Structural and photovoltaic properties of epitaxial rutile and anatase filmes (Epitaxial하게 증착된 rutile-$TiO_2$와 anatase-$TiO_2$ 박막의 구조적 성질과 광전 성질에 대한 연구)

  • Epitaxial rutile-$TiO_2$ and anatase-$TiO_2$ films were grown at $800^{\circ}C$ on $Al_2O_3$ (1102) and $LaAlO_3$ (001), respectively, using pulsed laser deposition. The formation of different phases on different substrates could be qualitatively explained by the atomic arrangements at the interfaces. We also successfully deposited epitaxial rutile-$TiO_2$ and anatase-$TiO_2$ films on conductive $RuO_2$ and $La_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}CoO_{3}$ electrodes, respectively. Using a Kelvin probe, we measured the photovoltaic properties of these multilayer structures. A rutile-$TiO_2$ film grown on $RuO_2$ showed a very broad peak in the visible light region. An epitaxial anatase-$TiO_2$ film grown on $La_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}CoO_{3}$ showed a strong peak with a threshold energy of 3.05 eV.

  • A selective chlorination of titaniferrous magnetite in a fluidized bed reactor was investigated to find the optimum condition for selective removal of Fe component from low grade titaniferrours magnetite ore and to produce a rutile substitute from titaniferrous magnetite ore. The optimum chlorination condition was determined to be a temperaure of $950^{\circ}C$, 2hr of reaction time, reducting agent(petroleum coke) to titaniferrous magnetite weight ratio of 0.12, and $Cl_2$ gas velocity of 5cm/sec. Under the above mentioned condition, 99% of Fe in titaniferrous magnetite was removed and the reaction residue which became rutile substitute was identified as rutile by x-ray diffraction and was found to contain 70% $TiO_2$.

Occurrence and Chemical Composition of W-Bearing Rutile from the Unsan Au Deposit (운산 금 광상에서 산출되는 함 텅스텐 금홍석의 산상과 화학조성)

  • The Unsang gold deposit has been one of the three largest deposits (Daeyudong and Kwangyang) in Korea. The deposit consists of Au-bearing quartz veins filling fractures along fault zones in Precambrian metasedimentary rock and Jurassic Porphyritic granite, which suggests that it might be an orogenic-type. Based on its mineral assemblages and quartz textures, quartz veins are classified into 1)galena-quartz, 2)pyrrhotite-quartz, 3)pyrite-quartz, 4)pegmatic quartz, 5)muscovite-quartz, and 6)simple quartz vein types. The pyrite-quartz vein type we studied shows the following alteration features: sericitization, chloritization, and silicification. The quartz vein contains minerals including white quartz, white mica, chlorite, pyrite, rutile, calcite, monazite, zircon, and apatite. Rutile with euhedral or medium aggregate occur at mafic part from laminated quartz vein. Two types of rutile are distinguishable in BSE image, light rutile is texturally later than dark rutile. Chemical composition of rutile has 89.69~98.71 wt.% (TiO2), 0.25~7.04 wt.% (WO3), 0.30~2.56 wt.% (FeO), 0.00~1.71 wt.% (Nb2O5), 0.17~0.35 wt.% (HfO2), 0.00~0.30 wt.% (V2O3), 0.00~0.35 wt.% (Cr2O3) and 0.04~0.25 wt.% (Al2O3), and light rutile are higher WO3, Nb2O5 and FeO compared to the dark rutile. It indicates that dark rutile and light rutile were formed at different stage. The substitution mechanisms of dark rutile and light rutile are suggested as followed : dark rutile [(V3+, Cr3+) + (Nb5+, Sb5+) ↔ 2Ti4+, 4Cr3+ (or 2W6+) ↔ 3Ti4+ (W6+ ↔ 2Cr3+), V4+ ↔ Ti4+], light rutile [2Fe3+ + W6+ ↔ 3Ti4+, 3Fe2+ + W6+ ↔ Ti4+ + (V3+, Al3+, Cr3+) +Nb5+], respectively. While the dark rutile was formed by cations including V3+, V4+, Cr3+, Nb5+, Sb5+ and W6+ by regional metamorphism of hostrock, the postdating light rutile was formed by redistribution of cations from predating dark rutile and addition of Fe2+ and W6+ from Au-bearing hydrothermal fluid during ductile shear.

