This article describes a robust state estimation method which enables to produce reliable estimates in spite of heavy perturbation including plant uncertainty and external disturbances. The main idea is to combine the standard state estimator with the perturbation observer in the estimator frame. The perturbation observer reflects equivalent quantity of plant uncertainty and external disturbances during the estimation process so that the state estimator dynamics gets as close as possible to the real plant dynamics. The robust state estimator proposed in this paper is given in a recursive discrete-time form which is very useful fur implementation purpose. In terms of the error dynamics derived for the robust state estimator, we discuss the stability issue and noise sensitivity. The effectiveness and practicality of the robust state estimator are verified through numerical examples and experimental results.

In this paper, a robust filter is proposed to effectively estimate the system states in the case where system model uncertainties as well as disturbances are present. The proposed robust filter is constructed based on the linear approximation methods for a general nonlinear uncertain system with an integral quadratic constraint. We also derive the important characteristic of the proposed filter, a modified $H_{\infty}$ performance index. Analysis results show that the proposed filter has robustness against disturbances, such as process and measurement noises, and against parameter uncertainties. Simulation results show that the proposed filter effectively improves the performance.
In this paper, we propose a robust controller for motion control of n-link robot manipulators using visual feedback. The desired joint velocity and acceleration is obtained by the feature-based visual systems and is used in the joint velocity control loop for trajectory control of the robot manipulator. We design a robust controller that compensates for bounded parametric uncertainties of robot dynamics. The stability analysis of robust joint velocity control system is shown by Lyapunov Method. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by simulation results on the 5-link robot manipulators with two degree of freedom.
During the past several decades, the Taguchi robust design method has been widely used in various fields successfully. On the other hand, some researchers and practitioners have criticized the method with respect to the way of utilizing orthogonal arrays, the signal-to-noise ratio as a performance measure, data analysis methods, etc., and proposed alternative approaches to robust design. This paper introduces the Taguchi method first, evaluates the validity of the criticisms, and discusses advantages and disadvantages of each alternative. Finally, research issues to be addressed for effective robust design are presented.
When the controller designed by the $H{\infty}$ control technique is applied to the object system, sometimes the controller does not satisfy the robust stability and robust performance but only satisfy the nominal performance. In this paper, we derive the region on the frequency response curve of the open-loop transfer function which satisfy the robustness and robust performance of the designed controller. We also derive the region for the suitableness of the weighting function on the frequency response curve of the weighting function. We showed that the robust stability and the robust performance of the $H{\infty}$ optimal control)or by applying the designed controller on an electromechanical actuator system could be improved by determining parameter ${\gamma}$ and weighting function gain ${\alpha}$ using the derived region.
Robust stable analysis with the system bounded parameteric variation is very important among the various control theory. This study is to investigate the robust stable conditions using the quadratic form Lyapunov function in which the coefficient matrix is affined linear system. The quadratic stability using the quadratic form Lyapunov function is not investigated yet. The Lyapunov unction is robust stable not to be dependent by the variable parameters, which means that the Lyapunov function is conservative. We suggest the robust stable conditions in the Lyapunov function in which the variable parameters are dependent in order to reduce the conservativeness of quadratic stability.
Design optimization of layered plates bonding process is conducted to achieve high product quality by considering uncertainties in a manufacturing process. During the cooling process of the sequential sub-processes, different thermal expansion coefficients lead to residual stress and displacement. thus resulting in defects on the surface of the adherent. So robust process optimization is performed to minimize the residual stress mean and variation of the assembly while constraining the distortion as well as the instantaneous maximum stress to the allowable limits. In robust process optimization, the dimension reduction (DR) method is employed to quantify both reliability and quality of the layered plate bonding. Using this method. the average and standard deviation is estimated. Response surface is constructed using the statistical data obtained by the DRM for robust objectives and constraints. from which the optimum solution is obtained.

The classical method for regression analysis is the least squares method. However, if the data contain significant outliers, the least squares estimator can be broken down by outliers. To remedy this problem, the robust methods are important complement to the least squares method. Robust methods down weighs or completely ignore the outliers. This is not always best because the outliers can contain some very important information about the population. If they can be detected, the outliers can be further inspected and appropriate action can be taken based on the results. In this paper, I propose a sequential outlier test to identify outliers. It is based on the nonrobust estimate and the robust estimate of scatter of a robust regression residuals and is applied in forward procedure, removing the most extreme data at each step, until the test fails to detect outliers. Unlike other forward procedures, the present one is unaffected by swamping or masking effects because the statistics is based on the robust regression residuals. I show the asymptotic distribution of the test statistics and apply the test to several real data and simulated data for the test to be shown to perform fairly well.
Robust Design(RD) is a cost-effective methodology to determine the optimal settings of control factors that make a product performance insensitive to the influence of noise factors. To better facilitate the robust design optimization, a dual response surface approach, which models both the process mean and standard deviation as separate response surfaces, has been successfully accepted by researchers and practitioners. However, the construction of response surface approximations has been limited to problems with only a few variables, mainly due to an excessive number of experimental runs necessary to fit sufficiently accurate models. In this regard, an innovative response surface approach has been proposed to investigate robust design optimization problems with larger number of variables. Response surfaces for process mean and standard deviation are partitioned and estimated based on the multi-level approximation method, which may reduce the number of experimental runs necessary for fitting response surface models to a great extent. The applicability and usefulness of proposed approach have been demonstrated through an illustrative example.
Most optimization problems do not consider tolerance of design variables and design parameters. Ignorance of these tolerances may not fit for the practical problems and can lead to an unexpected conclusion. That is why we suggest robust optimization considering tolerances in both design variables and problem parameters. Using robust optimization, we designed minimum weight annular finned heat transfer tube subject to constraints on limitation of pressure difference and minimum value of total heat transfer. Consequently, robust optimization satisfies tolerance considered practical problems.
