The purposes of this study were to explore decision-making patterns of rural couples and to clarify the differences between socio-demographic variables related to the patterns. The data were gathered from 1,870 rural households through interviews with structured questionnaire in the 187 rural communities sampled by multi-staged cluster stratified sampling method in November 2005. A total of 1,106 farm households including householder and spouse participated in the interview. The results of this study were as follows: First, in general, mainly householder made decision-making in the areas of dealing with real estate and selling farm products, while spouse decided in the areas of choosing television channel and deciding living expenses. Second, there were no significant differences of patterns by age, education and income level. Third, decision-making patterns were significantly different by sex and family type. According to the results of the study, in farm household, 'pattern of mainly householder or husband decision-making' was high yet as regarding agricultural decision making. Therefore, researchers suggested that educational program could be helpful for rural couples to participate in practicing gender equity decision- making.

This study compared the pattern of couples' time-use in rural areas. Wives' and husbands' time spent in household work, leisure, and agricultural labor were compared. In addition, this study examined what factors determine the amount of time of couples spent in such activities. According to the results, in general, the pattern of couple's time-use in rural area was different. Regarding the pattern of time-use, three major results could be mentioned. First of all, husband in rural area spent most agricultural labour time in busy farming season. And then husband spent much time in leisure activities and wife spent in household work. Second, wife spent more time in inactive leisure and husband spent more time in active leisure. Third, husband in rural area spent less time in household work. In particular. they spent less time in female-typed work than male-typed work. To examine what factors determine the extent of time spent in such activities, three theories were employed and tested. According to the results, the models employed in this study were realistic in explaining the amount of time of couple in rural area, and more adjustable wife than husband. In conclusion, a combination of the multidimensional theoretical perspectives used in this study helpfully explains the variation in the amount of time-use of couple in rural area.

The purpose of this study is to examine the healthy degree of the rural families and the variables that affect it, as well as the differences between husband and wife perceptions on the healthiness of rural families. One hundred and ninety six couples (three hundred and ninety two individuals) were surveyed for this study The following findings were obtained from the analysis of the data. First, the degree of the healthiness of rural families was quantified as about 71 points out of 100 possible maximum points. Second, family type ($\beta$=.17), the wife's self-esteem ($\beta$ =.22), the husband's self-esteem ($\beta$ =.17), wife's marital satisfaction ($\beta$ =.32), and husband's marital satisfaction ($\beta$=.15) were the only variables that significantly affected the healthiness of rural families. Third, social-psychological variables (for example, self-esteem and marital satisfaction of the couple) had more explanatory power than material and farming-related variables. From the results of this study, it is suggested that in order to enhance the healthiness of rural families, systematic educational programs that can improve social-psychological interactions among family members should be developed.

The purpose of this study were to analyze the agricultural work and household work of farm couples. Time use survey are vital towards understanding social obligations and also an important input policy analysis. Rural farm work divided into the peak and the off-peak farming seasons was analysed to study the allocation of daily time use among farm couples. The major results are as follow: Farm work time is longer in the peak than in the off-peak. Especially, women farmer's farming work time in the off-peak is still longer than man farmer's that. The gender difference in total work time in this study shows that the women farmers work more. During both seasons, the time allocation of the women farmer were unbalanced because of the differences in the level of workload by gender.

The purposes of this study are to figure out the labor and leisure of the rural couples through the analysis of the related literatures and to make some contributive suggestions for the higher quality of rural life. To solve the rural family's problems and to promote welfare reductive method of house work and farm-work active leisure-participation and other psyco-social approach etc. various methods are discussed.

