NCTM 『학교 수학의 원리와 규준』에 대한 소고 (A Review of NCTM's 'Principles and Standards for School Mathematics')

  • 미국수학교사회(NCTM)는 1989년에 Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics (학교 수학의 교육과정과 평가 규준)를 발표하여 각 국의 수학과 교육과정 및 교수 학습에 영향을 주어 왔고, 2000년에는 그의 개정판 성격을 띤 Principles and Standards for School Mathematics (학교 수학의 원리와 규준)를 내 놓아 기술 공학 등 사회 변화의 조류에 맞는 수학 교육을 위한 지침을 제공하고 있다. 우리나라에서는 이 개정판에 대한 관심이 아직 상대적으로 많지 않아 일선 학교에 있는 교사들에게는 그 구체적인 내용을 접할 기회가 많지 않았다. 본 고에서는 이 개정판에 대한 특징을 살펴보고 우리에게 주는 시사점을 알아보고자 한다.

프랑스의 수학교육 및 수학교육과정 (The Teaching of Mathematics and the Mathematics Curriculum in France)

  • This paper describes the teaching of mathematics in France at the elementary and secondary levels. It consists of four parts: the structure of the french education system and the status of mathematics within it, the evolution of mathematics teaching in France from 1968 to nowadays, the teacher training in France, the mathematical contents in the elementary school curriculum and the mathematics curriculum in the lower secondary school. From this review, we can extract some characteristics of the teaching of mathematics in France.

Teaching Mathematics as an Alternative Approach to School Mathematics

  • Mathematics has developed dramatically in today's world and come to be increasingly put into practical use in various fields in society. However, many Japanese students dislike mathematics. We have to study mathematics education with this situation in our mind. When we consider a better educational material, we don't have to consider only within the framework of the current school mathematics. We can expect to find good mathematical materials in fields beyond the school mathematics. In this paper, we study how the inclusion of idea such as 'fuzzy theory' and 'graph theory' influences pupils' approaches to learning mathematics.

수학 내러티브가 일반고 학생의 수학 정서에 미치는 영향에 대한 사례 연구 (A case study on mathematics narrative's influences on affects about mathematics of ordinary high school students)

  • 교육부는 실생활 또는 판타지 맥락의 이야기를 활용하여 수학적 지식의 구성 동기를 제공하고 흥미를 유발하려는 스토리텔링을 주창하고 있다. 그러나 학교수학은 실생활이나 판타지 맥락과 직접적인 관련을 맺기 어려운 내용을 포함하기 때문에 그런 경우 수학적 사실들이 어떤 점에서 흥미로운지를 수학 내러티브로 구성하여 교수학습 하는 것이 긍정적 수학 정서 형성을 위한 한 가지 방안이 될 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 서울의 한 일반고에서 치러진 4회의 정기고사 문항들을 소재로 개발한 4건의 수학 내러티브를 정기고사가 끝날 때마다 한 건씩 그 시험을 치른 한 명 내지 5명의 학생들과 논의한 사례를 분석하여 수학 내러티브가 일반고 학생의 수학에 대한 정서에 미치는 영향과 그 개선 방향을 탐구하였다. 그 결과 4건의 수학 내러티브에 대한 논의에 꾸준히 참여한 한 학생의 수학에 대한 정서가 긍정적으로 변화하는 것을 관찰하였다. 이 학생의 변화와 다른 4명의 학생들의 반응으로부터 수학 내러티브의 개발과 적용에 대한 몇 가지 시사점을 논의하였다.

학교수학 교과서에서 사용하는 정의에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Definitions Presented in School Mathematics)

  • The purpose of this thesis is, through analysing the characteristics of the definitions in Korean school mathematics textbooks, to explore the levels of them and to make suggestions for definition - teaching as a mathematising activity, Definitions used in academic mathematics are rigorous. But they should be transformed into various types, which are presented in school mathematics textbooks, with didactical purposes. In this thesis we investigated such types of transformation. With the result of this investigation we tried to identify the levels of the definitions in school mathematics textbooks. And in school mathematics textbooks there are definitions which carry out special functions in mathematical contexts or situations. We can say that we understand those definitions, only if we also understand the functions of definitions in those contexts or situations. In this thesis we investigated the cases in school mathematics textbooks, when such functions of definition are accompanied. With the result of this investigation we tried to make suggestions for definition-teaching as an intellectual activity. To begin with we considered definition from two aspects, methods of definition and functions of definition. We tried to construct, with consideration about methods of definition, frame for analysing the types of the definitions in school mathematics and search for a method for definition-teaching through mathematization. Methods of definition are classified as connotative method, denotative method, and synonymous method. Especially we identified that connotative method contains logical definition, genetic definition, relational definition, operational definition, and axiomatic definition. Functions of definition are classified as, description-function, stipulation-function, discrimination-function, analysis-function, demonstration-function, improvement-function. With these analyses we made a frame for investigating the characteristics of the definitions in school mathematics textbooks. With this frame we identified concrete types of transformations of methods of definition. We tried to analyse this result with van Hieles' theory about levels of geometry learning and the mathematical language levels described by Freudenthal, and identify the levels of definitions in school mathematics. We showed the levels of definitions in the geometry area of the Korean school mathematics. And as a result of analysing functions of definition we found that functions of definition appear more often in geometry than in algebra or analysis and that improvement-function, demonstration-function appear regularly after demonstrative geometry while other functions appear before demonstrative geometry. Also, we found that generally speaking, the functions of definition are not explained adequately in school mathematics textbooks. So it is required that the textbook authors should be careful not to miss an opportunity for the functional understanding. And the mathematics teachers should be aware of the functions of definitions. As mentioned above, in this thesis we analysed definitions in school mathematics, identified various types of didactical transformations of definitions, and presented a basis for future researches on definition teaching in school mathematics.

