Inhibitory Effects of S-Allylmercaptocysteine Derived from Aged Garlic on Cholesterol Biosynthesis in Hepatocytes

  • 마늘 숙성 중 생성되는 S-allylmercaptocysteine의 콜레스테롤 생합성 억제 효과에 대하여 Hepatocytes를 이용하여 조사하였다. HepG2 cells을 Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium (DMEM)에 배양하여 S-allylmercaptocysteine의 농도를 20, 40, 60, 80 및 100 mL 씩 각각 첨가하여 cell viability를 살펴본 결과 20~40 ${\mu}g/mL$에서는 높았으며, 60 ${\mu}g/mL$ 농도에서 약 50%가 유지되었다. S-allylmercaptocysteine을 5, 10, 15 및 20 ${\mu}g/mL$ 농도로 [$^{14}C$]-acetatecholesterol에서 처리하였을 경우 15 ${\mu}g/mL$ 농도에서 cholesterol 생합성이 79%로 억제되었다. Fatty acid synthase의 활성은 0.95 nmol에서 19%의 억제효과를 나타내었으나, Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH)의 활성에는 거의 영향을 미치지 않았다. S-allylmercaptocysteine의 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl CoA (HMG-CoA) reductase의 활성은 용량 의존형으로 감소하였다. 이상의 결과로 보아 마늘 숙성 과정에서 생성되는 주요 성분인 S-allylmercaptocysteine은 간 세포에서 cholesterol의 생합성을 억제하는데 기여하는 것으로 나타났다.

일부(一部) 생명보험(生命保險) 가입자(加入者)의 혈청총(血淸總)콜레스테롤치(値)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (A Study of the Serum Total Cholesterol Levels of the Healthy Insured Group)

  • The serum total cholesterol levels were measured by Rosenthal modified method for the insured persons who had passed the medical examination in a life insurance company, Seoul. The sera were obtained from 1,878 adults, 626 males and 1,252 fermales, from sep 1980 to Dec. 1981. The results obtained in the measurement were as follows; 1. The mean and standard deviation of serum cholesterol level in the healthy insured persons were $163{\pm}$ in male, and $157{\pm}24mg%$ in female. The difference of the values between male and female showed statistical signifi- (p<0.01). With regard to sex and age differences, female were significantly higher than male in the 10's, and male were higher than female in the 20's and 50's between both sexes. 2. The cholesteol of male was gradully increased about 12mg% according to the increase of every 10-year interval, but no increase was observed from the 40's to the 50's. The cholesterol level of female was higher in the 10's than in the 20's, and was increased gradually from the 20's to the 50's. 3. No significant difference in serum total cholesterol levels between the insured persons and other normal Korean groups was observed; the frequency distribution of the cholestrol level for the population showed normal distribution.

Lactobacillus sporogenes에 의한 혈중 Cholesterol의 저하 (Lowering of Serum Sholesterol by Lactobacillus sporogenes)

  • The increase in the serum cholesterol level of the rabbit fed a high cholesterol diet was prevented by the administration of a Lactobacillus sporogenes preparation, proportionally to the amount of the preparation. About 90% of the increase in the serum cholesterol level was inhibited in the rabbits fed the preparation (2%) as feed additives. In vitro, L. sporogenes cultured in MRS broth containing PPLO serum fraction as a cholesterol source decreased the cholesterol concentration in the spent broth and increased the intracellular cholesterol concentration. The ability of L. sporogenes to accumulate cholesterol was enhanced by the presence of oxgall in the medium. These results suggest that L. sporogenes may directly assimilate the cholesterol in the gastrointestinal tracts and may prevent the increase of the serum cholesterol level.

