  • The purpose of the study was to find the effect of play-using assertion training program on elementary school children's self-expression, interpersonal relationship and self-efficacy. For the purpose of the study, the researcher sets hypotheses as follows. Hypothesis I : The play-using assertion training program has significant effect in elementary school children's self-expression. Hypothesis II : The play-using assertion training program has significant effect on elementary school children's interpersonal relationship. Hypothesis III: The play-using assertion training program has significant effect on elementary school children's self-efficacy. To verify these hypotheses, the researcher selected 10 students of 4th grade in C elementary school as a experimental group, and 11 students of 4th grade in O elementary school as a controlled group. Both schools are located at Boryoung, Chungnam. In the experimental group, the researcher administered the play-using assertion training program once a week for ten weeks. The play-using assertion training program are made by the researcher based on Jeon(1985) and Byoun and Kim(1980). To measure self-expression, the scale of self-expression made by Byoun & Kim(1980) was used. To measure interpersonal relationship, the scale of relationship change made by Schlin and Guerney(1971) was used. The scale was translated by Lee and Moon(1980). To measure self-efficacy, the scale of self-efficacy made by Han(2002) was used. The scale is based on Kim and Cha(1996) and Kim(1997). The result of the study is that the play-using assertion training program gives positive effects on students' self-expression, especially in physical area. Second, the play-using assertion training program gives positive effects on students' interpersonal relationship, especially in satisfaction, communication and friendliness. Third, the play-using assertion training program generally does not give positive effects on students' self-efficacy, but give significant effects on confidence and self-control efficacy which are sub-areas of self-efficacy.

  • The effects of the temporal scale of input hydrological data on runoff simulation have been studied using hydrological data with various time scales. TOPMODEL has been employed to explores these effects. The Genetic a1gorithm was used to calibrate model Parameters. The results of sensitivity analysis in various time scales provide the insight of parameter space for TOPMODEL operation of different time scale. The variation of temporal scale of input hydrological data appeared to have significant impacts on the model efficiency, average water table depth, the ratio of the surface runoff to the total runoff and the calibrated parameters. Generally, the longer the time scale, the more surface runoff and the less average water table death were calculated. It is found that the impact of lime scale to runoff simulation results from the structure of TOPMODEL and the hydrographic morphology.

  • Purpose : To investigate effects of transcranial directed current stimulus (tDCS) combined with abdominal draw-in maneuver (ADIM) on balance ability and trunk impairment scale of chronic stroke patients. Methods : Twenty-six chronic stroke patients were recruited and twenty-four participated after excluding two patients who met the exclusion criteria. After screening tests, they were randomized through excel program into an experimental group (n = 12) to apply a tDCS combined with ADIM and a control group (n = 12) to apply a sham tDCS with ADIM. The intervention lasted three times a week for six weeks. To compare tDCS intervention effects, trunk impairment scale and balance ability were measured. Comparisons between experimental and control groups were statistically processed using an independent t-test and comparisons within groups were statistically processed using a paired t-test. Results : The experimental group showed significant increases of pre- and post-intervention medial lateral velocity, anterior posterior velocity and area of balance ability, and trunk impairment scale (p<.05). The control group showed significant increases in pre- and post-intervention medial lateral velocity of balance ability and trunk impairment scale (p< .05). The experimental group showed significant increases of medial lateral velocity of balance ability and trunk impairment scale compared to the control group (p<.05). Conclusion : Results of this study suggest that tDCS combined with ADIM for chronic stroke patients can be effective in improving medial lateral velocity of balance ability and trunk impairment scale. Thus, tDCS can be used as an effective treatment protocol for trunk rehabilitation of chronic stroke patients.

  • Objectives : This study was performed to evaluate the effects of PTSD on memory function, to investigate the difference of memory function between PTSD and non-PTSD patients, and to identify major variables correlated to PTSD scale and Memory Assessment Scale. Methods: The authors used PTSD-scale(Mississippi scale and Combat Exposure Scale) for measuring PTSD severity. And, Beck Depression Inventory was also used. Memory assessment scale was assessed by well trained psychologist. Thirty one Vietnam veterans who had been hospitalized were collected consecutively. These patients were evaluated by psychiatrists with interview and measurement for fifteen months since March, 1997. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS and the stastistic methods used for analysis Chi-square, t-test, and Pearson's correlation. Results : 1) There were significant differences in short-term memory and verbal memory between PTSD and non-PTSD in Vietnam veterans. 2) Mississippi scale and Combat Exposure Scale were negatively correlated to short-term memory and verbal memory(Pearson's correlation). 3) Religion status was a significant variable between PTSD and non-PTSD in Vietnam veterans. 4) There is no significant difference in visual memory and total memory scale between PTSD and Non-PTSD in Vietnam veterans Conclusions : Neuropsychological changes were found in the posttraumatic stress disorder. There were significant differences in short-term memory and verbal memory between PTSD and non-PTSD in Vietnam veterans. Mississippi scale and Combat Exposure Scale were negatively correlated to short-term memory and verbal memory. We suggest that neuropsychological test might be used for an objective assessment of patients with the combat related PTSD and be considered helpful in the assessment of patients with the diagnosis. And we also suggest rehabilitation strategies would be used to compensate for memory deficits in PTSD patients.

