TPACK 기반 융합프로그램 개발 및 적용 - '우리 몸의 구조와 기능' 단원 중 배설 기관을 중심으로 - (Development and application of TPACK based STEAM program - Focused on the excretory organs in the 'structure and function of our body' unit -)

  • 본 연구에서는 초등과학 교육과정의 '우리 몸의 구조와 기능' 단원에서 배설 기관을 주제로 TPACK 기반의 STEAM 프로그램을 개발하여 적용하였다. 프로그램 개발 및 적용은 교육과정 분석 및 학습 목표 세부화, 물리적·심리적 학습 환경 분석, 교수·학습 방법 및 테크놀로지 선정, 수업에 활용할 교사의 TPACK 요인 정리 및 교수·학습자료 개발, 프로그램 적용 및 효과성 검증의 과정으로 진행하였다. STEAM 프로그램 설계 과정에서 고려한 교사의 TPACK은 내용학 지식(배설 기관의 생김새와 하는 일), 교육학 지식(STEAM, 문제 기반 학습, 조사학습, 토의학습, 협동 학습, 과학 글쓰기), 테크놀로지 지식(3D 프린터 및 스마트 기기 활용 기술)과 지식 간의 융합적인 요인이었다. 프로그램은 총 8시간으로 구성되었으며 실험 집단으로 선정된 5학년 학생 29명을 대상으로 적용하였다. 비교 집단의 5학년 27명에게는 교과서 중심으로 개발된 같은 주제의 프로그램을 적용하였다. 프로그램을 적용한 결과 실험 집단은 비교 집단에 비하여 창의적 문제해결력과 과학적 태도에서 유의미한 향상을 보였고 STEAM 프로그램에 대한 만족도도 높게 나타났다. 그러나 두 집단 간의 학업성취도는 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 학생들은 스스로 조사하고 탐구하며 알게 된 지식을 활용하여 문제를 해결하는 과정, 친구들과의 토의 및 협동 학습 과정을 통해 창의적 문제해결력이 향상되었던 것으로 보이며 새로운 기술의 활용, 학생 중심의 활동 과정 및 실생활과 관련된 문제를 해결하는 과정에서 과학적 태도와 만족도가 높아진 것으로 판단된다.

GRIs in the United States: Policy Directions Old and New

  • The United States National Innovation system has many distinctive aspects and its government research institutes (GRI's) play a variety of important roles within the overall system. This paper reviews issues pertaining to U.S. GRI's but within the broader concept of US science and technology policy. After presenting an overview of the GRI's in this broader context, the paper presents a brief historical analysis of changes in the roles and deployment of U.S. GRI's. After identifying unique features of GRI's (ones that separate the U.S. GRI's from other nations) the paper concludes by identifying the ways in which the U.S. experience may be relevant to other nations such as Korea. The lessons include the competition-cooperation with large-scale and multidisciplinary university research centers, the use of GRI's to promote sharing and efficiencies in fundamental scientific equipment and resources, and the ability of GRI's to accelerate the development of science and technology.

미국 초등교사의 과학교수에 대한 스토리라인 탐색 (An Inquiry into the U. S. Elementary School Teachers' Science Teaching Storylines)

