Amphibious assault vehicles have been used in the Marine Corps. In recent years, their ability to move faster is becoming one of the most important considerations. At high speeds, the vehicle tends to sink at the stern and sometimes the opposite occurs. Such dynamic trim plays a significant role in determining the vehicle's hydrodynamic performance. Furthermore, an excessive trim by stern upsets the viewing angle. We have thus considered a stern hydrofoil to reduce the dynamic trim of the amphibious assault vehicle. Laboratory-scale resistance tests were conducted in a towing tank at the Seoul National University (SNU). This study aims to make a preliminary assessment of the hydrodynamic performance of the vehicle with the stern hydrofoil and to investigate permissible speed range of the vehicle. The experimental results show that the stern hydrofoil can successfully achieve a reduction of both the dynamic trim and the hydrodynamic resistance at running speeds above 20 km/h.
A coast down test mothod has been used to determine the resistance forces on running vehicle due to the aerodynamic drag, rolling resistance and driveline resistance. Most of the tests, however, are based on the Velocity-Time measurements, which require a sophisticated velocity measuring device and contain much error by nature. In the present study a coast down test method based on Distance-Time measurements is introduced, which contains the original idea of Russian scientist Prof. Petrushov along with the suggestions for improvement of the accuracy.
These days more electric devices are implemented in car, and more accurate estimation of SoC is required. OCV with current integration and Internal Resistance is essential method of Battery SoC Estimation. In this paper we propose OCV with current integration method and compare with Internal Resistance method. In OCV with current integration method estimation error was less than average 2%, but requires more than 5 minutes to stabilize OCV. If Stop and Running conditions are change frequently, estimation error will increase. In Internal resistance Modeling method, in high SoC state, estimation error was more than 15%, and in low SoC state, estimation error was less than 8%.

This study performed a numerical analysis of a 3D unsteady viscous flow in order to investigate ship motion responses running through regular waves of the platform supply vessel. The feasibility of numerical analysis was tested under the three regular wave conditions of the KRISO container ship (KCS) suggested at the 2010 Gothenburg CFD Workshop. The resulting resistance coefficient, heave motion, and pitch angle were compared with the model test of the harmonic analysis. Also, the ship motion response characteristics of the platform supply vessel were performed using the proven method of the KRISO container ship (KCS). The ship motions including the resistance coefficient, heave motion, and pitch angle according to the time series were investigated via harmonic analysis under regular waves condition of ${\lambda}/LPP=1.87$ and $H_S=0.078m$.
This study investigates the effects of corrosion resistance characteristics of opponent materials in relative motion on the sliding wear behavior of mild carbon steel. Pin specimens made of mild carbon steel are tested at several sliding speeds against mating discs made of two types of alloyed steels, such as type D2 tool steel (STD11) and type 420 stainless steel (STS420J2), with different corrosion resistance characteristics in a pin-on-disc type sliding wear test machine. The results clearly show that the sliding wear behavior of mild carbon steel is influenced by the corrosion resistance characteristics of the mating disc materials at low sliding speeds. However, the sliding wear behavior at high sliding speeds is irrelevant to the characteristics because of the rising temperature. During the steady state wear period, the sliding wear rate of mild carbon steel against the type 420 stainless steel at a sliding speed of 0.5 m/s increases considerably unlike against the type D2 tool steel. This may be because the better corrosion resistance characteristics achieve a worse tribochemical reactivity. However, during the running-in wear period at low sliding speeds, the wear behavior of mild carbon steel is influenced by the microstructure after heat treatment of the mating disc materials rather than by their corrosion resistance characteristics.
As the first part of the body that strikes the ground during running, sports shoes are especially important for improving performance and reducing injuries. The use of new nanotechnology materials in the shoe's sole that can affect the movement angle of the foot and the ground reaction forces during running has not been reported yet. It is important to consider the material of the sole of the shoe since it determines the long-term performance of sports shoes, including their comfort while walking, running, and jumping. Running performance can be improved by polymer foam that provides good support with low energy dissipation (low energy dissipation). Running shoes have a midsole made of ethylene propylene copolymer (EPP) foam. The mechanical properties of EPP foam are, however, low. To improve the mechanical performance of EPP, conventional mineral fillers are commonly used, but these fillers sacrifice energy return. In this study, to improve the magnificence of physical education training with nanotechnology, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) derived from recycled plastics were prepared by catalytic chemical vapor deposition and used as nucleating and reinforcing agents. As a result of the results, the physical, mechanical, and dynamic response properties of EPP foam combined with CNT and zinc oxide nanoparticles were significantly improved. When CNT was added to the nanocomposites with a weight percentage of less than 0.5 wt%, the wear resistance, physical properties, dynamic stiffness, compressive strength, and rebound properties of EPP foams were significantly improved.
The internal flows of moonpool usually causes huge added resistance on drillships, and those are very complex to analyze. Therefore, not only experimental approaches but also numerical simulations are required for better investigations when dealing with the hydrodynamic problems of moonpool. In the present research, numerical simulations are used to find out why the resistance increases by moonpool on a running drillship. That is, the three-dimensional numerical simulations and model tests are carried out to examine the characteristics of internal flow and added resistance by changing the section of the moonpool in both longitudinal and transverse directions. Finally, based on the present studies, an optimized shape of the moonpool is suggested, which effectively reduces added resistance, and that is confirmed with three-dimensional numerical simulations and model tests.
