  • The assessment of acrosomal status is important in evaluating the ability of sperm to fertilize the egg. The acrosomal status of sperm from 47 normal volunteers with proven fertility and 167 subfertile men with not to achieve pregnancy for at least 1 year were evaluated with Acrobeads test(FUSO Pharmaceutical Industries, Ltd, Japan) using immunobeads coated with MH61 monoclonal antibody, which is specific for acrosome-reacted sperm. The mean${\pm}$SD of acrobeads score in 47 volunteer group was $2.8{\pm}0.7$, of which 46(97.9%)cases were ${\geq}$ 2. The mean${\pm}$SD of acrobeads score in 167 subfertile group was $1.7{\pm}0.8$, of which 73(79.3%)cases were ${\leq}$ 1. The aerobe ads score in subfertile group were significantly lower(r=0.294, p<0.05) than those in volunteer group. In subfertile group, acrobeads score were well correlated with the sperm density and motility(r=0.275, r=0.281, p<0.01), but not with semen volume(r=0.16) and serum hormone level(FSH r=0.084, LH r=0.036, testosterone r=0.058, prolactin r=0.006 and estradiol r=0.060)(p>0.05). Of 63 subfertile cases with normozoospermia, 22(34.9%)cases showed 0 or 1 of acrobeads score, which means to accompany with a functional defect in spite of normal morphology. As a results, Acrobeads test is not only a technically simple sensitive procedure with good reproducibility in evaluating the sperm fertilizing capacity but also an useful in the evaluation of effectiveness in the treatment of infertility and the separation of acrosome-reacted sperm in the assisted reproductive technique.

  • Objectives This study aimed to investigate the relationship between depressive and anxiety symptoms and tardive dyskinesia (TD) and reveal the association of cognitive function and TD in patients with schizophrenia. Methods We recruited 30 schizophrenia patients with TD and 31 without TD from a national mental hospital in South Korea. To assess depressive and anxiety symptoms, the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) were conducted. Using the five-factor structure of the BDI-II and BAI, somatic anxiety, cognitive depression, somatic depression, subjective anxiety, and autonomic anxiety were assessed. Computerized neurocognitive function test (CNT) was performed to assess levels of cognitive functions. We compared the clinical characteristics, levels of cognitive functions, and depressive and anxiety symptoms between schizophrenia patients with TD and without TD. Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, independent t-test and Mann Whitney U test were conducted to compare two groups. Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to evaluate relationships among the abnormal involuntary movement scale (AIMS), BDI-II, BAI, somatic anxiety, cognitive depression, somatic depression, subjective anxiety, and autonomic anxiety. Results The subjects with TD had significantly lower score on the cognitive depression than those without TD (t = -2.087, p = 0.041). There were significant correlations between the AIMS score and the BDI-II score (r = -0.386, p = 0.035) and between the AIMS score and cognitive depression score (r = - 0.385, p = 0.035). Conclusions Our findings suggest the inverse relationship between severities in TD and depression and support the assumption that there is an inverse relationship between the pathophysiology of TD and depression.

  • Purpose: This study is designed to test the effects of a full body massage on Apgar score, postpartum mother's childbirth experience, and mother-infant attachment for primipara during labor. Method: Data were collected using a quasi-experiment method (nonequivalent control group, pre-post test design) from November 1, 2001 to July 31, 2002. The subjects for this experiment consist of 28 women in the experimental group and 29 in the control group, out of 57 primipara hospitalized at the U OB & GYN hospital in Inchon. A 20 minute full body massage was given to the experimental group on each of three delivery phases (latent, active, and transition), and a conventional delivery care to the control group. The experimental tools for the study are Apgar score scale developed by Apgar(1958), postpartum mother's childbirth experience scale developed by Marut and Mercer(1979), and mother-infant attachment scale developed by Cropley et al(1981). The data collected were analyzed using t-test, χ2 test, and ANCOVA on the SPSS program. Result: The results of the experiment are as follows: One minute(t=6.756, p=.000; F=9.181, p=.004), and five minute(t=6.129, p=.000; F=7.918, p=.007) Apgar score are increased significantly. Postpartum mother's childbirth experience is significantly increased(t=11.691, p=.000; F=11.741, p=.001). Verbal touch score(t=5.256, p=.000; F=7.169, p=.010), skin touch score(t=11.332, p=.000; F=27.073, p=.000), and total score(t=12.105, p=.000; F=30.104, p=.000) of postpartum mother's childbirth experience are significantly increased, but not for eye touch score(t=3.236, p=.002; F=.800, p=.375). Conclusion: This study shows that a full body massage has a significant positive effect on Apgar score, postpartum mother's childbirth experience. and mother-infant attachment. Therefore, it is suggested that the full body massage might be used clinically to help primipara during labor.