  • This study aims to inquire into the U. S. elementary school teachers' storylines for science teaching methods, scientific knowledge and interactions with students. As research subjects, two American elementary school teachers, named Christina and Melissa, were selected. As test tools, this study adopted Storyline Test and semi-structured interviews. Firstly, in regard to the science teaching method, Christina evaluated that she gradually improved her science teaching skills up to positive 6 points, starting from 2 points in the first year of teaching career, while Melissa sustained a stable state with 5 points in the 9th year of teaching career, starting from 1 point in the first year of teaching career. It was found that both the teachers had more confidence in their science teaching methods by participating in various training programs. Secondly, Christina evaluated her scientific knowledge in the first year of teaching career as 4 points, but evaluated her present scientific knowledge as stable as 6 points since she started studying teaching materials actively, discussing with other teachers and having more ability of application through science class integrated with other school subjects, in the 7th year of her teaching career. On the other hand, Melissa evaluated her scientific knowledge in the first year of teaching career as 1 point since she did not exactly know what to teach elementary school students, but in the 6th year of teaching career, she sustained a stable state with points through joint-activities with other teachers. It was found that chances to research with other teachers had important effect on both the teachers' confidence in scientific knowledge. Thirdly, in regard to interactions with students in science class, Christina said that she did not have any interaction with students when instructing inquiry activities in the first year of teaching career, but since the 10th year of her teaching career, she had sustained a stable state with 6 points through active interaction with students, by leading learning projects and science competitive exhibitions, etc. On the other hand, Melissa evaluated her interaction with students in the first year of teaching career as 1 point because her class was reading-oriented, but since the 9th year of teaching career, she had sustained a stable state with 6 points so far, by developing inquiry activity strategies to improve interaction with students. Overall, it was found that inquiry activities played a central role in improving both the teachers' interaction with students.

영재 학생들의 Mentorship교육에 관한 연구 (Research on Mentorship education for gifted students)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 영재 교육에 있어서 Mentorship 교육의 유용성을 알아 보고자 한다. 대학교 부설 영재 교육원에서 수학중인 학생 중 심화 단계에서 Mentorship의 신청을 받아 실시하고 수행과정의 특성관찰과 설문지를 통한 학생들의 의견을 통해 그 유용성을 검증하였다. Mentorship을 통해 학생들은 자기 주도적 학습 능력이 향상되었고, 실험설계를 직접 수행함으로서 과학적 사고능력과 창의적 문제 해결력이 신장되었으며. 논문을 직접 발표함으로써 실제 과학 활동을 통한 과학자의 자긍심을 가지게 되었다고 볼 수 있다. 또한 설문 결과 학생들이 느끼는 Mentorship의 결과도 매우 긍정적으로 평가했다. Mentorship은 영재학생들에게 체험과 사고의 폭을 넓히고 과학적 사고 능력과 창의적 문제 해결력을 향상시킬 수 있는 교육방법 중 하나라고 말할 수 있다.

Structural Framework to Measure Smart Technology Capability for Smart Factory of Manufacturing Fields

  • Smart technology has been utilized in various fields of all kinds of industries. Manufacturing industry has built its smart technology environment appropriate for its manufacturing fields in order to strengthen its manufacturing performance and competitiveness. The advance of smart technology for manufacturing industry needs to efficiently produce products, and response customer's demands and services in a global industrial environment. The smart technology capability of manufacturing fields is very crucial for the innovative production and efficient operation activities, and for efficient advancement of the manufacturing performance. We have necessitated a scientific and objective method that can gauge a smart technology ability in order to manage and strengthen the smart technology ability of manufacturing fields. This research provides a comprehensive framework that can rationally gauge the smart technology capability of manufacturing fields for effectively managing and advancing their smart technology capabilities. In this research, we especially develop a structural framework that can gauge the smart technology capability for a smart factory of manufacturing fields, with verifying by reliability analysis and factor analysis based on previous literature. This study presents a 13-item framework that can measure the smart technology capability for a smart factory of manufacturing fields in a smart technology perspective.

A Radial Basis Function Approach to Pattern Recognition and Its Applications

  • Pattern recognition is one of the most common problems encountered in engineering and scientific disciplines, which involves developing prediction or classification models from historic data or training samples. This paper introduces a new approach, called the Representational Capability (RC) algorithm, to handle pattern recognition problems using radial basis function (RBF) models. The RC algorithm has been developed based on the mathematical properties of the interpolation and design matrices of RBF models. The model development process based on this algorithm not only yields the best model in the sense of balancing its parsimony and generalization ability, but also provides insights into the design process by employing a design parameter (${\delta}$). We discuss the RC algorithm and its use at length via an illustrative example. In addition, RBF classification models are developed for heart disease diagnosis.

