The survey on the sanitary conditions to the water supply facilities, privy facilities and disposal methods of human excreta in Sindong area of Choonseung-gun, Kangwon Province was carried out during 7 months from May to November, 1976. The results of the survey are as follows. 1) The pump-wells are used in the 1,185 households as 66.7% of 1,775 and are almost private. 2) The materials of drainage floors and drainage are almost cement, and the drainages are good condition. 3) Most parts of dug-wells have been used beyond 9 years after installation, and disinfection of water has not been carried out in the case of 68.1% of total wells. 4) Objectives of water use to the number of households as 60.2% are drinking, kitchen and cleaning. 5) Water consumption per capita day is estimated to be about 22.7% litters. 6) 1,521 households as 85.7% of total 1,775 possess their private privies and the numbers as 80.6% of the private privies are located outside the houses. 7) The privies are needed to be improved much more in the view point of excreting to the ashpile instead of the septic tank in the case of 39.2% of total households. 8) Human excreta as manure are used to the field in the number of households as 82.4 of total 1,316.
2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene(TNT) was reduced into intermediate products by mixed culture incubated in anaerobic condition. To test the effects of extracellular material to electron transfer between sulfide and TNT, filtered medium of mixed culture was loaded in the test tubes with TNT and sulfide. The transformation rate was measured under four different conditions. The rate under microbial activity was the fastest among under different conditions. With sulfide or filtrate alone and TNT, the reactions were measured as the slowest reactions or no reactions occured, respectively. The reaction rate coefficient were calculated by linear regression and the first order kinetic was fitted best. Also, the plot of rate coefficients (K$_{f}$) showed linear relationships when at time zero TNT and sulfide concentration were 20 mg/1 and 6.0 mM, respectively. By extrapolation, reaction rate coefficient of 100% filtrate could be calculated as 0.0054/minute. However, reaction rate was affected by different concentration of sulfide, so it is a dependent of sulfide concentration. The results of this test showed TNT reduction rate can be limited more by microbial reaction than by mediation of filtrate or sulfide and filtrate alone.
The Purpose of this study is to reduce environmental problems caused by landfill of bituminous coal fly ash emitted from the power plant and to reuse it. First of all, we experimented that Al and Si elements were extracted from fly ash and investigated that extracted Al and Si elements night use a coagulant. The extraction was carried out under various conditions ; concentration of the extraction solution, calcination temperature and calcination time. As the results, it was found that the optimum conditions of the extraction of Al and Si elements from fly ash were as follows, concentration of NaOH was 5N for both of them, calcination temperature was $700^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$ and calcination time was 1hr and 1.5hr, respectively The extracted solution was used as a coagulant to treat the diluted metal-plating solutions which contained Pb and Cu, respectively. As the result of treatment on the diluted Pb-plating solution with 315NTU, the removal efficiency of turbidity was more than 90%, and the removal efficiency of Pb was about 80%. As for treatment of the non-turbid diluted Cu-plating solution, the removal efficiency of Cu was about 98%.
Design data for COD and nitrogen removal from wastewater were collected from Pilot's Multi-stage Bio-reactor. Hyraulic conditions and pollutant loadings were varied in order to optimize the biological and operational parameters. Pilot's experimental results summarize as followings. 1. T-N removal efficiency in the organic volumetric loading 0.2 kgCOD/m$^{3}$·d was obtained as maxium of 85% at internal recycle ratio 2.5 and in more ratio than this it was decreased. Organic removal efficiency was about 91% under the overall experimental conditions and not influenced by recycle ratio.. 2. Nitrification reaction was shown as maxium in the SCOD$_{cr}$/NH$^{+}$-N ratio of 6.5 and in more ratio than this it was decreased. Denitrification rate was the maxium as 85% in more than 7.5 of SCOD$_{cr}$/NO$_{x}$-N ratio and in the ratio over this ratio it becomes constant. 3. By utilizing an applied new model of Stover-Kincannon from Monod's kinetic model, concentration of T-N in the effluent according to flow quanity in the influent was estimated as 8.74 and -67.5 respectively. The formula for estimating T-N concentration of effluent was obtained like this: N$_e$=N$_0$(1- $\frac{8.74}{(QN$_0$/A)-67.05}$)