This study is designed to understand marital relationships of the rural couples in Korea. The primary purposes of this study are to examine the relationship between marital satisfaction and role evaluation of the spouse and to construct a path model in which shows the relationships among background variables, role evaluation of the spouse and marital satisfaction. Structured guestionnaires from 435 couples with school-age children and teenagers living in rural area are analyzed in this study. The major findings are as follows : 1. Factor analysis of the role evaluation of the spouse results I 4 factors for both husbands and wives; emotional support-sexual role child socialization-economic role, kinship role and housekeeping role. 2. The most important factor influencing the marital satisfaction is the role evaluation of the spouse o emotional support-sexual relation. While the number of children, and role evaluations of the spouse influence directly on the marital satisfaction of the wives, age, level of education, level of income and husband's occupation influence indirectly through role evaluations of the spouse on that of wives. 3. For husbands, family life cycle and their occupation influence indirectly on the marital satisfaction of the husbands and the marital satisfaction of them is also mediated by role evaluations of the wieves. Level of income of the family not only influences directly on marital satisfaction but influences on it indirectly. 4. Marital satisfaction is mediated by role evaluations of the spouse. The role evaluation of the spouse on emotional support-sexual relation has the most powerful effect on the marital satisfaction for both wives and husbands. About 60 percent of the variance in the marital satisfaction of rural couples can be explained by the role evaluation of the spouse. therefore, the result of the result of the study indicates that the role evaluation of the spouse on emotional support-sexual relation plays a significant part in determining the marital satisfaction of rural couples.

The purposes of this study were to analyze the work and leisure of rural couples in Chonnam district, to examine couple's perception about farm life, to analyze the factors influencing the time use of husbands and wives. 300 farmhouses were selected by stratified sampling from 20 Myon in Chonnam district, 244 husbands and 283 wives were interviewed using questionnaire and time diary. The major results are as follow : 1) The rural couples have not pride on agriculture, the level of satisfaction and policy reliability was low, and impoverished conditions was high. 2) work time of wives was two hours longer did, and leisure time of wives was 73 minutes shorter than their husbands. 3) The time use of husbands and wives were significantly influenced by agricultural type, farmwork, house work time, age etc.

The purpose of this study is to examine the ways in international married couples perceive the lives of their spouses as well as their own, and the ways in which they perceive their relationships with their children. In addition, the study attempts to explore the implicit meanings at work in the lives of international married families. The participants in this study were eight international married couples from rural areas and the data were gathered by means of semi-structured interviews. According to the findings, international married couples perceived their relationships with their children in terms of individual-specific maternal roles versus the Korean culturally-specific paternal roles. Secondly, in terms of their spouse' life, husbands relied more on their wives and had high expectations of them. On the other hand, wives had the tendency to pay more attention and place more hope on their children rather than their husbands. Lastly, regarding their own lives, the findings revealed that wives tended to maintain the hope and desire for a better life, whereas the husbands were unable to adapted to their reality and tended to look back on the past. In addition, the limitations of this study and suggestions for future studies were also discussed.

The purpose of this thesis is to explore the health characteristics of different groups of rural families in Korea. The subjects of the study were all couples from the selected 40 villages whose eldest childs educational level is at least at a middle school level. The data for 356 people from 178 households were analysed. Groups of healthy family were organized into two classes - the H group, and the L group. The probability to be involved in H group, by logistic analysis, was heightened as the mental health of the family and marital satisfaction increased, and as the seriousness of a couples problems decreased. Also it was heightened as the numbers of family members decreased, as the academic level of couple accorded, as the problems of kinship were no, and as the problems of local society were recognized. The groundwork of this treatise can be used as basic materials to establish a model of a healthy rural family and make programs for the improvement of rural family health.

보건복지가족부 질병관리본부의 건강관리를 위한 지역 코호트사업으로 금산군 1개읍 9개면에 거주하는 만 40세이상부터 70세까지의 주민 중 본 연구에 참여의사를 밝힌 임의 추출된 총 2,007명(남: 868명, 여: 1,139명) 중 부부가 함께 조사된 297쌍(594명)을 대상으로 배우자의 고혈압 위험요인이 상대 배우자의 고혈압에 미치는 영향을 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 고혈압 위험요인은 아내가 대사증후군이 있는 경우(OR=2.879), 현재 음주자(OR=1.892)에서 높았다. 아내 고혈압에 대한 남편의 고혈압 위험요인은 연령(OR=1.037), 비만(OR=1.922), 대사증후군(OR=4.100), 중성지방(OR=1.793)에서 높았다. 결론적으로 농촌지역 부부들에서 함께 공유하는 공간과 시간에서 고혈압에 영향을 주는 요인은 연령, 체질량지수, 대사 증후군이 중요하므로 이에 대한 관리가 필요하다고 본다.
