A Study on Utilizing BIM Level of Architectural Design Information for School Facilities (BIM을 활용한 학교시설 설계정보단계 설정에 관한 연구)

  • The recent advances in digital technology allow the use of BIM for integratively managing various information pertaining to an architectural structure. This can be the suitable tool for effectively utilizing the various requests of both the users and the administrators from the planning phase. In particular, planning and constructing a school facility can be challenging because it is an important learning facility where the students are required follow a set schedule. Accommodating to the various needs and requests of the users and the other related parties in the progress can be very difficult. Therefore, in order to use the BIM with the basis of data to manage the lifetime of the school facility, it is necessary to develop the specialized BIM process customized to the school facilities. Using this as the base, the BIM process specifically for school facilities should be phased in, applied, and expanded. The objective of this study is to define the scope of application and to plan for the efficient utilization of the BIM process specialized for school facilities, when conducting the project from planning phase to design development phase through the series of processes. Unlike the presently used enhancement of the visible minute details of the models, the methods to enhance the quality of information contained inside the model will be proposed. Also, the user will participate in the school facility construction. The realistic BIM application is aimed through the research for the processes for building models that will be utilized for construction and management.

  • External environment of enterprises are rapidly changing brought about mainly by global competition, cost and profitability pressures, and emerging new technology. In particular, frequent change of customer requirements is a tough challenge to manufacturing company. To cope with these challenges, a production planning and scheduling (PP&S) function might be established to provide accountability for both customer service and operational efficiency. PP&S deals with short-term decision making in the production process of whole supply chain. The task of PP&S is to seek a balance between customer orders and limited resources. At present, many PP&S software solutions have been utilized in many enterprises to generate a realistic production plan and schedule efficiently. The aim of this paper is to analyze the PP&S functionalities and its system architecture from the perspective of SCM (Supply Chain Management), and propose the PP&S solution classification framework to facilitate the comparison among various solutions.

  • The mission of the reserve forces unit is to prepare good training for reserve forces during peacetime. For good training, units require proper organization support agents, but they have difficulties due to a lack of unit members. For that reason, the units forecast the monthly attendance rate of reserve forces (using the x-1 year's result) to organize support agents and unit schedule. On the other hand, the existing planning method can have more errors compared to the actual result of the attendance rate. This problem has a negative effect on the training performance. Therefore, it requires more accurate forecast models to reduce attendance rate errors. This paper proposes an attendance rate forecast model using data mining. To verify the proposed data mining based model, the existing planning method was compared with the proposed model using real data. The results showed that the proposed model outperforms the existing planning method.

  • Despite the significance of ports as critical economic infrastructure, the berth facilities usually deteriorate due to heavy loading, unloading, aging, environmental weather conditions, marine growths, and lack of efficient maintenance management. Marine berths require proactive maintenance management to limit deterioration and defects as no berth facility is maintenance-free. Thus, delay in carrying out maintenance work for the marine berths can be devastating to the operational process involving ship entry, loading, and unloading operations. The aim of this research is to coordinate both operations work, and maintenance works that take place inside the berth of a local industrial port in Saudi Arabia, by developing a novel framework that integrates both works without affecting the efficiency and functionality of the berth. The study focused on defining the operational process of the port and identifying the elements with direct and indirect effects. In addition to determining the priority for the entry of ships inside the berth, it also identified the factors involved in designing a framework that included maintenance work as a component of the monthly berth occupancy schedule. By applying a mathematical model, a framework was established, which includes all the important elements of the process. As a result of the mathematical method formulation process, a database was designed that organizes and coordinates the operations of all berths within the port. This creates time to carry out the required maintenance work monthly as well as ease of coordination with the contractors responsible for the implementation of those works.

  • Now, in a domestic country, the rebuilding and redevelopment of existing houses has been rapidly increasing with an economic growth and the improvement of living condition. As a result of that, a lot of C&D waste has been also produced. Nevertheless, it is not easy to find the research results for appropriate treatment and management of C&D waste in domestic. Therefore this study suggests the optimum deconstruction management system for minimizing construction waste and increasing reuse or recycle rate of material different from traditional demolition. The system makes it possible to plan and manage in advance quantity of C&D waste, demolition methods of each structural elements and application methods of produced C&D waste through an integrated and computerized system. The purpose of the system is ultimately to contribute to minimizing environmental damages and reducing construction waste quantity of a country. This system is largely composed of four modules such as planning of preliminary demolition survey, estimating of demolition quantity, planning of demolition schedule and planning of construction waste management and each module can be also used individually according to the purpose of a user.

  • Simulation-Based Expert System(SIMBES) is a very effective tool to solve complex antral hard problems. The SIMBES model includes a simulator, a feature extractor, a machine learning system, a performance evaluator, and a Knowledge-Based Expert System(KBES). Since SIMBES depends on Problem domains, a schedule-based material requirements planning problem, which is NP-hard, was selected to exemplify the SIMBES model. To implement the SIMBES application in Smalltalk paradigm, a system class hierarchy was constructed. The hierarchy consists of five large classes such as Job Generator, Job Scheduler, Job Evaluator, Inference Engine, and Executive System. Several classes inside these classes were identified. Additionally, instance protocols about all classes have been described in terms of messages and pseudo methods. These protocols can be implemented easily by any other object-oriented languages. Furthermore, these results may be used as a skeletal system to develop a new SIMBES efficiently, especially when the application is related to other scheduling problems.

  • This paper discusses a knowledge-based system being developed by KAIST and KEPCO to assist planning the annual maintenance schedule of power units. To meet users' requirements, we have designed the system with several features: man-machine interaction, catalog system, user-friendliness, the hybrid-system of math-model and knowledge-base. In this paper, we introduce the outline of our system.

  • Increased attention has been given in recent years to the use of pumped hydrostorage plant to meet the requirements for peak generation and bottom pumping. Once a pumped hydrostorage plant is installed, its economic operation as an integral component of a steam generating system requires the selection of a pumping and generating schedule which will result in the most effective use of the hydro generating capacity. The general object of coordination of pumped hydrostorage plants with electric power system is the minimization of the overall procduction cost and the maximization of generation reserves. This paper presents a method for the optimal scheduling of pumped hydrostorage plant and a computer program which determines weekly operating schedules for a pumped hydrostorage plant by dynamic programming method.

  • This paper presents a dynamic programming sucdessive approximation algorithm for scheduling pumped storage hydro plants and shows how this method can be coordinated with the commitment of the thermal units of the system. The general object of operation of pumped hydrostorage plants is the minimization of the overall production cost and the maximization of generation reserves. The basic procedure used to obtain a combined pumped storage-unit commitment schedule is to execute the pumped storage scheduler and unit commitment scheduler iteratively. A combined DPSA algorithm has been presented to coordinate the scheduling of the pumped storage with the scheduling of the thermal units.

  • In this study we consider the problem of MPS(master production planning) of TFT-LCD(Thin Film Transistor - Liquid Crystal Display) production factory. Due to the complexities of the TFT-LCD production processes, it is difficult to build effective MPS. This study presents an algorithm having a concept of IDPQ(Ideal Daily Production Quantity) that considers line balancing of TFT-LCD production process. In general, the MPS building procedure does not consider line balancing in non-bottleneck processes. MPS without considering line balancing may make ineffective schedule. We present algorithms for building MPS considering factory capacity and line balancing according to the sales order.