The calcination reactivity of limestone and physical property changes of calcined lime were investigated with a temperature($720~1000^{\circ}C$ under atmospheric gas($N_2$, $CO_2$) conditions. The mechanisms of mass transport in a lime matrix were represented by the evaporation and condensation (${\gamma}=1.7$) at $1000^{\circ}C$ and the volume diffusion (${\gamma}=2.7$) at $800^{\circ}C$, which was obtained by the specific surface area of calcined lime with sintering conditions. Also, the effect of physical property on the reactivity of sulfation reaction was determined by the changes of pore size with $lime-SO_2$ reaction in this work. The initial sulfation rate of calcined lime increased with increasing temperature, whereas the capture capacity of $SO_2$ exhibited a maximum value at $900^{\circ}C$. The pore volume of sulfated lime was decreased with increasing sulfation time, but the major pores shifted to the distribution of larger size at a temperature of $850{\;}~{\;}1000^{\circ}C$. The mean pore size of sulfated lime based on pore volume decreased gradually at $1000^{\circ}C$; however, it increased with sulfation time up to 40 min and rapidly decreased thereafter.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate microbiological quality for each stage of the kimbap manufacturing process in summer and winter. Under the various controlled conditions through the simulation, the time-temperature data were collected and the microbiological quality(including total plate count, coliforms, and fecal coliform count) were evaluated. To determine the expected shelf life of Kimbap, a microbiolgical analysis according to the length of the storage time was performed. The microbiological analysis on both sanitary and unsanitary utensils was compared. The microbiological quality of the raw materials of Kimbap in summer was not at an acceptable level, but that of the heat-treated raw materials of Kimbap met the requirement according to the standards set by the Natick Research Center. The number of the microorganisms of the unsanitary utensils and the Kimbap made from unsanitary utensils was more than the acceptable criteria. Sanitary management is necessary to prohibit cross-contamination and to manufacture Kimbap safely. Results from storage times and storage temperature conditions(chilled and room-temperature storage) showed that the expected shelf-life of the Kimbap with the room-temperature storage was as less than 3 hours in summer, while it was as 7-10 hours in winter.
In this study, the synthesis of PZT powder by bubble column reactor was investigated at various reaction conditions. As a result, the volume % of $NH_3$ gas used as a precipitator had no effect on the synthesis, but the more research is needed to control particle size.As a carrier gas, Ar, $O_2$ and air only increased the stirring effect but had no effect chemically on the synthesis. The calcination temperature of prepared PZT powder was about $500-600^{\circ}C$ and the meanparticle size of synthesized PZT powder was about $0.17{\mu}m$. The grain size of sintered body is about $0.5~3{\mu}m$ and this is similar with the value of commercial products.
The effectiveness of resting cells of a photosynthetic bacterium, Rhodospirillum rubrum N-1, was investigated on the production of extracellular ${\delta}-aminolevulinic$ acid(ALA). The ALA generating system required 3hr-incubation in the presence of 10mg of resting cells per ml to obtain the maximal yield of extracellular ALA. and also, under this condition the effect of ALA inducers, i.e., 30mM levulinic acid (LA) and L-glutamic acid($C_5$ pathway precursor) was relatively higher than that of produced extracellular ALA($83{\mu}M$). The volume of system and proper cell density appeared to be important factors for the effective production of extracellular ALA.
The ion exchange resins have been synthesized from chlormethyl styrene-1,4-divinyl benzene(DVB) with 1%, 5%, and 10%-crosslinking and macrocyclic ligand of cryptand type by copolymerization method and the adsorption characteristics of uranium(VI), lead(II) and holmium(III) ions have been investigated in various experimental conditions. The correlation between the adsorption characteristics of rare earths and transition metal on the resins and stability constants of complexes with macrocyclic ligand have been examined. The $UO_2^{2+}$ aqueous solutions are not adsorbed on the resins below pH 3.0, but the power of adsorption of $UO_2^{2+}$ increased rapidly above pH 4.0. The adsorption power was in the order of 1%, 10%, and 5%-crosslinked resin, but adsorptive characteristics of resins decreased in proportion to the order of dielectric constants of solvents.
This study was carried out to examine the compressive strength characteristics of solids solidified with the lead sludge with mixture of cement and fly ashes as additive. And the additives are commercial fly ash and ESP(Electrostatic precipitator) fly ash. The compressive strength of solidified lead sludge solid was increased by adding fly ash up to 46~62%, which was the results of pozzolanic reaction. When replaced the cement with 10%of commercial fly ash, the solid showed the highest value $210{\;}kg/cm^2$, and the solidification conditions were 0.55 of the water/cement ratio and curing for 14 days. Also, the results of leaching test by EPT(Environmental Protection Agency-Toxicity Test) were showed that the solidified lead has leached out under 10%, which was less than 0.173 mg/L of EPA standard. As leaching solutions, the demineralized water, 0.1N acetic acid solution, and synthetic brine were used. and the observations by SEM of the solidified lead-laden solid after EPT leaching test were indicated the severe erosion on solid surface.
