Recently, the educational facilities were 45% among total damaged facilities from the Po-Hang earthquake. Consequently, the seismic reinforcement of existing educational facilities were ended up attracting people's interesting. However, research is insufficient to consider that how far technology has been developed. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the level of domestic guideline research by comparing to foreign guidelines in regard to seismic reinforcement methods applicable to existing educational facilities. To achieve the objective, first, the current status of seismic reinforcement projects in domestic educational facilities was analyzed. Second, the domestic and foreign seismic reinforcement methods guidelines for structural, non-structural was compared. Third, the improvement directions for future guidelines were suggested. As a results, the improvement directions of domestic seismic reinforcement methods guidelines were proposed. First, the structural seismic reinforcement strategy needs to be segmented. Second, it is necessary to analyze about non-structural guidelines based on additional cases. In the future, this study can be used as a basic material for developing seismic reinforcement methods guidelines in domestic existing educational facilities.
In this study, a seismic reinforcement method was studied to improve the seismic performance of aged bridges. The construction method developed in this study is a compression-only bridge seismic reinforcement method, and has excellent economic feasibility and workability compared to existing construction methods. In the case of aged bridges, there was an advantage that could compensate for the disadvantages that it was difficult to apply the existing reinforcement method. For the newly developed method, the effect of reinforcement was analyzed through resin analysis. As a result of the analysis, when the reinforcement was applied, the axial reinforcement effect was excellent, and the field applicability was excellent as it showed better results than the existing seismic isolation backing method.
This study investigates the seismic performance of solid reinforced concrete columns with triangular reinforcement details using nonlinear seismic analysis. The developed reinforcement details are economically feasible and rational, and facilitate shorter construction periods. By using a sophisticated nonlinear finite element analysis program, the accuracy and objectivity of the assessment process can be enhanced. Solution of the equations of motion is obtained by numerical integration using Hilber-Hughes-Taylor (HHT) algorithm. The proposed numerical method gives a realistic prediction of seismic performance throughout the input ground motions for several column specimens. As a result, developed triangular reinforcement details were designed to be superior to the existing reinforcement details in terms of required performance.
Earthquakes of 5.8 and 5.4 Richter scale recently occurred one after another in Korea, changing the Korean peninsula from an earthquake safe zone but 'earthquake danger zone'. Therefore, seismic reinforcements must expand to include structures with low seismic resistance in order to prepare for earthquakes on a larger scale in the future. This study investigated the performances of various seismic reinforcement systems such as X-braced steel rod reinforcement, steel shear wall with circular opening reinforcement, and slit damper reinforcement using shaking table test and computational analyses of seismic data in order to establish a proper seismic reinforcement plan. These three seismic reinforcement systems could increase the stiffness and strength of existing structures and reduce maximum drift ratio in the event of an earthquake.
The public has grown more anxious towards domestic earthquakes that have been taking place since 2000, and regulations on seismic design has been strengthened. Out of 4,605 Air Force installations that require the application of seismic design, 2,982 remain unapplied. By taking budget issues and the time spent to implement seismic retrofit into account, this paper aims to list up seismic reinforcement priorities for airmen dormitories where they can potentially be most vulnerable to earthquakes. The priorities are extracted based on Data Envelope Analysis(DEA). To apply DEA, two sets of variables are set: seismic reinforcement costs as input variable: age of building, number of residents, and seismic load as output variables. At the end, suggestions are made for developing seismic reinforcement plans that can be applied to all Air Force installations.
The object of this thesis is an study on detailing for concrete reinforcement and analytical study for seismic behavior of underground reinforced concrete box structures using the established seismic analytical method. Using the established seismic analytical method that has been presented in various documents seismic behavior of buried reinforce concrete box structures is compared. From the comparsion, it is shown that feasibility and detailing detailng for concrete reinforcement and seismic method for seismic analysis of buried reinforced concrete box structures.
This study is conducted to verify the seismic reinforcement effects of internally inserted buckling-restrained braces supported laterally by buckling-restrained rings for the seismic reinforcement of existing reinforced concrete buildings with non-seismic details. First, to evaluate the performance of KDS, the hysteretic characteristics of buckling-restrained braces are verified, and it is discovered that they satisfy the conformance criteria of the displacement-dependent damping device. Three full-scale, two-story reinforced concrete framework specimens are prepared to verify the seismic reinforcement effects, and the proposed buckling-restrained braces are bolstered with single diagonal and V-shaped braces to be compared with non-reinforced specimens. By performing a comparison with non-reinforced specimens that present intensive shear cracks at the bottom of first-floor columns, it is revealed that the maximum load and energy dissipation of specimens reinforced with the proposed buckling restrained braces, in which the structural damage extends evenly throughout the system, are approximately 4 and 6.2 times higher, respectively, which proves the effectiveness of the proposed seismic reinforcement method.
This paper proposes an optimal design method of a seismic reinforcement system for the seismic performance of adjacent asymmetric-stiffness structures with viscous dampers. The first method considers plan asymmetry for efficient seismic reinforcement, and evaluates the seismic performance of optimal design applied to two cases of modeling: adjacent stiffness-asymmetric structures and adjacent stiffness-symmetric structures. The second method considers the response of asymmetric structures to derive the optimal objective function, and evaluates seismic efficiency of the objective function applied to two cases of responses: horizontal displacement and torsion. Numerical analyses are conducted on 7- and 10-story structures with a uni-asymmetric-stiffness plan using six cases of historic earthquakes, normalized to 0.4g. The results indicate that the seismic performance is excellent as modeled by adjacent asymmetric-stiffness structures and how much horizontal displacement is applied as the objective function.
Recently, the occurrence frequency of earthquake has increased in Korea, and the interests for seismic reinforcement of existing school buildings have been raised. To this end, the seismic performance evaluations for school buildings that did not accomplish the seismic design are required. In particular, this study checks the eigenvalue analysis, pushover curves, maximum base shears, performance points and story drift ratios, and then analyzes the seismic performance characteristics according to bracing configuration of steel frame system reinforcement. Also, this study presents the practical field application methods through the comparison of analysis results for the seismic performance characteristics.
