  • We investigate the design of an interpolation filter of a MF-TDMA demodulator which is applied to DVB-RCS. If sampling is not synchronized to the data symbols, timing adjustment in digital receiver must be performed by interpolation. It is impossible that conventional sinc interpolation filter coefficients are actually extended to infinity. We propose a Kaiser window interpolation filter and a sinc interpolation filter using th Kaiser window. Simulation results show that the performance improvement is realized by employing the proposed interpolation filter.

  • In this study, we have proposed a sampling method and an estimation method for efficiently estimating the mean of a population which has a linear trend. These methods involve drawing a sample by the so-called "centered balanced systematic sampling", which is an extension of systematic sampling, and then estimating the population mean with an adjusted estimator, not with the sample mean itself. We used the concept of interpolation in determining the adjusted estimator.\Ve compared the efficiency of the proposed estimator with those of the estimators from existing methods, under the expected mean square error criterion based on the infinite superpopulation model introduced by Cochran(1946). The proposed method is for use in the case when the sample size n(2 5) is an odd number and k(the reciprocal of the sampling fraction) is an even number. A good result was also obtained in an example using computer simulation. simulation.

  • It is known that the accuracy of DEM is related with terrain morphology, sampling density, and interpolation method. However, the theoretical reasons for these correlations have rarely been accounted for so far. This study aimed to verify a theoretical basis that DEM accuracy can be assessed based on approximation theory when we generate a DEM using lots of precise and accurate source data such as digital maps and LIDAR data.

  • In this paper, an 1.8V 12-bit 10MSPS CMOS A/D converter (ADC) is described. The architecture of the proposed ADC is based on a folding and interpolation using an even folding technique. For the purpose of improving SNR, cascaded-folding cascaded-interpolation technique, distributed track and hold are adapted. Further, a digital encoder algorithm is proposed for efficient digital process. The chip has been fabricated with $0.18{\mu}m$ 1-poly 4-metal n-well CMOS technology. The effective chip area is $2000{\mu}m{\times}1100{\mu}m$ and it consumes about 250mW at 1.8V power supply. The measured SNDR is about 46dB at 10MHz sampling frequency.

  • This work presents a fully analog baseline wander tracking and removal circuitry using high-pass filter (HPF) based R-peak detection and quadratic interpolation that does not require digital post processing, thus suitable for compact and low power long-term ECG monitoring devices. The proposed method can effectively track and remove baseline wander in ECG waveforms corrupted by various motion artifacts, whereas minimizing the loss of essential features including the QRS-Complex. The key component for tracking the baseline wander is down sampling the moving average of the corrupted ECG waveform followed by quadratic interpolation, where the R-peak samples that distort the baseline tracking are excluded from the moving average by using a HPF based approach. The proposed circuit is designed using CMOS 0.18-㎛ technology (1.8V supply) with power consumption of 19.1 ㎼ and estimated area of 15.5 ㎟ using a 4th order HPF and quadratic interpolation. Results show SNR improvement of 10 dB after removing the baseline wander from the corrupted ECG waveform.

  • When we wish to estimate the mean or total of a finite population, the numbering of the population units is of importance. In this paper, we have proposed two methods for estimating the mean or total of a population having a linear trend, for the case when the reciprocal of the sampling fraction is an even number and the sample size is an odd number. The first method involves drawing a sample by using a method which is a generalization of Singh et al's (1968) modified systematic sampling, and using interpolation in determining the estimator. The second method involves selecting a sample by modified systematic sampling, and estimating the population parameters by the regression estimation method. Under the criterion of the expected mean square error based on Cochran's (1946) infinite superpopulation model, the proposed methods have been compared with existing methods. We have also made a comparison between the two proposed methods.

  • Linear interpolation is a basic sampling method for volume visualization. This method generates good images but sometimes it is inferior to our high expectation because it is encouraged to produce high quality images in the medical applications. In this paper, B spline based tri-cubic interpolation is used for the re-sampling step. The conventional B spline is an approximation method which does not cross control points so that we moved the control points and the curve crosses the original control points. In the rendering step, the empty space leaping is applicable to increase rendering speed. We have to calculate the maximum and minimum values for each block to detect empty space. The convex hull property of B spline enables the values of control points to be used as the maximum and minimum values. As a result, tri-cubic interpolated volume rendering is possible in interactive speed.

  • The sub-Nyquist nonuniform sampling (SNNS) and the perfect reconstruction (PR) formula are proposed for the development of a systematic method to obtain minimal representation of a speech signal. In the proposed method, the instantaneous sampling frequency (ISF) varies, depending on the least upper boundary of spectral support of a speech signal in time-frequency domain (TFD). The definition of the instantaneous bandwidth (IB), which determines the ISF and is used for generating the set of samples that represent continuous-time signals perfectly, is given. Also, the spectral characteristics of the sampled data generated by the sub-Nyquist nonuniform sampling method is analyzed. The proposed method doesn't generate the redundant samples due to the time-varying property of the instantaneous bandwidth of a speech signal.

  • In this research, a 8-bit CMOS 2 stage folding A/D converter is designed, For low power consumption and small chip size, the A/D converter is designed by using folding and interpolation circuit. Folding circuit is composed of the transistor differential pairs which are connected in parallel. It reduces the number of comparator drastically. The analog block composed of folding block, current interpolation circuit, and three stage current comparator is designed with differential-mode for high speed operation. The simulation in a $0.35\;{\mu}m$ CMOS process. shows DNL and SNDR of 0.5LSB and 47 dB at 250 MHz/s sampling frequency.

  • In this research, a novel sampling strategy for a CMM to inspect freeform surfaces is proposed. Unlike primitive surfaces, it is not easy to determine the number of sampling points and their locations for inspecting freeform surfaces. Since a CMM operates with slower speed in measurement than optical measuring devices, it is important to optimize the number and the locations of sampling points in the inspection process. When a complete inspection of a surface is required, it becomes more critical. Among various factors to cause shape errors of a final product, curvature characteristic is essential due to its effect such as stair-step errors in rapid prototyping and interpolation errors in NC tool paths generation. Shape errors are defined in terms of the average and standard deviation of differences between an original model and a produced part. Proposed algorithms determine the locations of sampling points by analyzing curvature distribution of a given surface. Based on the curvature distribution, a surface area is divided into several sub-areas. In each sub-area, sampling points are located as further as possible. The optimal number of sub-areas. In each sub-area, sampling points are located as further as possible. The optimal number os sub-areas is determined by estimating the average of curvatures. Finally, the proposed method is applied to several surfaces that have shape errors for verification.
