Factor Analysis of Visual Literacy Influencing Diagram Understanding and Drawing in Computer Science Education

  • Recently, with the advent of the software-based society, many organizations have been providing software developing education, such as coding, to Computer Science majors and non-Computer Science majors. When implementing a program, teachers can let students draw a variety of diagrams, such as flowcharts, UML diagrams, and ERD diagrams ahead. As the importance of computational thinking is increasingly emphasized, abstracting algorithms into diagrams is considered an important educational element. In this paper, we examined the visual literacy and abstract/concrete way of thinking of novice programmers in order to analyze factors affecting the abstraction process of drawing diagrams, and how they influence students' ability to understand diagrams and ability to draw. If we understand what factors influence the abstraction process in this study, we can suggest educational alternatives for future strategies in which teachers will teach students.

  • This paper proposes how to design and implement data-driven strategies by investigating how a firm can increase its value using data science. Drawing on prior studies on architectural innovation, a behavioral theory of the firm, and the knowledge-based view of the firm as well as the analysis of field observations, the paper shows how data science is abused in dealing with meso-level data while it is underused in using macro-level and alternative data to accomplish machine-human teaming and risk management. The implications help us understand why some firms are better at drawing value from intangibles such as data, data-science capabilities, and routines and how to evaluate such capabilities.

애니메이션 교육을 위한 모션드로잉 범주화 -뇌과학 원리를 적용한 교육모형 개발 기초연구 (Categorization of motion drawing for educating animation -A basic study on the development of educational model applied with principles of brain science)

  • 본 연구는 대안적인 교육모형을 연구하는 과정으로 뇌의 기능과 학습, 창작 기제를 고려한 교수법을 적용하면 애니메이션 드로잉능력이 효율적으로 신장될 것이라는 관점으로 이어지기 위한 연구의 선행분석 과정이다. 근래에 각 분야의 학문 연구들은 단순히 한 전공에 국한되는 것이 아니라 타 분야와의 융합적인 연구 활동을 통해 세분화 된 융합적 교육 콘텐츠를 생산해 내는 시도들을 하고 있다. 어떠한 분야 던지 복합적인 인문학적 경험 구조를 가지고 있기 때문이며 예술분야 또한 그러하다. 특히나 영상콘텐츠인 애니메이션 분야는 전문화된 영역이 세분화 되어 있기 때문에 드로잉 관련 교육만 보더라도 전문성에 필요한 항목을 명확히 하고 체계적인 교육방법을 개발할 필요성이 요구된다. 이에 본 연구는 애니메이션 교육방법의 전문적인 특성에 적합한 교육모형을 설계하기 위한 문헌 연구결과를 제시한다. 이에 애니메이션 분야의 교육에 가장 기초적인 능력을 연마할 수 있는 드로잉의 의미를 전공분야의 특성에 맞게 개념화하고 범주화하였다. 이후 재정립 된 드로잉의 개념과 범주를 통해 구성요소가 돌출되며 이는 후속 작업인 학습목표를 구체화하는 과정의 토대가 된다. 그에 대한 결과로 애니메이션 분야의 특성이 반영된 드로잉의 의미를 모션드로잉으로 정의하고 구성요소를 살펴보며, 뇌과학적 창의-학습 원리를 적용한 교육모형을 계획하기 위한 근거로 삼는다.

인발공정에 의해 강소성 가공된 AA1070선재의 미세조직 및 기계적 특성 (Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of an AA1070 Wire Severely Deformed by Drawing Process)

  • A commercial AA1070 alloy for electrical wire is severely deformed by drawing process in which a rod with an initial diameter of 9mm into is reduced to a wire of 2mm diameter. The drawn AA1070 wire is then annealed at various temperatures from 200 to 450 ℃ for 2h. Changes in microstructure, mechanical properties and electrical properties of the specimens with annealing temperature are investigated in detail. The specimen begins partially to recrystallize at 250 ℃; above 300 ℃ it is covered with equiaxed recrystallized grains over all regions. Fiber textures of {110}<111> and {112}<111> components are mainly developed, and {110}<001> texture is partially developed as well. The tensile strength tends to decrease with annealing temperature due to the occurrence of recovery or/and recrystallization. On the other hand, the elongation of the annealed wire increases with the annealing temperature, and reaches a maximum value of 33.3 % at 300 ℃. Electric conductivity of the specimens increases with annealing temperature, and reaches a maximum value of 62.6 %IACS after annealing at 450 ℃. These results are discussed in comparison with those for the other aluminum alloy.

