Most researches have created the impervious surface map by using low-spatial-resolution satellite imagery and are inefficient to generate the object-based impervious map with a broad area. In this study, segment-based impervious surface mapping algorithm is proposed using the RapidEye satellite imagery in order to map impervious area. At first, additional bands are generated by using TOA reflectance conversion RapidEye data. And then, shadow and water class are extracted using training data of converted reflectance image. Object-based impervious surface can be generated by spectral mixture analysis based on land cover map of Ministry of Environment with medium scale, in the case of other classes except shadow and water classes. The experiment shows that result by our method represents high classification accuracy compared to reference data, quantitatively.

The aim of this Study is to suggest regional learning methods using Landsat ETM and IKONOS images in the 7th Social Studies Curriculum in high school. In the program of 10 grade social studies, curriculum is constructed on the focus of conceptual learning, excluded in practice and activities on the regional learning. Regional learning, which is to goal understanding of regional environments and establishment of identities, is an essential part in student's field work and investigation activities, but with difficulties in application of schooling in the present curriculum, intended to propose substitute methods with satellite images. This study suggests learning methods for perception of region with the resolution of satellite images. The results of the study may help to extend learning and interests on the geography with practical application to GIS and RS.

In this paper, the signal reception environment of the satellite communications was analyzed on urban, suburban and rural environment. The correct analysis of received environment is very important in the satellite communications because the presence of various attenuation factors. Analyze attenuation factor through the simulation and that apply to each receiving environment. The urban and suburban various received sensitivity is determined according to building height and density. Moreover, attenuation occurs in rural areas due to the mountainous and vegetation. In this paper, we analysis of variety receiving environment according to movement of the ground station and the satellites can be utilized to provide stable multimedia services.

For the Earth observation satellite for ISR mission, a satellite constellation can be utilized to observe a specific area periodically and ultimately increase the effectiveness of the mission. The Walker-Delta method was applied to design constellation orbits with four satellites, which could detect abnormal activities in AoI(Area of Interest). To evaluate the effectiveness of the mission, a revisiting time was selected as a key requirement. This paper presents the mission analysis process for four SAR satellites constellation as well as the result of constellation configuration design to meet the requirements. Figure of Merits analysis was performed based on algorithm developed. Finally, it was confirmed that the constellation orbit with four different orbital planes is likely to be appropriate for ISR mission.
Republic of Korea has established its performance-based navigation (PBN) implementation plan in 2010 for ensuring a smooth transition to PBN operations and relevant new flight procedures are being developed in accordance with the roadmap. Various Navigation aids (NAVAIDs) like global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), distance measuring equipment (DME), VHF omnidirectional range (VOR), inertial navigation system (INS) are used to support PBN procedures. Among them, GNSS would play a central role in PBN implementation. However, vulnerability of satellite navigation signals to artificial and natural interferences has been discovered and various alternative positioning, navigation and timing (APNT) technologies are under development in many countries. In this paper, we study whether continuous PBN operations can be achievable without GNSS signals. As a result, it shows that some of the domestic airports require the construction of APNT in the approach area.
Recently, GNSS users can utilize various navigation satellite thanks to GPS modernization, renewal of GLONASS, and development of Galileo and Beidou. And availability performance of users is expected to be improved because these new navigation satellites transmit L5 signal as well as L1 signal, and users can directly estimate the ionospheric delays. In accordance with these changes existing Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) which considers only GPS L1 signal is being developed to support dual frequency and multi-constellation GNSS users. This paper describes the main features of dual-frequency, multi-constellation SBAS algorithms and estimates the performance in Korean region by simulation.
In this paper, we analyze the most suitable RA method among PAMA, DAMA, and RA classified by the multiple access method of satellite communication in the rapidly changing traffic environment according to the emergency and tactical situation. It suggests an alternative to improve the limit of output degradation. Based on the CRDSA protocol selected as the standard of DVB-RCS2 among the current satellite communication methods, CRDSA2R (Contention) maintains an optimal RA channel environment by checking the limitations in an environment where packet volume is rapidly increasing and observing channel load and channel conditions. We propose a Resolution Diversity Slotted ALOHA with Adaptive Random Access.
In this paper, we propose interband vector quantization of remotely sensed satellite image using edge region compensation. This method classifies each pixel vector considering spectral reflection characteristics of satellite image data. For each class, we perform classified intraband VQ and classified interband VQ to remove intraband and interband redundancies, respectively. In edge region case, edge region is compensated using class information of neighboring blocks and gray value of quantized reference band. Then we perform classified interband VQ to remove interband, redundancy using compensated class information, effectively. Experiments on remotely sensed satellite image show that coding efficiency of the proposed method is better than that of the conventional method.

A histogram-based road border line extractor is proposed for an efficient road extraction from the high-resolution satellite imagery. The road border lines are extracted from an edge strength map based on the directional histogram difference between the road and the non-road region. The straight and the curved roads are extracted hierarchically from the edge strength map of the original image and the segmented road cluster images, and the road network is constructed based on the connectivity. Unlike the conventional approaches based on the spectral similarity, the proposed road extraction method is more robust to noise because it extracts roads based on the histogram, and is able to extract both the location and the width of roads. In addition, the proposed method can extract roads with various spectral characteristics by identifying the road clusters automatically. Experimental results on IKONOS multi-spectral satellite imagery with high spatial resolution show that the proposed method can extract the straight and the curved roads as well as the accurate road border lines.

BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS) is one of the four main types of global navigation satellite systems. The current system has been widely used by the military and by the aerospace, transportation, and marine fields, among others. However, challenges still remain in the BeiDou system, which requires rapid responses for delay-sensitive devices. A differential positioning algorithm called the data center-based differential positioning (DCDP) method is widely used to avoid the influence of errors. In this method, the positioning information of multiple base stations is uploaded to the data center, and the positioning errors are calculated uniformly by the data center based on the minimum variance or a weighted average algorithm. However, the DCDP method has high delay and overload risk. To solve these problems, this paper introduces edge computing to relieve pressure on the data center. Instead of transmitting the positioning information to the data center, a novel method called edge computing-based differential positioning (ECDP) chooses the nearest reference station to perform edge computing and transmits the difference value to the mobile receiver directly. Simulation results and experiments demonstrate that the performance of the ECDP outperforms that of the DCDP method. The delay of the ECDP method is about 500ms less than that of the DCDP method. Moreover, in the range of allowable burst error, the median of the positioning accuracy of the ECDP method is 0.7923m while that of the DCDP method is 0.8028m.