The Photocatalytic Decomposition of Trichloroethylene(TCE) with $TiO_2$ ($TiO_2$광촉매를 이용한 Trichloroethylene(TCE)의 광분해 반응)

  • The photocatalytic degradation of trichloroethylene(TCE) in water on various types of$TiO_2$ was studied. Surface properties of $TiO_2$were characterized by XRD, SEM, and BET in our previous work(23) . $TiO_2$from Aldrich has 100$\%$pure anatase, TiO$_2$from KIER has 100$\%$ pure rutile structure, and P25-TiO$_2$from Degussa has mixed structure of anatase(75$\%$) and rutile(25$\%$) . Firstly, optimum conditions for TCE degradation were examined in this study. Results showed that optimum loading amount of catalyst was 0.1 wt% and recirculation flow rate of mixture(distilled water and TCE) was 200 cc/min. Secondly, the effect of $TiO_2$structure on TCE degradation was examined. Results revealed that anatase structure generally has better photocatalytic activity than rutile structure. Especially, mixed structure(Degussa P25-$TiO_2$) has the highest activity due to small particle size and large specific surface area.

Phase Transitions In Nonstoichiometric Titanium Oxide Thin Films (비정량적 산화티타늄 박막의 상변태 특성)

  • Phase transition kinetics of nonstoichiometric amorphous titanium oxide thin films deposited by reactive sputtering was investigated after cooling down with various rate followed by l0min.-3hrs. annealing at $500^{\circ}C$~$600^{\circ}C$ After short duration and fast cooling. Magneli was the only crystalline phase because the oxidation rates of $TiO_{2-x}$, could be relatively slower than that of crystallization. When the films were cooled slowly between $500^{\circ}C$~$300{\circ}C$, Magneli was transformed into an anatase and stabilized, but directly into a rutile under fast cooling. Because the rutile also prevailed after cooling from $600^{\circ}C$, it was concluded that the rutile phase could be formed directly from Magneli as well as converted from the anatase. Changes in volume and surface morphology were observed related to crystallization and oxidation processduring heat treatment.

  • Skull melting method can be a good candidate for growing oxide single crystals with high quality and for mass production because of its low production costs and high yield through recycling of crust. In this study, rutile single crystals were frown by the skull melting method and ingot characteristics with the variation of different growth conditions has been investigated. Conditions for high quality rutile ingot growth were used for producing cold-crucible size of ${\Phi}12cm{\times}H14cm$, capacity of 3000 pF tank condenser, work frequency of 2.84 MHz, melt-dwelling time of 9hrs and growing speed of 2 mm/h.

Crystal Structure and Superhydrophilic Property of $TiO_2$ Thin Film Coated on Si(100) Wafer (Si(100) 기판 위에 코팅된 $TiO_2$박막의 결정구조와 초친수 특성)

  • We have studied superhydrophilic properties of TiO₂thin films in relation with those crystal structures due to the heat treatments. Thin films were fabricated on Si (100) wafers using a conventional Sol-Gel method. Following drying and sintering processes, TiO₂film had an anatase phase with additional heat treatment at 500℃, an rutile phase at 1000℃, and a mixture of anatase and rutile phase at 750℃. All these films got hydrophilic even without any UV illumination. Especially the sample treated at 750℃ had a superhydrophilic contact angle of 5°. We suggested that the superhydrophilic films should have a mixture of anatase and rutile phase for the best performance. The hydrophilic TiO₂films were slowly degraded into the hydrophobic state in the dark room but quickly recovered back with les than 1 hour of UV illumination.

가시광영역에서 TiO$_{2}$ 광촉매의 광활성에 관한 연구

  • TiO$_{2}$ 광촉매 구조 변환에 따른 실험을 행하기 위해 sol-gel 법으로 17%, 59%, 91% rutile과 pure anatase를 제조하였다. Rutile의 비율이 증가할수록 비표면적은 감소하였고, 입자크기는 증가하였다. Pure anatase 보다 rutile이 포함된 TiO$_{2}$ 광촉매가 가시광영역에서 흡수률이 더 뛰어났으며 분해효율도 좋은 것으로 나타났다.

Oxygen Diffusion and Point Defects in Single Crystal Rutile (Rutile 단결정에서 산소의 확산과 점결합)

  • By means of the secondary ion mass spectrometer, the tracer diffusion of oxygen in rutile single crystal was measured as function of temperature and oxygen partial pressure. The tracer diffusivity was determined from the depth profile of 18O. The Po2 dependence of D suggests that the dominant defects in TiO2-y are oxygen vacancies (V{{{{ { ‥} atop { o} }}) and interstitial titanium ions (Ti{{{{ {‥‥} atop {i} }}). The doubly ionized oxygen vacancies are prominent at low temperature and Po2. However, the tetravalent interstitial titanium ions predominate at teperature above 120$0^{\circ}C$.