  • This study was conducted to investigate whether a computer information offered in advance of the test would decrease anxiety degree in coronary angiogram subjects. The study design was a nonequivalent control group, none-synchronized design. The subjects of study were 53 patients who were admitted at C hospital in K city for coronary angiogram. The 53 subjects were assigned to experimental(25) and control(28) groups. The computer information set up by researcher was used as the experimental treatment and 10 minutes long. Spielberger's state anxiety scale translated by Kim and Shin(1978) and sphygmomanometer were used for data collection. The data were collected from July 1, 2000 to March 31, 2001, and analyzed by chi-square, paried t-test, t-test, ANCOVA, and Pearson's Correlation Coefficients using SPSS/PC+. The results of this study were summarized as follows : 1. The first hypothesis that 'post-test state anxiety score will be lower than pre-test state anxiety score in experimental group' was supported(t=2.40, p=.020). 2. The second hypothesis that 'post-test systole will be lower than pre-test systole in experimental group' was not supported(t=-.30, p=.765). 3. The third hypothesis that 'post-test Diastole will be lower than pre-test diastole in experimental group' was not supported'(t=-1.42, p=.161). 4. The fifth hypothesis that 'the experimental group who is given the computer information will be lower in state anxiety score than the control group who is not given the computer information' was supported(F=9.17, p=.004). 5. The sixth hypothesis that 'the experimental group who is given the computer information will be lower in systole than the control group who is not given the computer information' was supported (F=7.16, p=.010). 6. The seventh hypothesis that 'the experimental group who is given the computer information will be lower in diastole than the control group who is not given the computer information' was not supported'(F=.55, p=.462). 7. The eleventh hypothesis that 'the lower the post-test state anxiety, the lower the uneasiness score during the test' was not supported(r=-.013, p=.926). 8. The eighth hypothesis that 'the lower the post-test state anxiety, the lower the nervousness score during the test' was supported(r=.326, p=.017).

  • The purpose of this study was to clarify the level of knowledge and the attitude about AIDS. according to high school students demographics. and the AIDS education effects in a week or 6 months. The data were surveyed from 74 bounding for university high school students and 98 vocational high school students from two counties in Chonnam. The data were collected from November 5. 1999 to May 24. 2000. using a 50-item Questionnaire. and analyzed by SPSS PC+ program for t-test. ANOVA, Repeated measure ANOVA, Duncan test. $x^2-test$ and pearson correlation coefficients. The result of study summarized as follows : 1. The knowledge score for AIDS was significantly higher in the group bounding for university. in the second grade group and the group who have drunken experience. The positive attitude score for AIDS was significantly higher in the group who have smoked experience. 2. After 1 week of AIDS education. the knowledge score for AIDS(15.02 points) was significantly higher than the one before the education(10.85 points) but after 6 months of AIDS education. the knowledge score for AIDS(12.30 points) was significantly lower than in a week(F=55.49. p=.000). 3. After 1 week of AIDS education. the positive attitude score for AIDS(3.54 points) was significantly higher than the one before the education(3.35 points) and after 6 months of AIDS education. the positive attitude score for AIDS was same the one in a week(F=7.85. p=.000). 4. We could find the significant correlation between the knowledge and the attitude for AIDS just only in a week(r=.249. p=.001). In conclusion. the knowledge score for AIDS had increased in a week of education on AIDS but it had decreased as time goes by since education. The increased positive attitude for AIDS in a week has maintained the same as time goes by since education. Therefore. It should be needed re-education on AIDS to students at proper time in order to get the aim of AIDS education. We have to develop variety education methods for educational effects. It should be included comprehensive social aspect such as a question of personal rights to increase the positive attitude for AIDS.

  • When heteroscedasticity occurs in random effects linear model, the error variance may depend on the values of one or more of the explanatory variables or on other relevant quantities such as time or spatial ordering. In this paper we derive a score test as a diagnostic tool for detecting non-constant error variance in random effefts linear model based on the model expansion on error variance. This score test is compared to loglikelihood ratio test.

  • In this paper, we formulate multivariate one-sided alternatives and propose a class of nonparametric tests for possibly right censored data. We obtain the asymptotic tail probability (or p-value) by showing that our proposed test statistics have asymptotically multivariate normal distributions. Also, we illustrate our procedure with an example and compare it with other procedures in terms of empirical powers for the bivariate case. Finally, we discuss some properties of our test.