수학 교과 전문성 개발 필요에 대한 초등 교사의 인식 (Elementary School Teachers' Perception on the Need of Professional Development in Mathematics)

  • 본 연구는 수학 교과 전문성 개발 필요에 대한 초등 교사의 인식을 탐색함으로써 수학 교과 전문성 개발의 개선 방향을 모색하였다. 이를 위해 초등학교에 재직 중인 초등교사를 포커스 그룹으로 구성하여 그룹 토의 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 수학 교과 전문성 개발 필요에 대하여 초등 교사는 불필요와 필요하다는 인식을 모두 가지고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 수학 교과 전문성 개발이 불필요하다는 인식에는 초등학교 수학 교과 내용의 쉬운 수준과 초등학교 수학 수업의 용이함이 영향을 미치고 있었으며, 수학 교과 전문성 개발이 필요하다는 인식에 대해서는 수학 수업의 다양한 측면 고려, 수학 수업 실패의 누적, 학생에 대한 권위 유지, 사회 변화에 따른 수업 개선 요구, 학교 업무 수행의 영향, 교내 교사 학습 공동체의 영향, 동료 교사의 영향, 교사로의 성장을 위한 노력이 관련 요인으로 나타났다. 이를 바탕으로 수학 교과 전문성 개발에서 교사의 참여를 촉진할 수 있는 방안을 논의하였다.

초등학교 교사들의 수학 수업에 대한 불안 요인과 수학에 대한 태도 조사

  • The purpose of this study to analyze correlation for the tendency of mathematics anxiety, traits according to the factors of mathematics anxiety and mathematics attitude depending on the teacher variable through a survey of mathematics anxiety and attitude toward mathematics on teaching mathematics of elementary school teachers. To solve the questions above, sampled 250 elementary school teachers in Daegu province. As a result of the study, mathematics anxiety on teaching is not actually formed a lot. However, the more training experience with mathematics, previous academic career, education career were, the lower mathematics anxiety was. The results showed that mathematics anxiety is affected by previous academic career, training experience with mathematics in particular. In addition, we found that mathematics anxiety is affected by mathematics anxiety in their school, recognition of the ability to explain mathematics contents and attitudes toward mathematics.

제 7차 수학과 교육과정의 초등학교 현장적용에서 나타나는 문제점 및 개선방향 (Difficulties and Issues in Applying the 7th Mathematics Curriculum to Elementary School Classrooms)

  • This paper is to make strides toward an enriched understanding of the difficulties and issues raised by applying the 7th mathematics curriculum to elementary school classrooms. A general overview of the curriculum is presented in line with teaching and learning methods emphasized in the curriculum. Four classroom episodes are presented in brief in order to diagnose the problems in situating the curriculum in elementary mathematics classrooms. These episodes deal with lessons emphasizing activity rather than its associated concepts or principles, overusing multimedia data, pursuing play rather than its associated thinking, and distributing various individual worksheets in the name of differentiated instructional methods. In addition to the episodes, interview data with elementary school teachers also are presented as needed. This paper discusses two aspects of activating the curriculum into elementary mathematics classrooms. One deals with the issues of the curriculum and textbooks themselves, and the other covers those of research trends on mathematics education and teaching practices. This paper finally emphasizes a collaborative working relation among classroom teachers, mathematics educators, and policy makers with their own places and roles.

실용수학 교육과정 및 교과서 분석 (An Analysis of the Practical Mathematics Curriculum and Textbooks)

  • Practical Mathematics is one of the career elective subjects in the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum for high school. This study examined how well the practical mathematics textbooks reflect the recommendations and visions suggested by related professions and organizations with respect to career preparation, especially for students enrolling in engineering industry-focused specialized high schools. Also, this study looked more closely into the contents of practical mathematics in terms of the consistency among different textbooks and the advancement from middle school contents in similar domains.
