Popular culture has symbolic meaning and has been constructed through different mass media. Newspapers played a significant role in 1950s and 1960s public culture. In particular, editorial cartoons in newspapers expressed social aspects of the age implicitly through satire and criticism. This study examines delivered culture by reflecting the past social aspects and inquiring on clothing featured in the editorial cartoon "Gobau". As for a research method, literature research was conducted on clothing of the age with a review of "Gobau". As for a research range, examination was done based on the complete works of Gobau composed of 5 volumes published as a first edition by Hankookmunhwasa on November, 1973. Early "Gobau" cartoons from 1951-1963 were published in 5 volumes; therefore, research was conducted for the era from 1950s to the early 1960s. Clothing expressed in "Gobau" were reviewed, classified into formative characteristics and internal meaning. Internal meaning was examined by dividing into the expression of social aspects and criticism of society. The research findings are as follows. First, clothing in "Gobau" reflected characteristic in direct manner. There was a coexistence of Hanbok and western-styled, clear distinction between men's trousers and women's skirt. Besides, various kinds of women's western-styled dress appeared in the 1960s. Second, they showed the dress culture that reflected past social aspects. Many aspects were included to reconstruct old and worn clothes due to scarce resources after the Korean War, and cherishing clothes, buying fabric directly to making clothes, making clothes from dressmaking shop, and restrictions on imported goods and luxury items. Third, the study also examined the social norms for fashion. It contained negative perspectives on women wearing pants, short skirts, and new hair styles (like perms) from western culture as well as lipstick.
Clothing not only offers protection for the body and an aesthetic function but also accomplishes a communication role by delivering a message. And symbolic meanings of clothes deliver important information about the wearer. The T-shirt is one of the most popular items of clothing because of its simplicity and utility, In particular, T-shirt patterns, being simple forms, accomplish non-verbal communication directly by making possible the expression of an idea and showing the personality of the wearer. For these reasons, the T-shirt is becoming established as an Important item of clothing that shows one's personality and individuality in modern society. One purpose of this study is to confirm the communication function of fashion and understand that fashion plays an important symbolic role as a means of communication. Another purpose is to see how T-shirt patterns relate to human communication, through studying of widely accepted T-shirt in modern society. The final purpose is to develop a T-shirt design application based on this study and show how T-skirts contribute to expressing one's individuality and deliver ideas about society through clothing. The results of this study are as follows: 1. T-shirt patterns play a part in non-verbal communication. 2. T-shirt patterns have been variously expressed through conditions of society, culture and types of patterns, and formation techniques. 3. The communication function of T-shirt patterns have been classified to 5 categories; publicity, persuasion, solidarity, art, and fashion. 4 T-shirt design patterns were developed and produced. 5. T-shirt patterns could be useful ways to express individuality of oneself today.
The objective of this study is to understand bodily extension and identity in contemporary fashion art through the analysis of 'the fashion acting on the body' among the fashion theory excluding body and the conspicuous works on the opening and covering images as a fashion art as a body-space'. This study also investigated identity problems where there are poles apart in opening and closure their bodies and body-space in which its clothing types were distorted by being de-bodilization out of the traditional and ideological expression method in contemporary fashion art from a opening and closure point of view. Image of opening and closure among body-space in fashion art can be classified into opposing structure of opening and closure. Destroying the boundary between bodily opening and closure for a primary function of clothing and dismantling the role and boundary between body and clothing, opening body-space in appearance as a reemergence of body image or the border between inner and outer are being ambiguous because of transparent material. Being representative work of this study opening body-space was expressed as an opening space image using transparency. On the contrary, closure body-space was isolated from external environment and confined in the certain space, which could limit or restraint body- action. Excluding boundary of body and clothing on the whole or in part, boundary of work becomes body-space. However, these were appeared to be a work inducing unlimited curiosity and meaning from the audience. The interpretation of artistic and body-space in fashion art are indicating the role and function of the fashion art exceeding the suggestible dimensions in the every day life of fashion. The body-space of fashion art showing similar aspect of body art today could be understood that it is substituted into an metaphorical, critical space by seeing it as a symbol system connected with social space. Therefore, contemporary fashion art should be interpreted as an equivocal space looking at the body-space with open mind.

The roles of fashion merchandisers (merchandise managers) in women's apparel industry and their perceptions of the job requirements as a fashion merchandiser were investigated to understand present fashion merchandising activities in the industry and suggest desirable roles of fashion merchandiser for further development of the industry. The research questionnaires were administered to fashion merchandisers working in the ten national brand women's apparel firms. The results of the study were as follows . 1. Annual sales volumes of most surveyed firms were more than five billions won and eight out of ten surveyed firms have fashion merchandisers in their firms. 2. Fashion merchandisers worked at a specific brand merchandising division sales and operations division or merchandise planning division. A fashion merchandiser generally supervised one brand. 3. Fashion merchandiser's work experience ranged from four to fifteen years showing a great deal of experience in the apparel industry. Their majors at university were mostly business and few majored in clothing and textiles, or textiles. 4. In general, the role of fashion merchandiser was a management specialist who was responsible for identifying target markets analyzing fashion trends, planning of the merchandise development budget planning, manufacturing planning, selling, advertising and sales promotion and distributing the merchandise. At some firms fashion merchandi-sers were not responsible for advertising, display, and receiving the orders. 5. Surveyed fashion merchandisers perceived the desirable fashion merchandiser's role as a management specialist conducting overall business activities in the areas of merchandise planning, manufacturing, selling and distribution. They also mentioned the following personal characteristics such as vision leadership, and persuasion as desirable characteri-stics for those who aspire to a career in fashion merchandising. 6. Surveyed fashion merchandisers emphasized relevant and realistic experiences in fashion merchandising education. Several ways were suggested to help the educator keep in touch with business and bring reality to students. They are . field work, bringing professionals into the classroom to speak to the students, emphasizing clothing and textiles education including merchandising area, and establishing a Department of Fashion Merchandising.

