A Study of the Pattern of Elderly's Internet Usage, Self-efficacy, and Self-esteem (노인의 인터넷 사용 실태, 자아효능감, 자아존중감에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the patterns of internet usage, selfefficacy, and self-esteem of the elderly. Method: Study participants were 139 older than 60 years of age who had used internet and could access internet anytime at home. Data were collected from March to September, 2009 by using a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using PASW/WIN 18.0 program. Results: The meantime of internet use was 8.74 hours per week, frequently used web-site was 'Newspaper and magazine', and subjects mainly used internet 'not to fall behind the times'. The mean score of internet use capability was 2.42, among theses the score of 'Searching necessary information' was the highest. The internet use capability of the subjects was significantly different in terms of education level, spouse, economic status, and the length of use. The mean scores of self-efficacy and self-esteem were $28.22{\pm}4.42$ and $28.51{\pm}4.25$, respectively. Conclusions: These results suggest that the elderly people use internet not to fall behind the times but they have enough capability to use internet searching or e-mailing. Also, it is true that there are many influencing factors on internet use and capability of the elderly. Therefore, it is needed to investigate the internet use of the elderly more closely.

A STUDY ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF STANDARD CRITERIA OF EQUIPMENT FOR 3 YEAR NURSING EDUCATION (3년제 간호교육과정의 실험실습 기자재 기준 개발)

  • This descriptive study was conducted in order to develop a standard criteria for nursing laboratory facilities and equipment for use by the 3 year nursing colleges. The data was collected from Aug. 28 to Sept. 30, 1997 by mail from 44 3 year nursing schools. To develop a standard criteria, the syllabi for Fundamentals of Nursing laboratory and for Physical Assessment were collected and analyzed. The following information was elicited and analyzed by the researchers : 1. for each procedure in the syllabus, the percentage of schools using the procedures 2. the facilities and equipment recognized as necessary and the percentage of schools which possess each item 3. calculation of the standard criteria for size of the nursing laboratory together with a list of the necessary facilities and equipment. The results of the study were as follows : 1. The Size of facility was 181.2m2 for fundamentals of Nursing laboratory and 56.4m2 for the storage room. For those whose number of students exceed 120, 1.98m2 is required for each students. 2. The number of items included in the standard criteria was 92 for Fundamentals of Nursing and Physical Assessment and 47 for other nursing subjects. The items made of rubber, plastic and the disposable ones were suggested but excluded from the standard criteria. Based on the above findings, the following suggestions were made : 1. Periodic review of the standard criteria is necessary to update the standard. 2. A study on the standardization of the curriculum for basic science laboratory, including experiment and a standard criteria of equipment, is necessary. 3. A study to develop a computer program for management of nursing laboratory facilities and equipment is needed.

Development of Sediment Assessment Tool for Effective Erosion Control (SATEEC) in Small Scale Watershed (소유역의 효과적인 침식조절을 위한 유사평가 툴(SATEEC)의 개발)

  • The Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) has been used in over 100 countries to estimate potential long-term soil erosion from the field. However, the RUSLE estimated soil erosion cannot be used to estimate the sediment delivered to the stream networks. For an effective erosion control, it is necessary to compute sediment delivery ratio (SDR) for watershed and sediment yield at watershed outlet. Thus, the Sediment Assessment Tool for Effective Erosion Control (SATEEC) was developed in this study to compute the sediment yield at any point in the watershed. To compute spatially distributed sediment yield map, the RUSLE was first integrated with the ArcView GIS and three area based sediment delivery ratio methods were incorporated in the SATEEC. The SATEEC was applied to the Bangdong watershed, Chuncheon, Gangwon Province to demonstrate how it can be used to estimate soil loss and sediment yield for a watershed. The sediment yield using USDA SDR method is 8,544 ton/year and 4,949 ton/year with the method by Boyce. Thus, use of watershed specific SDR is highly recommended when comparing the estimated sediment yield with the measured sediment data. The SATEEC was applied with hypothetical cropping scenario and it was found that the SATEEC can be used to assess the impacts of different management on the sediment delivered to the stream networks and to find the sediment source areas for a reach of interest. The SATEEC is an efficient tool to find the best erosion control practices with its easy-to-use interface.