한국 성인에서 혈청 중성지방/고밀도 콜레스테롤, 총 콜레스테롤/고밀도 콜레스테롤, 저밀도 콜레스테롤/고밀도 콜레스테롤 비와 심혈관 질환 위험요인들과의 관련성: 2016년도 국민건강영양조사 자료를 이용하여 (The Relationship Between Serum Triglyceride/HDL Cholesterol, Total Cholesterol/HDL Cholesterol, LDL Cholesterol/HDL Cholesterol Ratios and Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors in Korean Adults: Using the 2016 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey Data)

  • Purpose : The lipid profile is a major predictive index for cardiovascular disease, but there have only been a few studies conducted on the relationship between lipid ratio and cardiovascular disease risk factors in the Korean population. To address this research gap, we investigated the association between three lipid ratios and cardiovascular disease risk factors among Korean adults. Methods : This study used data from the seventh Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted in 2016. Lipid ratios included triglyceride (TG)/high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), total cholesterol (TC)/HDL, and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL)/HDL. Cardiovascular risk factors included in this research were: systolic blood pressure $(SBP){\geq}140$, diastolic blood pressure $(DBP){\geq}90$, fasting blood sugar $(FBS){\geq}126$, $HbA1c{\geq}6.5$, body mass index $(BMI){\geq}25$, waist circumference (WC) $men{\geq}90$, $women{\geq}85$, and metabolic syndrome (MetS). A complex samples logistic regression test was performed to analyze the association between lipid ratios and cardiovascular disease risk factors. Results : 1) TG/HDL ratio had statistically significant relationships with DBP, FBS, HbA1c, BMI, WC and MetS. 2) TC/HDL ratio was correlated to SBP, DBP, FBS, BMI, WC, and MetS. 3) LDL/HDL ratio had association with BMI, WC, and MetS. Conclusion : We identified significant association between lipid ratios and cardiovascular disease risk factors. The three lipid ratios were particularly strongly associated with BMI, WC, and MetS.

베타사이클로덱스트린 처리에 의한 콜레스테롤 저하 블록형 가공치즈의 특성 (Properties of Cholesterol-reduced Block-type Process Cheese Made by Crosslinked β-Cyclodextrin)

  • The objective of the present study was to compare the chemical, rheological and sensory properties of regular process cheese (control) and cholesterol-reduced block-type process cheese. The cholesterol-reduced process cheese was made by accelerated ripened cholesterol-reduced Cheddar cheese and cholesterol-reduced butter treated by crosslinked $\beta$-cyclodextrin ($\beta$-CD). The composition of the block-type process cheese was similar to the control cheese. Approximately 91.0% of cholesterol removal was observed when treated by crosslinked $\beta$-CD. The production of total free amino acids was significantly higher in cholesterol-reduced process cheese in all storage periods compared with those in the control. In sensory analysis, a significantly higher score of acidic, salty and bitterness. and lower score of elasticity were found. However, no difference was found in free fatty acids, rheological properties, and TBA test between the control and cholesterol-reduced process cheese. Therefore, the present study indicated that even though some of the significant difference was observed in sensory properties in the cholesterol-reduced block-type process cheese, most of chemical and rheological properties were comparable to the control process cheese.

1962년부터 1995년까지 한국인의 혈청콜레스테롤 농도와 콜레스테롤 섭취량의 연차적 변화 (Annual Changes in Cholesterol Intake and Serum Cholesterol Level of Korean from 1962 to 1995 Year)

  • To estimate annual changes in age adjusted mean of serum cholesterol and cholesterol intake in Korea during the past years, data from 21 literatures regarding for serum cholesterol level of Korean or National Nutrition Survey Reports from 1962 to 1995 were extracted for this study. Age standardization for mean serum cholesterol level was adjusted being based on Korean population composition in 1995. Mean of Korean serum cholesterol level depicted an increasing tendency from 1962 to 1995. Magnitude of changes in mean of serum cholesterol was big in the age old groups over 60th decade, but sex difference in the pattern was not observed. The estimated mean cholesterol intake was higher in the urban population than those of rural's and it increased linearly from 1969 to 1995. Major food sources for cholesterol were egg(39.3%), anchovy(8.3%), seafoods(35.2%) meat(13%) in 1995. From the results, it was estimated that mean serum cholesterol and daily cholesterol intake of Korean would be 178 mg/dl and 278mg/day in 1995, respectively.

