Subjects were 813 females of 10's to 40's living in Daejeon Metropolitan City and Gongju City, Chungchungnamdo. Results from this research revealed that the correlation of desire for aesthetic surgery with body satisfaction was negative so that female satisfying one's body shape didn't want to have aesthetic surgery. However, aesthetics and sexual attractiveness of clothing had positive correlations with body satisfaction. It was also shown that the need and self-esteem of female affected directly on the desire for aesthetic surgery and the pursuit of clothing aesthetics. Women with higher need for exhibition and dominance were not only concerned about the elevation of their appearance through their clothing but also recognized the value of modifying their appearance through aesthetic surgery. Women with higher self-esteem were interested in the elevation of their appearance through clothing, but the other hand, they showed negative attitude toward modifying their appearance via aesthetic surgery. This result revealed the fact that women with higher self-esteem had a tendency to keep the traditional sense of value and as a result, showed negative attitude toward the aesthetic surgery.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The obese population is rapidly increasing because of reduced physical activity and a Westernized diet; consequently, various chronic diseases are more prevalent. With the increasing interest in body shape and appearance, research on body shape perceptions and accompanying weight control behaviors are needed for healthy weight management. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted on randomly selected 536 (209 men and 327 women) aged 20 to 65 years. Body mass index (BMI), body-shape perception, weight control behavior, quality of sleep, and place of residence were collected using self-reported questionnaires. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was conducted using complex design in each groups. Collected data were analyzed using the SAS 9.4 statistical package, and the significance level was set at P < 0.05. RESULTS: When these two variables were divided into four groups, they were found to influence dieting attempts. People with abnormal weights who were dissatisfied with their body shapes attempted dieting 5.23 times more than those with healthy weights and satisfaction with their body shapes. Further, those with normal weights but dissatisfaction with their bodies attempted dieting 4.45 times more than those who were satisfied with their shapes. Subjects in their 20s attempted dieting 2.53 times more than those in their 30s and 40s, and female subjects attempted dieting 2.24 times more than male subjects. CONCLUSIONS: A correct perception of one's shape can be an important factor for dietary behavior, as body shape perceptions and dieting attempts are strongly related. Additionally, healthy weight management and nutrition education are important elements to incorporate into a weight control program aimed at preventing excessive weight control behaviors and promoting correct perceptions of body shape.

The prevalence of overweight was 14.0% of total students, 21.4% of mail students and 6.6 % of female students. 2. There were significant differences in the body shape satisfaction according to the state of obesity in total students(($chi^2$ = 110.31, p = .000), in mail students(($chi^2$ = 99.97, p = .000), in female students(($chi^2$ = 62.23, p = .000). The percentages of the body shape satisfaction were highest the underweight group in total and female students but in mail students the normal weight group was highest 3. There were significant differences in the body shape esteem according to the state of obesity in total students(F = 8.634, p = .000), in mail students(F = 11.738, p = .000), in female students(F = 4.502, p = .004). The mean scores of body shape esteem were highest the normal weight group in total students, overweight group in mail students and underweight group in female students. The higher the state of obesity was, the lower body shape esteem. 4. The relationships between body shape satisfaction, body shape esteem and obesity index were significant. There were significant differences in the state of obesity according to sex(($chi^2$ = 88.136, p = .000) and the perception of body shape(($chi^2$ = 242.371, p = .000) in total students. There were significant differences in the state of obesity according to the body shape of father(($chi^2$ = 15.11, p = .019), the perception of body shape(($chi^2$ = 138.95, p = .000) in mail students. • Recently, as custom-made demand about female underwear is increased, securing of a various dimension system is urgent, and satisfaction of each customer cannot be heightened with established dimensions. If we could measure shape of a living body with a fast and simple method, the custom-made demand of customers could be satisfied in the underwear as well as a clothing industry by using the method. One of the alternatives is shape measurement of the living body by a Moire fringe method. If we put a grating in front of an object to be measured and illuminate light, a Moire fringe with contour line shape is generated in the object, so we can conveniently measure object shape without touching directly by using the pattern. The Moire fringe and three-dimensional shape of the breast of the living body was acquired by a PMP method using a polygon mirror, and height and bottom width of the breast of the living body were measured by using obtained data in this study. Data of breast shape measurement through a mannequin was collected in a previous step as basic material for measuring the breast shape measurement of the living body. Three women in the twenties were selected as one of methods for measuring breast shape of a woman. As a result of the breast shape measurement of a living body A, it was measured that height of the breast was about 67.24mm and the bottom width was $13781.60mm^2$. This study is expected to contribute for collecting basic data of a female underwear industry and establishing a specification of a dimension system.

The subjects were 750 adolescents in Daejeon and Chungnam province. The research method was a survey and the measuring instruments consisted of appearance instrumentality, body satisfaction, appearance management behaviors, and subjects' demographics attributions. The data were analyzed by Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, factor analysis, cluster analysis, ${\chi}^2$ test, and t-test, using SPSS statistical program. The results were as follows. First, 3 dimensions(the utility of interpersonal relationship, social achievement and sexual partnership) were emerged on appearance instrumentality, and adolescents were divided into 2 groups(unreceptive and receptive group) by appearance instrumentality. Second, appearance instrumentality had significant effects on female adolescents' body satisfaction; receptive group was more dissatisfied with their bodies, especially weight, hip, abdomen, and body shape than unreceptive group. However, it had no significant effects on male adolescents' body satisfaction. • In this study, the fit of commercial sports bras was analyzed according to various design variations, focusing on the shape of the shoulder strap, which is known to cause great discomfort in wearing sports bras. Experimental clothes were set to four commercially available sports bras with different shoulder strap shapes. The results showed that, in "size suitability," the overall satisfaction with experimental clothing B, of which the shoulder strap can be adjusted, was the highest, especially for "underbust circ. fit," "bust circ. Fit," and "shoulder strap length." In the "Shape suitability" and "Wearability" sections, experimental clothing B also showed the highest satisfaction and the shoulder strap adjustment device did not negatively affect wearing satisfaction. In the question on "side wings rolled up," experimental clothing A also received a relatively good score, which is due to its long front length. In the "Compression of the front center" section, the responses for experimental clothing A and B were "appropriate" and for C and D, they were "pressurized." In "motion suitability" as well, satisfaction with experimental clothing B was the highest, followed by experimental clothes A, C, and D. In the "body shape correction" section, clothing B elicited the highest satisfaction, followed by experimental clothes A, C, and D, in that order. Overall, it is recommended that shoulder straps be applied with adjustable straps for the comfort of the shoulder area while wearing sports bras.
