There are many applications that require robust and accurate eye tracking, such as human-computer interface(HCI). In this paper, a novel approach for eye tracking with a principal component analysis on rotated face. In the process of iris detection, intensity information is used. First, for select eye region using principal component analysis. Finally, for eye detection using eye region's intensity. The experimental results show good performance in detecting eye from FERET image include rotate face.

In this paper, it was segmented the face color distribution using YCbCr color model, which is one of the feature-based methods, and preprocessing stage was to be insensitive to the sensitivity for light which is one of the disadvantages for the feature-based methods by the quantization. In addition, it has raised the accuracy of image synthesis with characteristics which is selected the object of the most same image as the shape of pattern using rough set. In this paper, the detection rates of the proposed face detection algorithm was confirmed to be better about 2~3% than the conventional algorithms regardless of the size and direction on the various faces by simulation.

In this paper, we propose a head detection method based on vertical and horizontal pixel histogram analysis in order to overcome drawbacks of the previous head detection approach using Haar-like feature-based face detection. In the proposed method, we create the vertical and horizontal foreground pixel histogram images from the background subtraction image, which represent the number of foreground pixels in the same vertical or horizontal position. Then we extract feature points of a head region by applying Harris corner detection method to the foreground pixel histogram images and by analyzing corner points. The proposal method shows robust head detection results even in the face image covering forelock by hairs or the back view image in which the previous approaches cannot detect the head regions.
In this paper the real-time face region was detected by suggesting the rectangular feature-based classifier and the robust detection algorithm that satisfied the efficiency of computation and detection performance was suggested. By using the detected face region as a recognition input image, in this paper the face recognition method combined with PCA and the multi-layer network which is one of the intelligent classification was suggested and its performance was evaluated. As a pre-processing algorithm of input face image, this method computes the eigenface through PCA and expresses the training images with it as a fundamental vector. Each image takes the set of weights for the fundamental vector as a feature vector and it reduces the dimension of image at the same time, and then the face recognition is performed by inputting the multi-layer neural network.

To make a robust object tracking and identifying system for an intelligent robot and/or home system, heterogeneous sensor fusion between visible ray system and infrared ray system is proposed. The proposed system separates the object by combining the ROI (Region of Interest) estimated from two different images based on a heterogeneous sensor that consolidates the ordinary CCD camera and the IR (Infrared) camera. Human's body and face are detected in both images by using different algorithms, such as histogram, optical-flow, skin-color model and Haar model. Also the pose of human body is estimated from the result of body detection in IR image by using PCA algorithm along with AdaBoost algorithm. Then, the results from each detection algorithm are fused to extract the best detection result. To verify the heterogeneous sensor fusion system, few experiments were done in various environments. From the experimental results, the system seems to have good tracking and identification performance regardless of the environmental changes. The application area of the proposed system is not limited to robot or home system but the surveillance system and military system.

Biometrics identification using multiple modalities has attracted the attention of many researchers as it produces more robust and trustworthy results than single modality biometrics. In this paper, we present a novel multimodal recognition system that trains a deep learning network to automatically learn features after extracting multiple biometric modalities from a single data source, i.e., facial video clips. Utilizing different modalities, i.e., left ear, left profile face, frontal face, right profile face, and right ear, present in the facial video clips, we train supervised denoising auto-encoders to automatically extract robust and non-redundant features. The automatically learned features are then used to train modality specific sparse classifiers to perform the multimodal recognition. Moreover, the proposed technique has proven robust when some of the above modalities were missing during the testing. The proposed system has three main components that are responsible for detection, which consists of modality specific detectors to automatically detect images of different modalities present in facial video clips; feature selection, which uses supervised denoising sparse auto-encoders network to capture discriminative representations that are robust to the illumination and pose variations; and classification, which consists of a set of modality specific sparse representation classifiers for unimodal recognition, followed by score level fusion of the recognition results of the available modalities. Experiments conducted on the constrained facial video dataset (WVU) and the unconstrained facial video dataset (HONDA/UCSD), resulted in a 99.17% and 97.14% Rank-1 recognition rates, respectively. The multimodal recognition accuracy demonstrates the superiority and robustness of the proposed approach irrespective of the illumination, non-planar movement, and pose variations present in the video clips even in the situation of missing modalities.

In this paper, we propose a robust pupil detection method using rank order filter and pixel value difference in facial image. We have detected the potential pupil candidates using rank order filter. Many false pupil candidates found at eyebrow are removed using the fact that the pixel difference is much at the boundary between pupil and sclera. The rest pupil candidates are grouped into pairs. Each pair is verified according to geometric constraints such as the angle and the distance between two candidates. A fitness function is obtained for each pair using the pixel values of two pupil regions, we select a pair with the smallest fitness value as a final pupil. The experiments have been performed for 400 images of the BioID face database. The results show that it achieves more than 90% accuracy, and especially the proposed method improves the detection rate and high accuracy for face with spectacle.

Biometric recognition systems have been widely used for information security. Among the most popular biometric traits, there are fingerprint and face due to their high recognition accuracies. However, the security system that uses face recognition as the login method are vulnerable to face-spoofing attacks, from using printed photo or video of the valid user. In this study, we propose a fast and robust method to detect face-spoofing attacks based on the analysis of spatial frequency differences between the real and fake videos. We found that the effect of a spoofing attack stands out more prominently in certain regions of the 2D Fourier spectra and, therefore, it is adequate to use the information about those regions to classify the input video or image as real or fake. We adopt a divide-conquer-aggregate approach, where we first divide the frequency domain image into local blocks, classify each local block independently, and then aggregate all the classification results by the weighted-sum approach. The effectiveness of the methodology is demonstrated using two different publicly available databases, namely: 1) Replay Attack Database and 2) CASIA-Face Anti-Spoofing Database. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides state-of-the-art performance by processing fewer frames of each video.

In this paper, a new face detection method that is more accurate than the conventional methods is proposed. This method utilizes a hybrid of Hausdorff distance based on the geometric similarity between the two sets of points and the LBP distance based on the distribution of local micro texture of an image. The parameters for normalization and the optimal blending factor of the two different metrics were calculated from training sample images. Popularly used face database was used to show that the proposed method is more effective and robust to the variation of the pose, illumination, and back ground than the methods based on the Hausdorff distance or LBP distance. In the particular case, the average error distance between the detected and the true face location was reduced to 47.9% of the result of LBP method, and 22.8% of the result of Hausdorff method.

The work presented in this paper describes a Hidden Markov Model(HMM)-based framework for face recognition and face detection. The observation vectors used to characterize the statics of the HMM are obtained using the coefficients of the Karhuman-Loves Transform(KLT). The face recognition method presented in this paper reduces significantly the computational complexity of previous HMM-based face recognition systems, while slightly improving the recognition rate. In addition, the suggested method is more effective than the exiting ones in face extraction in terms of accuracy and others even under complex changes to the surroundings such as lighting.