  • This paper presents the results of a study that was undertaken to optimize the ratio of the components of a new multi-component inhibitor blend composed of orthophosphate/ phosphonates/ acrylate copolymer/ isothiazolone. The effects of newly developed inhibitor on carbon steel dissolution in synthetic cooling water were studied through weight loss tests, electrochemical tests, scale tests, and micro-organism tests. The obtained results were compared to blank (uninhibited specimen) and showed that developed inhibitor revealed very good corrosion, scale, and micro-organism inhibition simultaneously. All measurements indicated that the efficiency of the blended mixture exceeded 90 %. The inhibitive effects arose from formation of protective films which might contain calcium phosphate, calcium phosphonate, and iron oxide. The nature of protective films formed on the carbon steel was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and auger electron spe ctroscopy (AES). Inhibitor used in this study appeared to have better performance for scale inhibition due to their superior crystal modification effect and excellent calcium carbonate scale inhibition properties. The effect of inhibitor on microorganisms was evaluated through minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) test. All kinds of micro-organisms used in this study were inhibited under 78ppm concentration of inhibitor.

  • The effects of culture conditions on succinic acid production and its possible scale-up have been studied. Mannheimia succiniciproducens LPK7, engineered for enhanced production of succinic acid and reduced by-product secretion, was used for the experiments. Mannheimia succiniciproducens LPK7 is a knock-out strain of wild type deficient in the ldhA, pflB, and pta-ackA genes, and is derived from Mannheimia succiniciproducens MBEL55E. Process optimization of factors including optimal temperature, pH, carbon source, and nitrogen source was performed to enhance the production of succinic acid in flasks. To observe scale-up effects, batch fermentation was carried out at various working volumes. At a working volume of 7.0 l, the final succinic acid concentration and yield were 15.4g/l and 0.86g/g. This result shows similar amount of succinic acid obtained in lab-scale fermentation, and it is possible to scale up to larger fermentors without major problems.

  • This paper tries to analyze the efficiency structure and regulatory effects in electric power industry by using total factor productivity and indices based on cost function method. This paper performed an empirical analysis on the efficiency improvement and optimal scale taking the cost aspect in electricity industry into account. By expanding the cost structure framework, this paper proposes the analytical method regarding the needs of technology regulation and presents the empirical results which can be verified. Hence, this work can play a key role in decision-making of the national power development and regulatory policy. The empirical result indicates that the electricity industry in Korea has been in the state of economies of scale until 1980s, However, due to sustained growth of power generation, economies of scale declined and subsided after 1980s and then diseconomies of scale is shown recent years. The analysis on the effect of technology regulation shows the national large-scale base-load power plant development-oriented policy until so far contributed substantial cost effect to the electricity industry. The empirical result indicates that the reserve requirement as one of means of technology regulation policy did not contribute to the economies of scale but positive effect on the total factor productivity in Korea.

  • Since biosynthesis of lignin peroxidase from Phanerochaete chrysosporium was known to be sensitive to shear, it is interesting to understand the effects of the shear sensitivity for the overproduction of lignin peroxidase. In stirred-tank fermentor, the shear-sensitivity in lignin peroxidase biosynthesis was quantified by using Kolmogorov length scale. It was found that agitation at 80$\mu$m Kolmogorov length scale is advantageous for the production of lignin peroxidase from P. chrysosporium. To overcome the shear sensitivity in lignin peroxidase biosynthesis caused by the agitation,P. chrysosporium was immobilized on various solid carriers. The nylon-immobilized P. chrysosporium was chosen in the present study as a way to overcome the shear sensitivity at the ranges of above 50$\mu$m Kolmogorov length scale. The adhesion force between immobilized cell and carrier can be predicted by thermodynamic approach and used as a criteria to select an adequate carrier materials for immobilization.