과학기반산업과 한국의 과학자본화 (The Capitalization on Science and Science-based Industry in Korea)

  • The 21st century is characterized by knowledge-based economy or society. The most important features of this knowledge society are the close relationship between science and technology, and the birth of science-based technologies or industries. Bioindustry which is the core area in this era is a representative science-based industry(SBI). In SBIs including BT(biotechnology) and ICT(information and communication technology), the creation of scientific knowledge and the ability to capitalize on that are very important. The United States leadership in research across the spectrum of science and technology is the result of the success in both achieving high level of research and capitalizing on that enabled them to grow. Capitalization is the process that transforms the results of research into practical concrete national benefits. It is such a dynamic process that cant be clearly modeled. In this study, we propose the dynamic capitalization process for innovation of SBIs in terms of the fuel and engine and analyse our potential.

메타분석을 통한 STEAM 교육의 효과검증 (Effectiveness of STEAM Education applying a meta-analysis)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of integrated education research conducted in Korea and to propose a meaningful discussion for further research. Among the studies conducted for last five years, the relevant 69 research articles were selected, and 211 effect sizes were calculated. Effect sizes were analyzed with different dependent variables including creativity, problem solving ability, inquiry skills, scientific recognition, attitude, interest, motivation and self-esteem. In addition, effect sizes with different moderating variable, such as samples sizes, characteristics of subjects, class types, core disciplines were compared. The conclusions of this study was that STEAM education had a relatively middle effect size. Finally, researchers discussed the results related with previous results, and provided the implications and suggestion for future studies.

영재 선발을 위한 초인지 사고 수준에 따른 학생들의 과학글쓰기 경향성 분석 (Differences of Science Writing Tendencies according to the Level of Meta-cognition Between General and Gifted Students)

  • 본 연구는 영재 선발의 자료로써 활용될 수 있는 학생들의 글쓰기 능력을 파악하기 위해 초인지 사고 수준에 따른 과학글쓰기의 경향성을 분석하는 데 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 비판적 사고력과 문제해결력을 측정할 수 있는 서술형 초인지 검사도구를 개발하고, 이를 이용하여 학생들의 초인지 사고 수준을 측정하였다. 이후 예상하는 글, 설명하는 글, 주장하는 글, 비판하는 글, 상상하는 글 등의 과학글쓰기 과제를 통해 초인지 사고 수준에 따른 과학글쓰기 경향성을 분석하였다. 그 결과 초인지 사고수준에 따라 학생들의 글쓰기 능력에 차이가 있음을 밝혔다. 초인지 사고 수준이 낮은 학생들은 생각한 것을 잘 표현하지 못하였으며, 초인지 사고 수준이 높은 학생들은 집중도가 높아 자신의 표현상 약점을 깨닫고 글의 완성도를 높이려는 경향이 나타났다. 이로부터 영재 선발의 자료로써 과학글쓰기의 활용 가능성을 알 수 있었다.

소 초유의 유효성분과 산업적 활용 (Effective Components of Bovine Colostrum and Its Applications)

  • Bovine colostrum is necessary for newborn calves to survive, grow and receive immunity from their mother. Cows in Korea produce about 35kg of colostrum, 4Kg of which is fed to the calf, and the rest is discarded. The bovine colostrum causes the harmful side effects to human, such as allergies and digestive problems; so, it is prohibited by law to consume colostrum itself as a food. However, many scientific research data have suggested that components in the colostrum can improve human health and has the ability to help treat diseases. In line with the trend of food and pharmacy industries using natural product materials, which attract positive attention, recently, some ingredients in colostrum have been used in the production of food supplements, and it has been used in its raw form in some cosmetics. This review introduces the active ingredients and physiologically active substances contained in bovine colostrum, summarizes the efficacy of physiological enhancement of the colostrum, which has been proven by scientific methods to date, and also suggests the possibility of industrial applications of colostrum as an animal-derived natural material.