The Korean Elementary Students' Conceptions of the Simple Electric Circuit

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate students' conceptions of the simple electric circuit using a battery and a bulb. 19 fourth grade students from a rural elementary school in Korea participated in this study. Data on the children's understandings of electric circuit were collected through three sources; prediction tests, drawing tests and individual interviews. The prediction tests were paper and pencil tests composed of 10 problems, predicting whether bulbs in 10 simple circuit diagrams would light. For each prediction, the children were asked to provide a written explanation of their thinking. The drawing tests consisted of 6 problems. One was to draw the inside of the bulb base, and the others were to make the wire connections between a battery and a bulb in the diagrams, to light the bulb. The interviews were conducted with seven children who showed differing degrees of understanding. No student was aware of the wire connections inside the bulb base. Many students stated whether the bulb would light or not, according to the tip of the bulb contacting the positive battery terminal and an end of wire contacting the negative battery terminal. Most of them thought that the tip of the bulb should contact the positive battery terminal, so that the bulb would light. In short, students did not use a scientific conception of electric current to predict and explain the electric circuit.

A Metabolic Pathway Drawing Algorithm for Reducing the Number of Edge Crossings

  • For the direct understanding of flow, pathway data are usually represented as directed graphs in biological journals and texts. Databases of metabolic pathways or signal transduction pathways inevitably contain these kinds of graphs to show the flow. KEGG, one of the representative pathway databases, uses the manually drawn figure which can not be easily maintained. Graph layout algorithms are applied for visualizing metabolic pathways in some databases, such as EcoCyc. Although these can express any changes of data in the real time, it exponentially increases the edge crossings according to the increase of nodes. For the understanding of genome scale flow of metabolism, it is very important to reduce the unnecessary edge crossings which exist in the automatic graph layout. We propose a metabolic pathway drawing algorithm for reducing the number of edge crossings by considering the fact that metabolic pathway graph is scale-free network. The experimental results show that the number of edge crossings is reduced about $37{\sim}40%$ by the consideration of scale-free network in contrast with non-considering scale-free network. And also we found that the increase of nodes do not always mean that there is an increase of edge crossings.

신선 가공에 의한 시멘타이트 재분해가 기계적 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Cementite Dissolution on the Mechanical Properties of the Heavily Drawn Hyper-Eutectoid Steel Wires used for Steel Cords)

  • The effects of the dissolved cementite on the mechanical properties have been experimentally investigated. The steel wires were fabricated depending on the carbon content of 0.82 and 1.02 wt.% and drawing strain from 4.12 to 4.32. The bending fatigue resistance and torsion ductility were measured by a hunter fatigue tester and torsion tester specially designed for thin-sized wires. The results showed that as the drawing strain and carbon content increased, the fatigue resistance and the torsional ductility of the steel wires decreased, while the tensile strength increased. In order to elucidate this behavior, the microstructure in terms of lamellar spacing (${\lambda}_p$), cementite thickness ($t_c$) and morphology of cementite was observed by advanced analysis techniques such as transmission electron microscope (TEM) and 3 dimensional atom probes (3-D AP).