This study explores the retail environment factors of the changes mentioned in the "Factors and Directions of the Change of the Apparel Retail Structure in Korea" (Part I) to understand the changes in apparel retail institutions. This study was done through a literature research method and the results are as follows. First, changing consumer needs and trends require extensive new products, a method to manufacture diverse products according to the market demand, and the necessity to manufacture based on trends in demand. This limits the role of mass production, which brought about more flexible manufacturing modes, scaled down manufacturing factories, promoted more cooperative subcontract relationships, and increased global sourcing which uses other companies at the most appropriate global venue. How to organize and use cooperative networks that benefit companies is the key to global competitiveness in the new era and the information technology developed around retail shops plays a key role. Consequently, the management of consumers and their information becomes critical and retail distribution functions become a key corporate function. In addition, it is difficult for small shops to introduce effective new technologies that encourage the growth of large companies. Second, apparel companies that use to benefit from scale merits based on the previous mass production system are now becoming effective by using economies of scale through mass retailing while shops are enlarging their sizes as a way to survive. On the other hand, inexpensive clothes become even more inexpensive while expensive ones become even more expensive, promoting polarization and diverse price ranges that widen consumer options.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the formative properties of fashion bag in contemporary fashion. Today fashion bags can be divided into spatial aesthetic, romantic aesthetic, conspicuous aesthetic, active aesthetic. Spatial aesthetic is a type of big bag which is suitable for women carrying lots of things on a daily basis. Romantic aesthetic is a symbol of femininity in respect for its handmade artistry, splendor, decoration, and impracticality by small size. Conspicuous aesthetic embodies human desire of high quality and being part of prestige of luxury brand regardless of its cost. Multi-functional aesthetic was coming form sports gear and are popular among young generation. In comtemporary fashion, bag take important role as the fashion good which make the clothes look better and additionally they are representative products which reflect the historical situation.

Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles Vol. 19, No. 6 (1995) p. 895~910 The purpose of study was to estimate the consistency between brand image and shopping bag image, and also to find out the important factors which constructed the brand image. This study was conducted by means of a questionnaire survey of female students of moi or universities in Seoul. Frequency, percentage, mean, factor analysis, 1-test, ANOVA, Fisher's LSD, Coster analysis, MDS are used for data analysis. The result are as follows: 1) Brand image was devised into three factors: personality/modernity, nobility and usability. 2) The rate of consistency of brand image and shopping bag image was high in the brands of Benetton, System, Cresson, Be-art, Tomboy, Guess, Esprit, Anacapri, Mercoledi, Youngwoo in descending order. 3) The most important factor which represent the brand image was the choice of color. 4) This study found that shopping bags can be advertising media because they think that shopping bags played an important role as a walking advertising media on the street.

This study intends to find out the desirable teacher's image and to investigate the ideal appearance of the female teacher. The subjects were gathered into 403 high school girls, and convenience sampling was done regarding the number of schools classified by districts and regional characteristics of school. And for analysis of data frequency, percentage, mean, cronbach'$\alpha$ , $x^{2}-test$, 1-test, F-test, Duncan's Multiple Range Test, Factor-Analysis, were conducted. The results are as follows; 1. The subjects Preferred the understanding teacher to the intellectual teacher. 2. There were significant differences in satisfaction with the teacher's role-performance according to the school, grade of the subjects. 3. There were significant differences in reaction to the appearance of the female teacher according to the school, grade of the subjects. 4. There were significant differences in the ideal appearance of the female teacher according to the residence, school, grade of the subjects.
Recently, as microcomputers and sensors have been miniaturized due to dropdown of their market rates, this lead to a favorable environment for implementing the Internet of Things. Smart clothing refers to a system which can be wearable or portable, and allows people to communicate or conduct sensing. Applying the Internet of things, the role of the server computer is to receive and process data obtained from the sensor. An ordinary PC can act as a server but during the implementation of IoT, a PC has limited application due to a large size and the inconvenient portability. This study proposes a model that allows a variety of functions while implementation with the server from the sensing using the Arduino and Raspberry Pi. If we apply this proposed model, everyone can easily and inexpensively experience mobile IoT system.
This study shows historical Gagye(가계) The process of change and Characteristics through analysis on the old documents, related papers, and visual data, and represents its meaning in Korean Clothing history through analysis on originality of Korean Gagye(가계) style. Gagye(가계) is the cubic hair style which add other accessories on hair and is divided into two; Gagye(가계) and Chegye(체계) according to its material, role, and function. And Korean Gagye(가계) has been transformed suited to the times and showed various features according to pattern, wearing, and decoration aspect. In its style aspect, Korean Gagye(가계) style shows Hwangye type, Sseugae type, Gogye type, Dagye type, and Braided & coiled hair type. Each shows historical features. In its Wearing aspect, Gagye(가계) style shows Wearing ornamental hairpin on the head, Wearing Rag Ribbon on the head, and Attaching (Detaching) Wearing. And in its Decoration aspect, Gagye(가계) style shows decoration with accessories, one with flower arrangement, and one with shaking.
