The sequence of 3,221 nucleotides immediately adjacent to rpsA gene encoding 30S ribosomal protein S1 of Brevibacterium ammoniagenes was determined. A putative open reading frame (ORF) of 2,670 nucleotides for a polypeptide of 889 amino acid residues and a TAG stop codon was found, which is located at a distance of 723 nucleotides upstream from rpsA gene with same translational direction. The deduced amino acid sequence of the ORF was found to be highly homologous to the DNA polymerase I of Streptomyces griseus (75.48%), Rhodococcus sp. ATCC 15963 (56.69%), Mycobacterium tuberculosis (55.46%) and Mycobacterium leprae (53.99%). It was suggested that the predicted product of the ORF is a DNA polymerase I with three functional domains. Two domains of 5 → 3 exonuclease and DNA polymerase are highly conserved with other DNA polymerase I, but 3 → 5 exonuclease domain is less conserved.

Understanding how ram pressure stripping (RPS) affects the star formation activity of cluster galaxies is one of the important issues in astrophysics. To examine whether we can identify any discernible trend in the star formation activity of galaxies undergoing ram pressure stripping, we study the star formation properties of galaxies in the Virgo cluster for which high-resolution HI images are available. We first classify galaxies in the Extended Virgo Cluster Catalog into different stages of RPS based on their HI morphology, HI deficiency, and location in phase space. We then examine various star formation activity indicators of these galaxies, which include starburstiness, g - r color, and WISE [3.4]-[12] color. No noticeable enhancement in star formation was identified for galaxies undergoing early or active stripping. Our results suggest that star formation activity at best seems to be enhanced locally in such galaxies, making it challenging to detect with integrated photometry. With the combination of HI deficiencies and locations in phase space, we were instead able to capture the overall quenching of star formation activity with increasing degree of ram pressure stripping, which agree with previous studies.

Renewable Portfolio Standards(RPS) is a regulation that requires a renewable energy generated from eco-friendly energy sources such as biomass, wind, solar, and geothermal. The RPS mechanism generally is an obligatory policy that places on electricity supply companies to produce a designated fraction of their electricity from renewable energies. The domestic companies to supply electricity largely rely on wood pellets in order to implement the RPS in spite of undesirable situation of lack of wood resources in Korea. This means that the electricity supply companies in Korea must explore new biomass as an alternative to wood. Palm kernel shell (PKS) and empty fruit bunch (EFB) as oil palm wastes can be used as raw materials used for making pellets after their thermochemical treatment like torrefaction. Torrefaction is a pretreatment process which serves to improve the properties including heating value and energy densification of these oil palm wastes through a mild pyrolysis at temperature typically ranging between 200 and $300^{\circ}C$ in the absence of oxygen under atmospheric pressure. Torrefaction of oil palms wastes at above $200^{\circ}C$ contributed to the increase of fixed carbon with the decrease of volatile matters, leading to the improvement of their calorific values over 20.9 MJ/kg (=5,000 kcal/kg) up to 25.1 MJ/kg (=6,000 kcal/kg). In particular, EFB sensitively responded to torrefaction because of its physical properties like fiber bundles, compared to PKS and hardwood chips. In conclusion, torrefaction treatment of PKS and EFB can greatly contribute to the implement of RPS of the electricity supply companies in Korea through the increased co-firing biomass with coal.