성별 허리둔부둘레비, 체지방율, 체질량지수, 비체중과 혈청지질 간의 상관관계 (Correlations Between Waist-Hip Ratio, Body Fat, BMI(Body Mass Index), Relative Body Weight and Serum Lipids by Men and Women)

  • This study aims at examining the correlations between waist-hip ratio, body fat, BMI, relative body weight and serum lipids by men and women in 40's and 50's. The subjects were 412 adults, who had regular health examinations between January and December of 1996 at S-Hospital in Seoul. The data were analyzed using unpaired t -test and Pearson correlation coefficient. The results were as follows : 1. The group of men had higher levels in waist-hip ratio, BMI, body weight , triglyceride, total cholesterol /HDL-cholesterol ratio , LDL-cholesterol /HDL-cholesterol ratio than the group of women. The group of women had higher levels in body fat and HDL-cholesterol than the group of men. 2. In the group of men, waist-hip ratio was more significantly correlated to serum lipids than body fat and BMI. In the group of women, body fat, BMI and relative body weight was more significantly correlated to serum lipids than waist-hip ratio.

Effects of the Zizyphus jujuba Seed Extract on the Lipid Components in Hyperlipidemic Rats

  • The purpose of this study was designed to observe the effects of Zizyphus jujuba seed extract on the concentrations of the lipids and blood glucose in the S.D. rats fed the experimental diets for 4 weeks. Concentrations of total cholesterol, atherosclerotic index, LDL, LDL-cholesterol, free-cholesterol, cholesteryl ester, triglyceride (TG), phospholipid (PL) and blood glucose in serum were significantly higher in the cholesterol administration groups (group 2 (cholesterol+water), group 3 (cholesterol+Zizyphus jujuba seed extract)) than those in the control group (group 1, basal diet+water). But the concentrations of total cholesterol, atherosclerotic index, LDL, LDL-cholesterol, free-cholesterol, cholesteryl ester, TG, PL and blood glucose in serum ware remarkably lower in the group 3 than those in the group 2. In the ratio of HIDL-cholesterol concentration to total cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol concentration, Zizyphus jujuba seed extract administration group was higher percentage than in the group 2. The activities of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine amino-transferase (ALT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in serum were rather lower in the Zizyphus jujuba seed extract administration group (group 3) than in the cholesterol diet group (group 2). From the above research, Zizyphus jujuba seeds were effective on the improvement of the blood glucose, lipid compositions in serum of dietary hyperlipidemic rats. And particularly, Zizyphus jujuba seeds were more effective as a therapeutic regimen for the control of metabolic derangements in adult disease.

콜레스테롤과 비타민 $D_2$ 첨가 사료로 유도된 흰쥐의 고지혈증에 대한 Taurine의 효과 (Effect of Taurine on Hyperlipidemic Rats Fed Cholesterol and Vitamin $D_2$ containing Diet)

  • Antihyperlipidemic effect of taurine was investigated in the hyperlipidemic rats induced by feeding a diet supplemented with cholesterol (1.5% in diet), vitamin $D_2$(1.25 million IU/kg of diet) and cholic acid (0.5% in diet). The rats were fed the diet containing 1% and 3% of taurine for 8 weeks. The contents of the cholesterol and triglycerides in the serum and liver of the hyperlipidemic rats were increased as compared with those of the control group. Feeding taurine resulted in decreases in total cholesterol and triglyceride levels. The HDL-cholesterol level in serum was decreased in the hyperlipidemic rats, but by administration of taurine its level was increased. In the aorta of the animals, total cholesterol and triglycerides contents were reduced significantly by treatment with taurine. The contents of calcium in the heart of hyperlipidemic rats were greatly increased as compared with those of the control group. Treatment of taurine produced significant decreases in calcium contents in the heart muscle of the animals. These results showed that the hyperlipidemic states in this model of rats were reversed by treatment of taurine.
