In this paper, we investigate the time-sampling effects on the digital implementation of singular perturbation based STT autopilot with excellent performance and propose a compensation method for the time-sampling effects. In digitization of analog STT autopilot, it is found that the stability margin of the fast dynamics is mostly affected to lead to rapid decrease. Under the this analysis, a composite digital controller with additional compensator for fast dynamics is proposed to improve the time-sampling effect and a simulation verifies the result.

The effects of time-sampling to be considered in digital implementation of a nonlinear output regulator is investigated. It is found that the output regulatability of nonlinear systems is generally not robust with respect to time-sampling although the output regulatedness of nonlinear systems is preserved under time-sampling. Also, a certain class of nonlinear systems is clarified for which the preservation of the output regulatability under time-sampling can be decided without difficulty. These results imply that one needs to seek a better approximate sampled-data nonlinear output regulator since a digital output regulator resulting from discretizing the continuous-time nonlinear output regulator designed based on the underlying continuous-time nonlinear system model is nothing but a 1st order approximate one with respect to sampling-time.

In general, the solvability of linear robust output regulation problem are not preserved under time-sampling. Thus, it is found that the digital regulator implemented by time-sampling of analog output regulator designed based on the continuous-time linear system model is nothing but a 1st order approximation with respect to time-sampling. However, one can design an improved sampled-data regulator with respect to sampling time by utilizing teh intrinsic structure of the system. In this paper, we study the system structures for which it is possible to design an improved sampled-data regulator with respect to sampling time.
Recent controller design techniques often discretize the target system and implement a discrete controller that is digitized to match the target system. When constructing such a discrete system, it is necessary to first determine the sampling time. The smaller the sampling time is, the more advantageous it can be made similar to the original system, but the cost is a problem when realizing such a configuration as hardware. On the other hand, the longer the time, the more different the system is from the original system, and eventually the control becomes impossible. In this paper, we consider the above problem and propose a more logical approach to determine the sampling time in the discrete system and investigate the relation with the differential controller. We also apply this process to a nonlinear system called ARAGO disc and verify its validity through computer simulation.

This study takes over the application of survey sampling theory to activity sampling and the application of activity sampling to time standard estimation. Cluster, stratified, and multistage sampling are studied in conjunction with random and systematic sampling. Estimation procedures that will maximize the information obtained per cost expended on the study and specification of the procedure to be used to estimate the accuracy of the estimates for the adopted procedure are considered. The use of multiple regression md linear programming to estimate standard element performance time from typical job lot production data is also considered.

This study aims to investigate the effect of sampling frequency to the time domain and frequency domain analysis of pulse rate variability (PRV). Typical time domain variables - AVNN, SDNN, SDSD, RMSSD, NN50 count and pNN50 - and frequency domain variables - VLF, LF, HF, LF/HF, Total Power, nLF and nHF - were derived from 7 down-sampled (250 Hz, 100 Hz, 50 Hz, 25 Hz, 20 Hz, 15 Hz, 10 Hz) PRVs and compared with the result of heart rate variability of 10 kHz-sampled electrocardiogram. Result showed that every variable of time domain analysis of PRV was significant at 25 Hz or higher sampling frequency. Also, in frequency domain analysis, every variable of PRV was significant at 15 Hz or higher sampling frequency.
The variable sampling rates scheme is proposed by taking random sample size and sampling interval during the process. The performance of the scheme is measured in terms of the average time to signal adjusted by teh sampling cost when the process is out of control. This measurement evaluates the effectiveness of the scheme in terms of the cost incurred due to nonconformation as well as sampling. The variable sampling rates scheme is shown to be effective especially for small and moderate shifts of the mean when compared to the standard scheme.
A spectral formalism was applied to quantify the sampling errors due to spatial and/or temporal gaps in soil moisture measurements. The lack of temporal measurements of the two-dimensional soil moisture field makes it difficult to compute the spectra directly from observed records. Therefore, the space-time soil moisture spectra derived by stochastic models of rainfall and soil moisture was used in their record. Parameters for both models were tuned with Southern Great Plains Hydrology Experiment(SGP'97) data and the Oklahoma Mesonet data. The structure of soil moisture data is discrete in space and time. A design filter was developed to compute the sampling errors for discrete measurements in space and time. This filter has the advantage in its general form applicable for all kinds of sampling designs. Sampling errors of the soil moisture estimation during the SGP'97 Hydrology Experiment period were estimated. The sampling errors for various sampling designs such as satedlite over pass and point measurement ground probe were estimated under the climate condition between June and August 1997 and soil properties of the SGP'97 experimental area. The ground truth design was evaluated to 25km and 50km spatial gap and the temporal gap from zero to 5 days.
Time-selective self-triggering water sampler, AUTTLE developed by Jin et al. (1999) has been improved in order to prevent pre-deposition of suspended sediments (SS) before sampling. By using two solenoids, the improved sampler is able to be moored or deployed with inclination. Its position is changed to horizontal position by activating the first solenoid, and then the endcaps of the sampling bottle are closed by the second solenoid that is driven three times to minimize possible failure of sampling. An external control unit for setting sampling time has been also constructed. Additionally, the electric circuit housing of the sampler has been modified to be detached from the sampling bottle when operating manually. Its performance has been confirmed through flume tests and a field experiment. It will serve as a valuable tool in the various fields of oceanography and environmental engineering, especially where seawater sampling synchronized at several sites and/or the information in storm period is important.

In this research we investigate motion controller performance for mobile robots according to changes in the control loop sampling time. As a result, we suggest a proper range of the sample time, which can minimize final posture errors while improving tracking capability of the controller. For controller implementation into real mobile robots, we use a smooth and continuous motion controller, which can respect robot's path curvature limitation. We examine motion control performance in experimental tests while changing the control loop sampling time. Toward this goal, we compare and analyze experimental results using two different mobile robot platforms; one with real-time control and powerful hardware capability and the other with non-real-time control and limited hardware capability.
