for the Study of Obesity(2000). Among the subjects, 18.2% were under-weight, 63.6% normal-weight, and 18.2% over-weight. Mean of body weights were 45.4kg, 53.3kg, and 63.7kg, and BMIs were $17.5kg/m^2$, $20.5kg/m^2$ and $24.6kg/m^2$ in the UW, NW, and OW groups, respectively. 'Self assessment of body weight' was significant at the level of p<0.001 according to the Obesity Index. Of the UW group, 41.8% considered their weight to be normal and 4.5% believed they are over-weight. In the NW group, 43.2% thought they are over-weight, 1.5% believed they are under-weight. 57.1 % of the UW group and 98.6% of the NW group had ever tried to reduce their weight. Their 'exercise frequency and exercise time' were not significant by the 01. 'Regularity in the daily life' of the subjects was significant at the level of p<0.05. 43.3 % of the OW group answered that they don't live regular daily lives. 'Sleeping time' of the subjects was significant at the level of p<0.05 by the 01. 41.8% of the OW group reported that they sleep 'between 7 and 8 hours a day' which was the highest rate among the three groups. 'Frequency of meals per day' was not significant by the OI. 'The speed of eating meals' was significant at p<0.01, 23.9% of the UW group, 31.2% of NW group, and 38.8% of OW group reported that they have meals 'in a very fast speed'. Concludingly, most of female college students conceive themselves as having inappropriate body image, which means that they need to be given additional education about nutrition and diet.

경남지역 일부 산업간호사의 업무수행에 관한 연구 (Study on activities of some occupational health nurses in Kyungnam area)

  • Authors purposed to observe activities of occupational health nurses and it's related factors, and to suggest the way that induct better occupational health nurses' activities with questionaire to 87 occupational health nurses who individually work as health manager in the plant. The questionaire included type of plant and number of workers, general characteristics, work conditions, activities, etc. Major findings are as follows. 1. 82.8% of occupational health nurses were third decade. 93.1% graduated junior college or college. And 82.8% were not married. 2. General work conditions: 40.2% were belonged to safety-health section, 98.85% were mere clerks. 60.9% worked less than weekly 44 hours, and an annual salary of 50.6 % was between 10 million and 14 million won. 3. Work condition related to health manager work: there was separated health care room in 94.3%, working period as health manager(occupational health nurse) was less than 5 years in 70.1%, 49.4% had the out-of-health manager work. In 87.4%, occupational physician was appointed, only 6.9% of them were full time, 52.9% of them worked little in the plants. The problems related to workers' health were discussed with industrial nurses in 88.5%. 4. Attitude for their work: 88.5% were thought that their work is important for workers' health care, 57.5% satisfied to work as health manager. In 51.7%, motive to being industrial nurse were the appropriate aptitude. 5. Activities: General medical care in 100% were carried out, in 97.7% works related to general health examination, in 100% works related to special health examination were carried. But works related to use of protective apparatus were carried out in 20.8%. 6. Factors related to level of activities: In cases who solved the health related problems by themselves, the level of activites was significantly higher than in others. In cases there were full time occupational physician, the level of activities was significantly lower. 7. Occupational health nurse's needs: 100% wanted regular education, 89.7% wanted the qualifying examination. As the results, author suggests that the right of self-control is given to occupational health nurses and the work of occupational physician is clearly defined for the induction of the better activities of occupational health nurses.
