The purposes of this study were to determine the factors that influence job satisfaction for ICU nurses and to analyze group differences in job satisfaction based on the nurses' preference and perception of the work environment with an enhanced professional role. A total of 231 nurses who had been working in Intensive Care Units at least for 6 months at selected university hospitals participated in the study while head nurses or those with administrative positions were excluded. The study participants had an average of 33 months of clinical experience with an age range of 23 to 40 years. The data were analyzed by utilizing SPSSWIN and the results are as follows. 1) Hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that work characteristics defined by Job characteristics theory and nurses' preference / perception of ideal work environment together explained 33% of variance in job satisfaction. Skill variety, task identity and autonomy as well as individual perception of work environment were significant variables for explaining job satisfaction. Job satisfaction was not significantly related to age, marital status, education, and clinical experience. 2) The groups classified by nurses' preference and perception of work environment were significantly different in their job satisfaction. Nurses with high preference and high perception showed significantly higher general and specific job satisfaction than other nurses. The nurses who showed high preference but perceived their work environment as not reflecting ideal job characteristics reported the lowest job satisfaction among the groups. In conclusion, the role of individual preference and perception of the work environment in explaining the relationship between the redesign of work environment and job satisfaction was supported by the study, The preferences of nurses to the innovative work characteristics should be considered in the process of enhancing job characteristics to lead job satisfaction and low turnover and ultimately to improve quality of care.
This study aims to find out the determinants of male police officers' investigative behavior(active investigation vs. secondary victimization) of sexual violence. For this purpose, a hypothetical model which explains the relationships among the 5 variables (knowledge of law about the investigative role, perception of the protective & connective role, prejudice against the sexual violence, active investigation, and secondary victimization) was developed. Using the data collected from 354 male police officers of 3 cities in Gyeongnam area, the hypothetical model was tested. For data analysis, a structural equation modeling was used, and the final model was found(CFI=0.947, IFI=0.948, RMSEA=0.048). As a result of analyzing the model, the followings were found: (1) Active investigation was increased by knowledge of law about the investigative role, and perception of the protective & connective role, while decreased by prejudice against the sexual violence. (2) Secondary vicimization was decreased by knowledge of law about the investigative role. (3) Prejudice against the sexual violence mediate the effects of knowledge of law about the investigative role, and perception of the protective & connective role on active investigation. (4) Prejudice against the sexual violence was found to have no significant effect on secondary victimization. Based on the findings, multi-educational programs, protocols on investigation of sexual violence, professionalization of the police, and changes in investigation environment as well as a system of collaboration and cooperation between police officer and social worker were suggested as a way to increase active investigation and to decrease secondary victimization.

This study examines the teachers' perception of the school library's role and the teacher-librarian expertise that enables collaborative reading education in elementary schools. Furthermore, it develops strategies that the school library and teacher-librarians should undertake for collaborative reading education. The questionnaire was developed to survey 176 teachers in 9 elementary schools in Gyeonggi-do. As a result, the teacher's perception of the school library's role and event role perception would positively impact the expected effects of collaborative reading education intention. This study is meaningful in that suggestions are offered for collaborative reading education and where teacher-librarian expertise is placed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate (1) the effect of a masculine-feminine image in women's blouse·skirt on the perception of the wearer's occupational characteristics and suitability of the clothing for certain occupations, and (2) the effect of perceiver's sex, sex-role attitudes, and occupation on the perception formed by the function of clothing cues. The research design of the study consisted of 2(skirt color) × 2(blose color) × 3(masculine-feminine blouse forms) factorial desing of a blouse·skirt set. The experimental materials developed for this study were a set of stimuli and 2 response scales. The stimuli consisted of 12 drawings of woman's clothing made by systematic manipulations of 2 independent variabels (color and form) in drawings of blouse-skirt. The dependent variables were the perceptions of the wearer's occupational characteristics and suitability of the masculine or feminine clothing for certain occupations. Occupational characteristics were measured with a 7-point semantic differential scale composed of 21 bipolar adjectives. Perception of occupational suitability was assessed with 12 items of 5-point Likert type questions. In addition, the Bem Sex-role Inventory was used to assess perceiver's sex-role attitudes. The subjects consisted of 393 men and 389 women, whose occupations were classified as professionals, secondary school teachers, and white-collar workers. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, MANOVA, ANOVA, Mean and S.D. Three factors emerged to account for the perception of occupational characteristics. These factors were given the titles of (1) activity, (2) potency, and (3) evaluation factors. The activity factor was the largest, including 9 adjectives and accounting for 33.3% of the variance in blouse-skirt. On the blouse-skirt set, the form of the blouse had an effect on activity and evaluation for both sexes, while the color of the skirt had an effect on evaluation for both sexes as well as on potency for men. Strong effect of color and form on blouse·skirt were seen in perception of occupational suitability for the occupations of attorney(masculine) and secretary(feminine). On suitability for secondary school teaching occupations, the effects of color and form of blouse·skirt differed by sex of the subjects. Male subjects determined suitability by the color of the blouse, while female subjects determinied suitability on the basis of the form of the blouse. Perceiver's sex-role attitude and occupation partially influenced the perception of the wearer's occupational characteristics and suitability of the clothing for certain occupations.