초등과학영재의 과학 노트를 활용한 정리활동 특성분석 (The Characteristics of Summarized Activities using Science Notebook for Elementary School Science Gifted)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the writing styles and features of science writing by using science notebook for elementary school science gifted. The subject of this study was 37 sixth grade elementary school science gifted in P city. The preliminary 1 hour instruction was conducted to explain the usage of science notebook. The summarized activity using science notebook was conducted for 20 minutes following 4 hour lesson. These activities were performed for 8 times. As the result of this study, in The content which is learned today (main learning content)' which is one of components of science note, the writing appears the most frequently in external expression types and features of scientific writing, followed by writing+drawing, drawing, cartoon, writing+cartoon, mind map, table. Science writing which uses inductive thinking appears the most frequently in internal expression types and features of scientific writing, followed by deductive thinking, creative thinking. Among the components of science note, 'thinking and feeling', 'question,' 'one's own thinking of question' which are the components of science note promote the reflective thinking of elementary school student gifted for science.

『논어』의 '회사후소(繪事後素)'에 관한 미술학적 고찰 (A study on art-science of Huì-shì-hòu-sù(繪事後素) in 『the Discourse of Confucius』)

  • 미술계에서는 오래 전부터 고전 중의 "논어'를 필독서로 여겨왔다. 여기에 나오는 '회사후소(繪事後素)'라는 말은 그림을 그리는 화가는 물론이고 그림을 논하는 사람들까지 모르는 이가 없다. 그러나 그 의미를 "그림 그리는 일은 바탕을 갖춘 뒤에 하는 것이다" 또는 "그림 그리는 일은 나중에 흰색으로 완성한다"라고 해석하여 의견이 분분하다. 그림을 그리는 방법은 시간이 흘러도 잘 변하지 않는다. 학자들은 대개 전문적인 회화를 상투적으로 알고 있으며, 회화적인 기법에서의 흰색의 특수성을 잘 이해하지 못한다. 어떤 경우라도 그림을 그리기 전에 바탕처리를 하는 것이 기본이지만, 그림을 완성할 때 흰색으로 마무리하는 것은 일반적이지 않다. 고대의 채색화라도 오늘날의 비단 그림과 다르지 않다. 삶의 바탕이 되는 소양과 예술적 감각을 키워준 '회사후소'는 화가들의 뇌리에 새겨진 매우 유효한 미학사상이 되었다. '회사후소'에 대한 해석은 예논(禮論)의 시대적인 변화와 관련되지만, 본고에서는 순수하게 미술학적 입장에서 고찰하였다.

소집단 토론과 시각적 학습 양식이 그리기와 쓰기를 활용한 다중 표상 학습에 미치는 영향: 화학 개념을 중심으로 (The Influences of Small Group Discussion and Students' Visual Learning Style on Learning with Multiple Representations Using Drawing and Writing: Focused on Chemical Concepts)

  • 이 연구에서는 소집단 토론이 화학 개념 학습에서 제공되는 외적 표상들 간의 연계와 통합을 촉진하는 방안으로서의 그리기와 쓰기에 미치는 영향을 학생들의 시각적 학습 양식에 따라 조사하였다. 남녀공학 중학교 1학년 학생 449명을 개별 그리기 집단, 2인 1조의 소집단 그리기 집단, 개별 쓰기 집단, 2인 1조의 소집단 쓰기 집단에 배치한 후, '보일의 법칙', '샤를의 법칙'에 대하여 2차시 동안 수업을 실시하였다. 개념 이해도 검사 결과, 시각적 학습 양식과 관계없이 개별 그리기 집단보다 소집단 그리기 집단의 점수가 통계적으로 유의미한 차이로 높았다. 쓰기 집단에서는 시각적 학습 선호 학생들의 경우 소집단 쓰기 집단의 점수가 개별 쓰기 집단의 점수보다 통계적으로 유의미한 차이로 높았으나, 시각적 학습 비선호 학생들의 집단 간 점수 차이는 통계적으로 유의미하지 않았다. 소집단 그리기 집단의 점수가 소집단 쓰기 집단의 점수보다 통계적으로 높은 경향성을 보였다. 많은 학생들이 소집단 그리기와 소집단 쓰기에 대해 인지적, 동기적 측면에서 긍정적으로 인식하였다.