  • 인구의 증가와 급속한 산업화 그리고 편안함을 추구하고자 하는 문명의 이기로 인한 에너지 사용량 증가는 환경오염을 가속화시키는 문제를 유발하고 있어 전 세계적으로 심각한 사회문제로 대두되고 있다. 이에 반해 삶의 질의 향상에 따라 보다 쾌적한 환경에 대한 욕구와 인식의 변화로 환경보호에 대한 관심이 증가하는 추세이며, 이에 따라 각 국의 환경규제는 날로 강화되고 있다. 이러한 환경문제를 해결하기 위한 국제협력이 활발해지면서 무역과 연계된 국제 환경규제가 가속화되고 있으며, 환경선진국은 이러한 환경규제를 무역장벽으로 이용하고 있어 국가의 대외경쟁력에도 직 간접적으로 영향을 미치고 있다. 환경오염물질 중 질소산화물(NOx), 황산화물(SOx), 일산화탄소(CO), 이산화탄소($CO_2$) 및 휘발성유기화합물(VOCs), 다이옥신 그리고 입자상물질(PM)과 같은 대기오염물질은 대기 중으로 쉽게 확산되는 특성에 의해 인접한 지역까지 영향을 미치기 때문에 국제적인 규제대상의 초점이 되고 있으며, 경제협력개발기구(OECD, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), 유엔산하 국제해사기구(IMO, International Maritime Organization) 및 국제연소기구협회(CIMAC, International Council on Combustion engines)등 여러 국제기구를 중심으로 각종 규제수단을 개발하여 적용하고 있다. 특히, 국제해사기구(IMO)에서는 선박에서 발생되는 오염물질 등에 대한 규제강화를 위하여 새로운 국제해양오염방지협약(MARPOL)을 채택, 발효하여 그 규제 범위를 넓혀감에 따라 선박에 대한 각종 환경규제가 대폭 강화되고 있어 친환경 선박 및 관련 기술 개발이 활발히 진행 중에 있다. 이 글에서는 선박에서 배출되는 대기오염물질 중 그 자체로도 인체에 유해하며, 산성비, 광화학스모그 등 다양한 환경문제를 유발시키는 대표적인 물질인 질소산화물(NOx)과 질소산화물 배출규제에 대한 대응기술인 선택적촉매환원법(SCR, Selective Catalytic Reduction)과 SCR 탈질시스템에 사용되는 SCR 촉매에 대해 소개하고자 한다.

The history, present status and future perspective of electronics and electronic technologies (전자공학 및 전자기술의 역사, 현황 그리고 미래)

  • Electronics has different meanings to different people and in different countries. Hence, let me difine the term in the sense that it is used here. Electronics in the science and the technology of the passage of charged particles in a gas, in a vacumn, or in a semiconductor. The beginning of electronics came in 1895 when H. A. Lorentz postulated the existence of discrete charges called electrons. Two years later J.J. Thompson found these electrons experimentally. In the same year (1897) Braun built what was probaly the first electron tube, essentially a primitive cathode-ray tube. It was not until the start of the 20th century that electronics began to take technological shape. In 1904 Fleming invented the diode which he called a valve. This era begins with the invention of the transistor about 30 years ago. The history of this invention is interesting. M.J. Kelly, director of research(and later president of Bell Laboratories), had the foresight to realize that the telephone system needed electronic switching and better amplifiers. Vacuum tubes were not very reliable, principally because they generated a great deal of heat even when they were not being used, and, particularly, because filaments burned out and the tubes had to be replaced. In 1945 a solid-state physics group wa formed. The foregoing completes the history of electronics and electronic industries up to 1978. There is already a start toward a merging of the computer and the communication industries which might be called information manipulation. This includes storage of information, sorting, computation, information retrieval, and transmission of data. This combination of the computer and the communication fields will penetrate many disciplines. Applications will be made in the fields of law, medicine, biological sciences, engineering, library services publishing banking, reservation systems, management control, education, and defense.

  • The Seven-story Stone Pagoda of Jeongamsa Temple consists of dolomitic limestone. The surface of the stone stupa is efflorescene. There are spaces between parts in the stereobate and part of roof at the fifth story and above. The space between parts is colonized by biological contaminants. There are breakaway parts in the third, fifth, sixth, seventh story. The dry and wet cleaning of all the biological contaminants, efflorescene. The steam cleaning of rest of efflorescene. The use of poultice with oxalic acid, were done to remove the rust. Breakaway parts are inosculated by L30 and Por-rok. Spaces between parts are waterproofing by Porrok. After treatment, the efflorescene of part of waterproofing are comparatively scarce. So waterproofing is effective at reduced efflorescene and waterproof.

  • There are more than 2,900 different species of termites in the world, and just there are 23 species in Japan. They caused more severe infestation compared with Korea. When a structure has become infested with termites, it is important that appropriate action must be taken: the chemical pest control (fumigation, soil termiticide treatment, bait system etc.) or the non-chemical pest control (low oxygen treatment, carbon dioxide treatment, high/low temperature treatment etc.). Especially, there were attempts to make practical protocol of various alternatives since the fumigant(methyl bromide) had been phased out in 2005 in Japan, and practically non-chemical methods would be effective alternatives for some cases, where the scale of infestation is small and limited and when long treatment is possible. But most of all, it is important that the process of pest control is made according to each species of termites with consideration for different characteristics of termites.