This study examined the effect of family cohesion and perception of age-friendly environment on sense of community and the mediating role of perception of age-integration in those relationships by regions. To that end, we used survey data collected from a nation-wide survey from adults who are aged 20 to 85 (N=1,200). ANOVA, structural equation models and bootstrapping mediation tests were conducted. The results showed that family cohesion and one sub-dimension of the age-friendly environment- social participation- increased sense of community in all three regions. Also, perception of age-integration partially mediated the relationship between family cohesion and sense of community in the Metropolitan areas and small cities as well as the relationship between social participation and sense of community in all three regions. Based on the results, authors discussed ways to increase family cohesion and social participation to enhance sense of community.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the soccer team captain's empowerment on role perception and team cohesion. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, data of 154 students from elementary and middle school soccer teams and soccer clubs in Busan Metropolitan City and Gyeongsangnam-do were collected, and then exploratory factor analysis, Cronbach's α coefficient calculation and correlation using SPSS statistic 25.0 The reliability and validity of the relationship analysis and research tools were verified. After that, the results of multiple regression analysis for hypothesis testing are as follows. First, it was found that the empowerment of the captain of the soccer team had a partial positive effect on role perception. Second, it was found that the empowerment of the captain of the soccer team had a partial positive effect on the team cohesion. Third, it was found that the role perception of the captain of the soccer team had a positive effect on the team cohesion. Therefore, it is necessary to enhance the team's role and team cohesion through the empowerment of the captain of the soccer team.

The early postpartum period is crucial toward in recovery from childbirth and attainment of the maternal role. Maternal role attainment is a complex social and cognitive process of stimulus-response accomplished by learning. Helping for maternal role attainment is one of nursing goals in the early postpartum period. Based on King's conceptual framework for nursing, this study was planned as descriptive correlation study to determine the significant differences of the degree of nursery room nurses' role performance according to several variables of personal, interpersonal, and working system of nurses in nursery room. The purpose of this study was to contribute to the planning of nursing care to help maternal role attainment of the early postpartum period of mothers and to the development of relevant nursing theory. The data were collected from Feb. 3 to 28 by questionnaires with 273 nurses in nursery room. The instruments for this study were consisted of four parts : 21 questions for rot performance of nurse. 37 questions for personal system of nurse including 31 questions for role perception of nurse : 65 questions for interpersonal system including 63 questions for job stress of nurses , 18 questions for working system of nurse. The toos to measure role performance and role perception, and job stress of nurse were tested for internal reliability. Cronbach's Alphas were 0.9612, 0.9058, and 0.9649. The data were analysed by using in S.A.S. computerized program and included percentage, t-test, ANOVA Pearson Correlation Coefficient, and Duncan multiple range test. The conclusions obtained from this study are summerized as follows : 1. The mean score of the items of role performance was 2.12(SD=0.55) in Likert's 4 points scale. 2. The degree of role performance was significantly different according to role perception(p=0.0001), age (p=0.006), educational background(p=0.002) , and certificate of midwife (p=0.03) among variables of personal system of subjects. 3. The degree of role performance was significantly different according to job stress (p=0.0001) and numbers of children(p=0.006) among variables of interpersonal system of subjects. 4. The degree of role performance was significantly different according to having opportunities for baby(p=0.03), the degree of flexibility to bring baby to mother's room(p=0.046), the scope of visitor for baby(p=0.016) , the degree of flexibility of visiting for baby (p=0.049) , the degree of participation of nurse in establishing visiting rules(p=0.017), existence and/or nonexistance of rules for breast feeding(p=0.010) , existence and/or nonexistance of education for breast feeding (p=0.009), existence and/or nonexistance of breast feeding room(p=0.013) , concert methods for breast feeding (p=0.003), working place (p=0.0001), and career(p=0.019) among variables of personal system of subjects.
