  • To date, the majority of biosensor technologies use binding components such as enzymes antibodies, nucleic acids and protein ligands. In contrast, the goal underlying the use of cells and tissues of animals and plants for a sensor system is to obtain systems capable of extracting information based on the biological activity, mechanisms of action and consequences of exposure to a chemical or biological agent of interest. These systems enable the interrogation of more complex biological response and offer the potential to gather higher information content from measuring physiologic and metabolic response. In these articles, same of the recent trends and applications of microbial biosensors in environmental monitoring and for use in food and fermentations have been reviewed. This endeavor presents many technological challenges to fabricate new microbial biosensors for other scientific field.

  • The pressure to develop new agricultural technologies will be roughly proportional to the rate of depletion of natural resources employed in agriculture. Of these resources, land, water and gentic resources are critical. The development of agriculture is associated with a scientific and technological establishment, of remarkable capability ; responding rapidly to many problems encountered by the agricultural production. These advantages are also coupled with constraints. Agricultural systems are concerned with the efficient conversion of resources into products that are wanted by the producer or someone else who is prepared to pay for them. They are based on biological processes, but they are operated by the people for a multiplicity of purposes. Study of agricultural systems is aimed at helping in the operation of systems, their repair or their improvement. The future concerns of agriculture will center on (1) increasing and safeguarding the supplies of productive inputs to agriculture, (2) improving the efficiency with which these inputs are used in food production, (3) developing new sources of basic food materials, and (4) coping with the external costs that tend to appear in intensive, mechanized agriculture.

  • Proteomics has recently received intense scientific interest after the completion of the Human Genome Project, because this genome-based high technology allows to search new drug targets or diagnostic markers. Many proteome projects including Human plasma proteome projects (HPPP), Human liver proteome projects (HLPP), Human brain proteome projects (HBPP), and Mouse and Rat Proteome Project (MRPP) have been carried out and proteomic analytical techniques have been developed in second dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) and LC/MS system. This powerful method has been applied in toxicology producing a new term "Toxicoproteomics". In this review, recent proteome projects, proteomic technologies, and toxicoproteomics will be discussed.

  • Meteorological data contains observation and numerical weather prediction model output data. The computerized analysis and visualization of meteorological data often requires very high computing capability due to the large size and complex structure of the data. Because the meteorological data is frequently formed in multi-variables, 3-dimensional and time-series form, it is very important to visualize and analyze the data in 3D spatial domain in order to get more understanding about the meteorological phenomena. In this research, we developed interactive 3-dimensional visualization techniques for visualizing meteorological data on a PC environment such as volume rendering, iso-surface rendering or stream line. The visualization techniques developed in this research are expected to be effectively used as basic technologies not only for deeper understanding and more exact prediction about meteorological environments but also for scientific and spatial data visualization research in any field from which three dimensional data comes out such as oceanography, earth science, and aeronautical engineering.

  • Based on classification systems of power and IT standard dictionaries, scientific and technological standard, SPARK, power IT fields of IEC and organization units of corporations, we propose a new classification system for the standardization of power of terminologies. The classification system consists of a hierarchical structure with general classification, application fields and specific technologies while keeping the conventional matrix-type classification system. Interpretation work of the power of terminologies confirms that the proposed classification system is efficient.

  • The estimated emissions from proposed four ESTs for each measurement period were compared with the estimated emissions from baseline farms, after the later are adjusted for the average environmental parameters (lagoon temperature and air temperature) observed at the EST sites. The ESTs at Barham Farm and Grinnell's Laboratory were more effective in reducing the ammonia emission during one of the two sampling periods. However, based on the current research results and analysis, and available information in the scientific literature, the evaluated alternative technologies may require additional technical modifications to be qualified as Environmentally Superior as defined by the NC Attorney General Agreements.

  • The 21st century is characterized by knowledge-based economy or society. The most important features of this knowledge society are the close relationship between science and technology, and the birth of science-based technologies or industries. Bioindustry which is the core area in this era is a representative science-based industry(SBI). In SBIs including BT(biotechnology) and ICT(information and communication technology), the creation of scientific knowledge and the ability to capitalize on that are very important. The United States leadership in research across the spectrum of science and technology is the result of the success in both achieving high level of research and capitalizing on that enabled them to grow. Capitalization is the process that transforms the results of research into practical concrete national benefits. It is such a dynamic process that cant be clearly modeled. In this study, we propose the dynamic capitalization process for innovation of SBIs in terms of the fuel and engine and analyse our potential.

  • Recently, the rapid evolution of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has enabled its key role in industries and predictive sciences. From diverse research disciplines, however, are there strong needs for integrated analytical tools for multi-phenomena beyond simple flow simulation. Based on the concurrent simulation of multi-dynamics, multi-phenomena beyond simple flow simulation. Based on the concurrent simulation of multi-dynamics, multi-physics and multi-scale phenomena, the multi-phenomena CFD technology enables us to perform the flow simulation for integrated and complex systems. From the multi-phenomena CFD analysis, the high-precision analytical and predictive capacity can enhance the fast development of industrial technologies. It is also expected to further enhance the applicability of the simulation technique to medical and bio technology, new and renewable energy, nanotechnology, and scientific computing, among others.

  • This paper explores multi-technology capabilities between Korea and Taiwan by analyzing the pattern of inventive activities concerning technology fusion by using patent bibliometrics. Although two countries exhibit a similar level of invention activities and high degree of specialization in emerging technologies measured by the number and technological fields of their US patents, innovation systems in two countries differ. MTCs (multi-technology corporations) are stronger in Korea national innovation system while small innovative firms play important roles in Taiwan national innovation system. Technology fusion has been an important source of technological innovation and it suggests possible advantage for the Korean innovation system because it is a common belief that global size firms - most of them are multi-technology corporations - can perform better in multi-technology fusion and scientific research. The result of patent bibliometrics suggests rather complex answers to the belief Even though Korea shows slight advantage, it may not be ascribed to the large MTCs.