  • This paper examines the works produced from 2000, the first year of the new millenium, to the late 2006 with a focus on those of Jean Paul Gaultier, a representative designer of deconstruction, in an effort to determine the aesthetic characters of deconstructional fashion. In this context, this paper deals with the theoretical study on the concepts and features of deconstruction as a part of analysis into its fashion using the works of Gaultier as a major source viewed to typically demonstrate the deconstructional characters of fashion. For this purpose, a survey was conducted to 155 works of Gaultier featured from 2001 to 2006 mostly in Vogue, the popular and influencing magazine of the USA(39 pieces in 2001, 30 in 2002, 29 in 2003, 23 in 2004, 12 in 2005 and 22 in 2006, respectively). In particular, 106 fashion pictures were put to analysis as they seemed to represent deconstruction intensively. The deconstructional characters of his works were examined in the categories of difference, inter-meaning, inter-textuality and decomposition on the basis of preceding studies, which resulted in the following outcomes: First, difference was found in 38 works out of 106 images, accounting for 36%, the biggest frequency; Second, inter-meaning accounted for 33% with 35 pieces, most frequently next to difference; Third, inter-textuality followed inter-meaning with 17 images or 15% in terms of frequency; Fourth, decomposition was revealed in 16 images in the same ratio of 15% as inter-textuality.

Duck's Science - 오리사육시 복지 개선을 위한 샤워시설 및 트러프 설치의 효과

  • 2006년 기준으로 1천8백만 수수의 육용오리가 사육되고 있는 영국에서는 오리 사육시 복지적인 측면에서의 생산 시스템에 대하여 여러 의견이 나오고 있다. 자연에서 물과 오리의 상관관계에도 불구하고, 오리가 몸을 담그거나 헤엄칠 수 있는 등 활동에 필요한 물을 제공해야한다는 어떠한 법적 규제도 마련되어 있지 않다. 어떤 경우에는 오리들이 머리를 물에 담글 수 있게 트러프(홈통형 물통)을 제공하기도 하지만 어떤 경우에는 니플 급수기를 통해서만 물에 접근할 수 있기도 하다. 유럽평의회는 오리들이 머리를 담그고 깃털을 적실 수 있는 형태로 물을 제공할 것을 권장한다. 우리는 이번 연구에서 오리의 복지가 자연 및 물의 접근 허용 점위와 관련이 있다는 것을 밝히고자 오리의 몸과 깃털 상태를 기록하는 한편, 물 제공에 따른 복지 수준을 평가하기 위해 3자기 행동 평가를 하였다. 오리들은 욕조(작은 연못), 트러프, 샤워시설, 니플급수기, 5주령까지 니플 급수기만 제공하고 이후 욕조를 이용하는 등의 5가지 방법으로 물에 접근할 수 있도록 하였고, 이는 1)한 시설에서 오리가 보내는 시간, 2)욕조가 주어졌을 때 오리들의 보상행동, 3) 오리들이 가장 선호하는 시설을 기록하여 오리의 행동을 평가하였다. 이를 통해 오리들이 머리를 담그고 깃털을 정리할 수 있는 물을 제공하지 않으면 오리들이 코나 깃털을 깨끗이 유지할 수 없다는 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 중요한 것은 욕조, 트러프, 샤워기를 통해 물을 제공해 주었을 때 물에서 목욕(bathing)을 하며 보낸 시간은 모두 동일하였다는 사실이다. 그러나 니플 급수기에서 목욕행동(bathing movement)을 한 시간은 아주 짧았으며, 니플 급수기 만으로 사육되었던 오리군의 욕조시설을 제공하였을 때는 '보상 반등행동'을 보였다. 트러프나 샤워시설이 제공되었던 그룹에서는 보상행동을 보이지 않아 이러한 시설들이 욕조와 동일한 작용을 하는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 또, 오리들에게 선택권이 주어졌을 때 오리들은 욕조에서 헤엄을 치고, 샤워시설에서 물을 마시고 장난치는 것을 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 다른 시설들이 제공되었을 때 오리들은 니플 급수기에서 거의 시간을 보내지 않았다. 이번 연구를 통하여 육용 오리의 사육 환경의 복지 개선을 위해 트러프나 샤워 시설로 실제 욕조(작은 연못) 만큼 긍정적인 효과를 얻음을 확인 할 수 있었다.

Current Status and Outlook of the Institute-Academia Collaboration in Aerospace field (항공우주 학연협력 현황과 전망)

  • Lee, Myung-bak Administration comprises the plan to foster the Universities as a world's research and development point, and to strengthen the Institute-Academia Collaboration for the knowledge based economy in the new plan of science and technology. In addition, by participating Universities into the medium-and long-term research business of government-supported institute, it is expected to strengthen the basic initiative research, revitalize the joint study conducted by the universities and government-supported institute, and to reshuffle the statutes to promote personnel exchanges between the universities and government-supported institute. Universities role as a principle of innovation in the field of Aerospace is getting its weight so that the necessity of the institute-academia collaboration is increasing. Types of the Institute-Academia Collaboration can be categorized into the Joint-Study, internships for the students in Masters and Ph. D. programs, Professor-Researcher Exchange, Joint Research Lab, and Joint Postgraduate Course, and those are the cases from the U.S., Brazil, Germany, France, Japan, and Korea. High mutual reliance on the research subject, mutual trust on the research capability, and abundant and flexible capabilities in sources are required to make a success in Institute-Academia Collaboration.
