A Questionnaire Survey on Safety Consciousness of Seafares' (선박근로자의 안전의식수준 실태조사)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate safety consciousness of seafares'. The subjects were 437 seafaes' who took a safety education course in Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology. This questionnaire was focused on finding the basic data for prevention of industrial accidents, and getting the public opinions and proposals of seafares'. The results obtained by this study are as follows : The average score of safety consciousness for seafares' were 68.82. Current position level of education navigation area classification of ships, ship size, ship age showed significant difference in statistics(p<0.01). Based on these results, this research pointed out the need to review the training manual, development of educational programs, improvement of facilities to improve safety education of ship, etc.

  • The purpose of this study was to find out knowledge, attitudes and practice-behaviors related Health Management of Seafares'. The subjects of this study were 516 Seafares' who took education in Korea Institude of Maritime and Fisheries Technology. this questionnaire was focused on finding the basic data for health management of Seafares'. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS package. The results were as follows: 1) The higher age, married life, religious belief, duty position, and embarkation carrer are, the higher knowledge-degree. And the higher age, married life, religious belief, embarkation carre and duty time are, the higher attitude-degree and practice -degree(p < 0.05).

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate seafarers' attitude to casualty related safety onboard the ship. The subjects were 437 seafares' who took a safety education course in Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology. This questionnaire was focused on finding the basic data for prevention of industrial accidents, and getting the public opinions and proposals of seafares'. The results obtained by this study are as follows : The average score of safety level for seafares' were 68.82. Current position, level of education, navigation area, classification of ships, ship size, ship age showed significant difference in statistics(p<0.01). A Questionnaire Survey on Disease and Medical Management of Seafares' (상선승무원들의 상병 및 의료관리 실태 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to find of morbidity rate and pattern of disease and affect of variables related disease and medical management of seafares' The subjects this study were 1049 seafares' who took education in Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology. This questionnaire was focused on finding the basic data for prevention of disease and promotion health for the seafares' The collected data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, Chi-square, cross tab, linear regression by SPSS 10.1 package. The result of this study are as follow. 1)The morbidity rate within recent 12 months was 69.0%. 2)there were significant differences of occurred disease in age(p<0.05), income(p<0.01), career of ship on board(p<0.01), rank(p<0.01), perceived health status(p<0.01), worry of health(p<0.01), fatigue symptoms(0.01), satisfy of job(p<0.05), rest time(p<0.05) 3) Considering disease unable to work more than 4 hour, the number of those who had oral disease 7.3%> tinea 6.6%> gastric ulcer 6.4, and musculoskeletal disease group were 20.9%, which revealed the highest rate oral disease 13.6%> skin disease> 12.4%, digestive disease> 12.1%. 4) As refer to medical management, The pain above 31days 35.7%, hospitalization and treatment below 7days were each 50.2%, 42.8%, medical service were doctor's office 27.9, which revealed the highest rate.

A Survey on the Prevalence of Cumulative Trauma Disorders and Related Factors among Seafares (선원들의 누적외상성질환 발생과 관련요인)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for the prevention and management of Cumulative Trauma Disorders in Korea seamen. 569 seamen's questionnaire had been acquired at Korea Marine Training and Research Institute. The prevalence in Cumulative Trauma Disorders within recent 12 months was 68.5%. The more working hours(p<0.01), services on the vessel(p<0.01), and the less job satisfaction(p<0.05), the higher prevalence of Cumulative Trauma Disorders. The distribution of Cumulative Trauma Disorders by the part of the body was turned out as Back ; 43.6%, knee ; 23.9%, shoulder ; 19.3%. The officers had more frequency of symptom around the neck than the ratings(p<0.01) and the seamen who work at the engine room were more frequent in elbow than those at deck department(p<0.05). In the duration of pain, 55.4% were less than one week, 20.6% less than 30 days, and 24.0% 30 days and more. the cause of symptom was turned out as 34.5% by excessive hard work and 30.1 % was unknown.

  • It is one of the most important factors Seafarers Education Quality Assurance and management in Higher Maritime Education Institution. The educational process and result of Higher Maritime Educational Institution. The educational process and result of Higher Maritime Educational Institution should be evaluated according to the 1995 Amendments to the International Convention on Standards of Training Certification and Watchkddping for Seafares(STCW) 1978. Actuall above-mentioned evaluation is deemed to make foundation in order to enhance the efficiency of shipboard education by surveying the satisfaction of shipboard training for Marine Engineering part cadets by the group. In this paper we carried out the questionnaire survey to study stisfactory value and the reason of dissatisfaction of 89 cadets being trained on board the Training Ship in Maritime College of Korea Maritime University The results were calculated by frequency and percentage; the significance of difference among Department groups like Marine Engineering Maritime polic and Ship Operating Systems Engineering Engineering was analysed by $x^2$ inspection.