This study presents experiments which examined the role of amplitude and fundamental frequency (f0) in the phonetic perception of short versus long stop length contrasts in Japanese (e.g., [t] vs. [tt]). Stop length contrasts are normally characterized by differences in the duration of stop closures. However, closure duration can be unreliable as a perceptual cue when one considers variability in the rate at which people speak. Acoustically, the amplitude and f0 of the vowel following stop consonants are known to covary with the length distinction of stops in Japanese. Given this fact, the current study examined amplitude and f0 as potential secondary cues to the distinction. The results indicate that even though both amplitude and f0 are robust correlates, Japanese listeners do not use these cues in categorizing short versus long stops.
The objective of this study is to conduct survey analyses of the role perception and performance of homeroom teachers in elementary schools in Seoul as well as their students' expectations for teachers' role as counsellors. The study also aims to analyze the causes behind the lackluster performance, to provide assistance in teachers' counselling and guidance activities and collect basic data for providing a plausible orientation for elementary school counselling. Research topics for achieving these study objectives are as follows. First, what is the status quo of counselling between elementary school students and teachers? Second, what is the role perception of elementary school homeroom teachers as counsellors and their current level of performance? Third, what are the differences in students' expectations for homeroom teachers' role as counsellors according to students' environmental variables such as gender and grade? Fourth, what are the discrepancies between the roles perception and performance of elementary school homeroom teachers and role expectation of students for homeroom teachers' role as counsellors? In order to answer these questions, surveys were conducted for 229 teachers and 385 students in grades 4, 5 and 6 in 11 elementary schools in Seoul, and the results were analyzed. The questionnaires used for this study were modified and supplemented according to the research objectives based on survey questions released by Gyung-Beom Lee(1989), Hak-Soo Lee(2001) and Gi-Nam Gwon(2005). Statistical analyses were peformed using the SPSS for Windows 10.0 program. The results of the study can be summarized as follows. First, most elementary school homeroom teachers were involved in counselling activities, and about half of them were providing counselling once a month or less. The classroom was the primary location of counselling, and more than half of the surveyed teachers were dissatisfied with their counselling activities. The teachers cited overwhelming teaching hours and excessive work as the factors that made counselling difficult. Second, it was revealed that most elementary school students have had experiences of anguish and most have had some form of counselling. They mostly sought counselling from their parents and friends, and the reasons behind such choices were that they were very understanding. Third, most students responded that they have had no experience of receiving counselling from their homeroom teachers. Among those with counselling experience with their homeroom teachers, most said that the counselling was helpful. The most significant reason for not receiving counselling from their homeroom teachers was that the students had no worries to talk about with their teachers. Fourth, as a result of categorizing the role of elementary school homeroom teachers as counsellors according to the areas of counselling, role perception for each area turned out to be generally high, while performance was substantially lacking. Fifth, in terms of the causes for the lackluster counselling performance, overwhelming teaching hours and excessive work were indicated for counselling areas of academic and personality issues. Sixth, the analysis of students' expectations for elementary school homeroom teachers as counsellors for counselling areas according to gender and grade revealed that there was no overall statistical significance. Seventh, from the general perspective, the level of role perception of the homeroom teachers were higher than the level of students' expectations. In conclusion, in order to enhance the teacher's role as a counsellor, there has to be a concrete perception of roles as a primary premise, calling for training sessions and programs dedicated to counseling for the teachers to take part in. Moreover, in order to alleviate the most significant causes for undermining teachers' counselling activities - overwhelming teaching hours and excessive work - there must be administrative consideration as well as provisions for effective counselling centers and dedicated school counsellors.

The purpose of this study was to investigate middle school students’perception about Home Economics Education in order to provide the basic materials to improve Home Economics curriculum. For this purpose reviewing literatures and empirical research were conducted. the subjects were 661(fourteen-year-ole(8th graders) enrolled in middle school in Seoul and Gyeongsang-nam-do. Statistical methods adopted for data analysis were frequencies, mean standard deviation, ONEWAY ANOVA, Chi-square. Major findings were as follows: 1. The middle school students’perception about Home Economics Education differed with sex of subjects. That is, girl students’perception was higher than boy students’perception. 2. The middle school students’perception about Home Economics subject varied across parents’education level. 3. There was no significant difference in the middle school students’perception about Home Economics Education according to existence of mother’s Job. 4. There was a significant difference in the middle school students’perception about Home Economics Education according to region. That is the perception about the contents of eating life role was high in rural and the daily life as a consumer and resources application was high in Seoul. 5.The middle school students’perception about Home Economics Education varied across subject distinction. That is the perception of boy students who chose Industrial Arts$.$Home Economics subject was high.