Domestic companies supplying electricity must increase obligatory duty to use renewable energy annually. If not met with obligatory allotment, the electricity-supply companies must pay RPS (Renewable Portfolio Standards) penalty. Although the power plants using a pulverizing coal firing boiler could co-fire up to around 3 per cent with wood pellets mixed in with coal feedstock without any major equipment revamps, they recorded only about 60 per cent fulfillment of RPS. Consequently, USD 46 million of RPS penalty was imposed on the six power supplying subsidiaries of GENCOs in 2014. One of the solutions to reduce the RPS penalty is that the power supply companies adopt the co-firing of torrefied lignocellulosic biomass in coal plants, which may contribute to the use of over 30 per cent of torrefied biomass mixed with bituminous coals. Extra binder was required to form pellets using torrefied biomass such as wood chips, PKS (Palm Kernel Shell) and EFB (Empty Fruit Bunch). Instead of corn starch, 30, 50 and 70 per cent of Larix saw dusts were respectively added to the torrefied feedstocks such as Pinus densiflora chips, PKS and EFB. The addition of saw dusts led to the decrease of the calorific values of the pellets but the forming ability of the pelletizer was exceedingly improved. Another advantage from the addition of saw dusts stemmed from the reduction of ash contents of the pellets. Finally, it was confirmed that torrefied oil palm biomass such as PKS and EFB could be valuable feedstocks in making pellets through improved binding ability.
Degradation characteristics of insecticide diazinon in upland and paddy soils under laboratory conditions were investigated to elucidate the effect of raw pig slurry (RPS) and processed pig slurry (PPS) treatment. Soil (20g) was treated with RPS and PPS by standard rate, double rate and triple rate before treating with diazinon (0.5mg/kg level) and incubating at ($25{\pm}2^{\circ}C$) for 60 days. The half-lives of diazinon in the untreated upland and paddy soil were about 28 and 22 days respectively. The degradation rate of diazinon was faster by $5.0{\pm}1.2$ days in the paddy soil than in the upland soil independent of fertilizer types. This result indicates that soil moisture content affects the half-life of diazinon probably by hydrolysis. Degradation of diazinon was faster in RPS treatment soil than in PPS treatment soil. The more amount of fertilizers were treated, the more rapidly diazinon degraded regardless of fertilizers and soil types. Based on the results obtained, degradation of diazinon in soil was definitely influenced by soil water contents and treatment of those fertilizers.
Hydrogen energy is emerging as an important means of carbon neutrality in the various sectors including power, transportation, storage, and industrial processes. Fuel cell power plants are the fastest spreading in the hydrogen ecosystem and are one of the key power sources among means of implementing carbon neutrality in 2050. However, high volatility in system marginal price (SMP) and renewable energy certificate (REC) prices, which affect the profits of fuel cell power plants, delay the investment timing and deployment. This study applied the real option methodology to analyze how the dual uncertainties in both SMP and REC prices affect the investment trigger price level in the irreversible investment decision of fuel cell power plants. The analysis is summarized into the following three. First, under the current Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS), dual price uncertainties passed on to plant owners has significantly increased the investment trigger price relative to one under the deterministic price case. Second, reducing the volatility of REC price by half of the current level caused a significant drop in investment trigger prices and its investment trigger price is similar to one caused by offering one additional REC multiplier. Third, investment trigger price based on gray hydrogen and green hydrogen were analyzed along with the existing byproduct hydrogen-based fuel cells, and in the case of gray hydrogen, economic feasibility were narrowed significantly with green hydrogen when carbon costs were applied. The results of this study suggest that the current RPS system works as an obstacle to the deployment of fuel cell power plants, and policy that provides more stable revenue to plants is needed to build a more cost-effective and stable hydrogen ecosystem.
In this paper, a feature extraction (FE) method is proposed that is comparable to the traditional FE methods used in automatic speech recognition systems. Unlike the conventional spectral-based FE methods, the proposed method evaluates the similarities between an embedded speech signal and a set of predefined speech attractor models in the reconstructed phase space (RPS) domain. In the first step, a set of Gaussian mixture models is trained to represent the speech attractors in the RPS. Next, for a new input speech frame, a posterior-probability-based feature vector is evaluated, which represents the similarity between the embedded frame and the learned speech attractors. We conduct experiments for a speech recognition task utilizing a toolkit based on hidden Markov models, over FARSDAT, a well-known Persian speech corpus. Through the proposed FE method, we gain 3.11% absolute phoneme error rate improvement in comparison to the baseline system, which exploits the mel-frequency cepstral coefficient FE method.

A risk informed approach to relax AOTs and STIs of RPS/ESPAS in technical specifications of kori units 3, 4 was performed in this paper. With the proposed AOTs and STIs, system unavailabilities and core damage frequency were quantified using PSA model. The results shoe that core damage frequency is slightly increased by extending AOTs and STIs but negligible. As considering the benefits such as reduction of plant transients and man power for test and maintenance, the relaxation of AOTs/STIs of RPS/ESFAS is justified
In the environment with multiple heterogeneous wireless sensor networks with a single point of sensed data collection or a gateway (GW), relay points (RPs) may be required for the energy efficient delivery of sensed data from static or mobile sinks to the GW. The optimal placement of RPs becomes an even more difficult problem if static sinks are dynamically added or the trajectory of mobile sinks can not be known in advance. In order to resolve this problem, we propose a mechanism to deploy RPs in a grid pattern and to use the tree-based relaying network for reducing the cost of the RP and for reducing the control overhead incurred by the route setup from sinks to the GW. For the performance evaluation of our proposed mechanism, we have carried out a numerical analysis on a single route setup from a sink to the GW and, for more general performance evaluations, ns-2 based simulations have been carried out. According to the performance evaluation results, our tree-based relaying network mechanism outperforms that based on AODV in terms of the data delivery time, the network service time and the control overhead.

This study analyzed whether a spatial difference exists in the willingness to pay(WTP) for renewable electricity, by applying the contingent valuation method(CVM). Considering renewable portfolio standards(RPS) as the hypothetical market, we asked WTP in the form of the monthly electricity bills for using renewable electricity; the respondents were people living in Seoul, Ulsan, JeollaNamdo, and Gangwondo. Our empirical results showed that the mean WTP of Gangwondo was the highest, and that of JeollaNamdo, the lowest. The hypothesis that the WTP of the entire sample would not differ from that of the individual regions was rejected. Hence, a spatial difference probably exists in the WTP for electricity from renewable energy. Further, we attributed the spatial differences in WTP to the experience of those staying near the renewable energy facility and the acceptability of the facility.
