  • The purpose of this study is to analyze high school chemistry curricula in Korea and China in order to identify possible implications for the improvement of the Korean curriculum. The school curricula of Korea and China had been developed by the Ministry of Education of both countries as national curricula. The 1996 Chinese high school chemistry curriculum, and the 7th Korean high school chemistry curriculum announced in 1997 were compared in respect to the characters, objectives, history, time allotment, structure, subject contents, and assessment plans. Based on the comparative analysis of the curricula, some of the ideas, which provide implications for the improvement of Korean chemistry curriculum, were identified. The identified ideas were elaborated to seek directions for the solutions of current problems in chemistry curriculum. such as common science subject. tentative implementation of curriculum, compulsory provision of chemistry, subjects in science course, enlargement of curriculum, and methods of assessment.

  • Curriculum reform has been a significant emphasis for most of countries all over the world for the past few years. It was the first time for Taiwan to develop a new Science and Life Technology curriculum Standards (SaLTS) for grades 1 through 9 compulsory educations. The SaLTS features integrated science content with the aim at motivating students to learn science and encouraging students to apply science to their everyday life, which is practically well aligned with the philosophical essence and foundations of Earth Systems Education (ESE). This paper calls attention to the importance of the inclusion of ESE into the forthcoming science curricula of Taiwan and worldwide and provides some exemplary ESE-inspired curriculum and instructional modules that have been successfully implemented in the secondary schools of Taiwan. Hopefully, this paper can shed some lights on the future development of the ESE-based science curricula, instructional modules, and teacher preparation programs.

  • Two project-centered secondary school programs were studied as part of an effort to elucidate successful components for science reform-based curriculum development. The Teachers for Exciting Science (TES), and Foundational Approaches in Science Teaching (FAST) programs in Korea and U.S., respectively, are project-centered programs because their curricula are centered on the activities initiated and engaged in by the students. Students serve as principal investigators in their projects, and teachers serve as guides. Both programs were analyzed based on criteria such as curriculum design, teaching, lives of students, lives of teachers, evaluation of program, from the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). In the programs, teachers and students directed the development of curricula and their implementation. Students assumed teacher roles as mentors of other students. And emphasis was on development of communication skills through student-delivered talks and written papers, and professional development of teachers as educators and scientists. Participation in TES stimulated secondary school student interest in science, encouraged inquiry thinking, increased achievement in learning science, and promoted better awareness of science related to real life. FAST students practice laboratory and field techniques, experimental design, hypothesis formation, generalization, and practical implications of research as academic and applied disciplinarians. These project-centered programs have been successfully implemented in field, lab, and classroom curricula for secondary science education. Comparison of these programs will provide an opportunity for identifying key elements instrumental in successful implementation of guidelines for science education, as measured through successful outcomes.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the invention-related content of foreign science curricula and investigate the perception of science educators about the degree of relevance between science curriculum and invention. For the analysis of foreign science curricula, we investigated the programs of 10 nations, including the US, Canada, UK, Japan, Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, France, Finland and China. To analyze the relevance between Korean science curriculum and invention, we examined common topics such as science, integrated science, and science inquiry experiment, and investigated that the elements related to invention education were included in each 'achievement standard' and 'teaching and evaluation methods'. Science educators including science teachers were asked to evaluate the degree of relevance of invention education. The results were as follows. First, science curricula in many countries contained invention-related content. Second, science educators recognized that invention education was related to science curriculum, but the systematic connection was insufficient. Third, because it is mainly limited to the results of designing and device design, they recognized that the relevance of invention education, which focuses on various processes such as problem design, inventive techniques and intellectual property, was not revealed. Therefore, it is necessary to be process-oriented when developing invention education teaching-learning methods and related materials in science education for the future.

  • The 7th curricula of computer education as a general subject for secondary schools in Korea has relatively stressed on the application softwares as a learning tools. Such approach might be very successful in terms of ICT literacy education, but it is not enough to teach fundamental concepts and principles of information technologies and computer science and it has also limitation to apply such knowledge to expand students' intellectual capabilities. Therefore, in this paper we first investigates the reason of introducing computer science principle education according to IT fluency and show appropriate direction of computer education curricula for secondary schools.

  • This study aims to analysis the curriculum problems and its improvements and to investigate curricula satisfaction among the students majoring in Clinical Pathology. A college used as a population, and 80 effective survey data were collected by sampling the graduates who carried out the clinical field training in third grade year. For statistical analysis of the collected data, the Stata(version 12.0) statistical package was used for frequency analysis, pearson correlations test and multiple regression analysis. The results of the analysis were as follows; First, the result showed that the synthetical theory curriculum has an positive effect on curricula satisfaction. Second, it was found that extension of both the clinical field training and laboratory and practice education have an significant influence direction of positiveness on curricula satisfaction. Third, as the problems of curriculum, the students selected shortage of english subjects connected with the job. We must intensify additional subjects (english ability) for job as the improvement of curriculum. Accordingly, academic, industrial circles and students are supposed to jointly seek for the plan for the enhancement of clinical field training satisfaction.

  • This study intends to evaluate the relationships between DLS union catalog and curricula and to suggest methods for its quality control. Comprehensiveness, specificity, currentness, and location of copies were selected for evaluation criteria. And this criteria were practiced to evaluate the relationships its indicators and library-based learning topics of social subjects in Seoul DLS. The results of analyses the DLS union catalog serves users with book-based learning information and lacks specificity to evaluate quality of learning materials. Especially the DLS don't satisfy the learning community with on-line contents. Accordingly it is essential to appoint teacher librarians understanding curricula and instructional values of the catalog for its quality control.
