  • Let $D_0$, $D_1{\subset}\bar{R}^n$ be non-empty sets and let ${\Gamma}$ be the family of all closed curves which join $D_0$ to $D_1$. In this note, we introduce the concept of the mathematical conductance $C({\Gamma})$ of a curve family ${\Gamma}$ and examine some basic properties of mathematical conductance. And we obtain the inequalities in connection with capacity of condensers.

  • In this note, we introduce the concept of the extremal length of a curve family in the complex plane and apply the extremal length to the boundary behavior of analytic functions. We consider some geometric applications of extremal length and establish applications connected with the logarithmic capacity.

  • We introduce the extremal length and examine its properties. And we consider the geometric applications of extremal length to the boundary behavior of analytic functions, conformal mappings. We derive the theorem in connection with the capacity. This theorem applies the extremal length to the analytic function defined on the domain with a number of holes. And we obtain the theorems in connection with the pure geometric problems.

  • Even though the types of ramp facilities in Korea are not various like other countries operations in these sections are very important because ramp merging and /or diverging flow affects freeway overall sections. In this study existing methodologies especially the gap acceptance model and the regression model in USHCM are evaluated with our field data. By gap acceptance model the merging capacity is founded 2.360 pcph which is increased by 7% than the capacity of freeway basic section. And in comparison of actual lane 1 volume to the estimation volume by HCM model the model slightly overestimates the actual volue.

  • We consider the applications of extremal length to the boundary behavior of analytic functions and derive a theorem in connection with the capacity. This theorem applies the extremal length to the analytic functions defined on the domain with a number of holes. So it shows us the usefulness of the method of extremal length.

On the direct strength and effective yield strength method design of medium and high strength steel welded square section columns with slender plate elements

  • The ultimate carrying capacity of axially loaded welded square box section members made of medium and high strength steels (nominal yield stresses varying from 345 MPa to 460 MPa), with large width-to-thickness ratios ranging from 35 to 70, is analyzed by finite element method (FEM). At the same time, the numerical results are compared with the predicted results using Direct Strength Method (DSM), modified DSM and Effective Yield Strength Method (EYSM). It shows that curve a, rather than curve b recommended in Code for design of steel structures GB50017-2003, should be used to check the local-overall interaction buckling strength of welded square section columns fabricated from medium and high strength steels when using DSM, modified DSM and EYSM. Despite all this, EYSM is conservative. Compared to EYSM and modified DSM, DSM provides a better prediction of the ultimate capacities of welded square box compression members with large width-thickness ratios over a wide range of width-thickness ratios, slenderness ratios and steel grades. However, for high strength steels (nominal yield strength greater than 460 MPa), the numerical and existent experimental results indicate that DSM overestimates the load-carrying capacities of the columns with width-thickness ratio smaller than 45 and slenderness ratio less than 80. Further, for the purpose of making it suitable for a wider scope, DSM has been modified (called proposed modified DSM). The proposed modified DSM is in excellent agreement with the numerical and existing experimental results.

  • 본 논문은 콘크리트 충전 원형 및 각형 합성 강관을 기둥부재로서의 적합성 및 적용성을 위한 연구로 두개의 강관을 합성한 콘크리트 충전 강관 기둥의 축압축 좌굴내력 및 변형형상에 대한 실험적 연구이다. 강관 기둥에 대한 연구는 콘크리트 충전 원형 강관 기둥, 콘크리트 충전 각형 강관 기둥, 콘크리트 충전 합성 강관 기둥으로 분류하여 실험을 수행하였다.

비조밀단면을 가진 SC 합성 기둥의 휨-압축 내력에 관한 실험 연구 (Experiment Study on the Flexural-Axial Capacity of Steel-Concrete Composite Column composed of Non-Compact Section)

  • 철골-콘크리트 합성 기둥(이하 SC 합성 기둥)은 철골 플랜지 사이를 연결재로 용접하고, 이런 플랜지 사이에 콘크리트를 채워 시공성과 경제성을 얻을 수 있는 새로운 합성 부재이다. 이 연구의 전단계로서 비조밀단면을 사용한 SC 합성 기둥의 축력 실험을 통해 구조 내력이 우수하다는 것을 입증하였으나, 기둥의 특성상 축력과 휨을 동시에 받고 있기 때문에 후속 실험 연구가 필요하게 되었다. 따라서 일정 축력을 받는 비조밀단면을 가진 SC 합성 기둥의 휨 성능을 강축 및 약축 방향으로 실험을 실시하여 각국 기준식과 비교하여 분석하였다. 실험 결과 모든 방향에 대해서 각국 기준식에서 제시하고 있는 축력-휨 모멘트 내력식을 만족하는 결과를 보이고 있었다. 특히 AISC-LRFD 기준식은 합성 기둥의 내력을 지나치게 안전측으로 고려하고 있다. 또한 추후 SC 합성 기둥의 축력-휨 모멘트 내력식은 EC4 기준식으로 산정하는 것이 철골과 콘크리트의 적합 조건을 고려하지 않은 일본 기준식과 약축 방향 내력을 산정하기 어려운 ACI 기준식보다는 바람직하다.
