Measuring Performance to Engage the Extended Project Team in Construction

  • In construction, stakeholders of extended project team play a key role in the overall project performance. Successful integration of stakeholders demands for good management practices at strategic, operational and project levels. Targets and measures to improve the stakeholder performance encourage the creativity and willingness of stakeholders of extended project team to develop the better ways to achieve the project objectives. This paper presents a generic descriptive method, showing how stakeholder's ability and influence impacts on project performance in the construction sector. The findings of a series of interviews with key informants are presented and the following main conclusion is drawn: improving project performance through stakeholder's contribution and measuring their performance can strengthen the project performance. This innovative approach which redefines the process of improving the project performance in construction projects will be of interest to those who intend to manage the projects in practice as well as to those who interested in advancing theory.

  • In this paper, an integration of stochastic dynamic programming (SDP), integer goal programming (IGP) and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is proposed to handle multiobjective-multicriteria sequential decision making problems under uncertainty inherent in R & D investment planning. SDP has its capability to handle problems which are sequential and stochastic. In the SDP model, the probabilities of the funding levels in any time period are generated using a subjective model which employs functional relationships among interrelated parameters, scenarios of future budget availability and subjective inputs elicited from a group of decision makers. The SDP model primarily yields an optimal investment planning policy considering the possibility that actual funding received may be less than anticipated one and thus the projects being selected under the anticipated budget would be interrupted. IGP is used to handle the multiobjective issues such as tradoff between economic benefit and technology accumulation level. Other managerial concerns related to the determination of the optimal project portifolio within each stage of the SDP model. including project selection, project scheduling and annual budget allocation are also determined by the IGP. AHP is proposed for generating scenario-based transformation probabilities under budgetary uncertainty and for quantifying the environmental risk to be considered.

Factors Affecting the Behavioral Intention and Behavior of Using E-Wallets of Youth in Vietnam

  • The study examines an empirical case that explores the key constructs of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) (Venkatesh, Morris, Davis & Davis, 2003) and the relationship between security and privacy of the Theory of Perceived Risk (TPR) (Bauer, 1960). This study employs survey data of 200 young Internet users aged 18 to 25. The study was conducted through two steps: preliminary research by qualitative research method to form the official research scale then formal research by quantitative research method using CFA and SEM to test the research model. The research results show that performance expectancy and social influence significantly predict behavioral intention to use e-wallets in payment. In contrast, the factors, namely, security and privacy, and effort expectancy, are statistically insignificant on behavioral intention. Nevertheless, the facilitating conditions factor still affects the behavior of using e-wallets. The study proposes a model to generalize the online payment environment through the integration of UTAUT and TPR models that are important for online payment management and researchers in the technology environment. The findings of this study suggest that social influence significantly affects the intention of young people to use e-wallets instead of security and privacy.

  • 본 연구는 가스 산업체에서 안전관리, 건설공정, 운영관리 등을 통합할 수 있는 새로운 정보화 모델, 즉 PIIS 모델을 제안하고자 한다. 여기서 개발된 PIIS 모델을 기반으로 가스설비를 통합관리 한다면 안전 및 위험관리를 극대화 할 수 있고, 동시에 생산성과 원가절감 효과를 증대시킬 수 있는 장점이 있다. 따라서 PIIS 시스템의 도입은 동기화와 통합화를 안정적으로 가져갈 수 있다는 측면에서 가스 공급자와 소비자 상호간에 이윤을 공유하게 된다. 결과, PIIS 운영체계는 인수기지의 건설단계에서 도입하는 것이 보다 효과적이지만. 천연가스의 탐사 단계부터 최종 소비자에게 공급되는 전체 라인에 적용하는 것이 가스업체의 생산성, 안전성, 경제성에 분명한 이익을 제공할 것이다.

Optical Vehicle to Vehicle Communications for Autonomous Mirrorless Cars

  • Autonomous cars require the integration of multiple communication systems for driving safety. Many carmakers unveil mirrorless concept cars aiming to replace rear and sideview mirrors in vehicles with camera monitoring systems, which eliminate blind spots and reduce risk. This paper presents optical vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications for autonomous mirrorless cars. The flicker-free light emitting diode (LED) light sources, providing illumination and data transmission simultaneously, and a high speed camera are used as transmitters and a receiver in the OCC link, respectively. The rear side vehicle transmits both future action data and vehicle type data using a headlamp or daytime running light, and the front vehicle can receive OCC data from the camera that replaces side mirrors so as not to prevent accidents while driving. Experimental results showed that action and vehicle type information were sent by LED light sources successfully to the front vehicle's camera via the OCC link and proved that OCC-based V2V communications for mirrorless cars can be a viable solution to improve driving safety.

  • 항공전자 시스템은 유지비용 감소 및 운용성능 향상을 위하여 기능을 모듈화, 통합화 설계를 적용한 모듈 통합형 항공 전자 시스템으로 개발 되어지고 있으며, 다양한 임무 제어 수행을 위해서 가상화 기술을 적용한 파티셔닝 운용체제를 적용 하고 있다. 가상화 기술을 적용 할 경우 CPU 처리 부하 분배는 중요한 고려 대상이며, 특히 입출력 처리 시간에 대한 불확실성은 안정성 있는 항공전자 시스템 설계에 있어 위험 요소 중 하나이다. 본 논문에서는 유즈케이스를 통해 입/출력 처리 방식에 따르는 CPU 처리 부하량을 비교 분석하여 공간적/시간적 파티셔닝 예시에 적용함으로써 입/출력 처리 방식의 영향성을 검토하고자 한다.

Factors Affecting Quality of Internal Control: A Case Study of Listed Banks in Vietnam

  • Internal control is important for monitoring operations of organizations. In order to achieve the quality of internal control, organizations need to recognize different perspectives in which the components of internal control play a decisive role. Internal control is a process designed by the manager and it is applied within the organization to provide reasonable assurance of the reliability of financial information and to comply with policies, procedures, rules, regulations and laws. The article uses the ordinary least squares method and the seven-point Likert scale to test the variables affecting the quality of internal control in 18 Vietnamese listed banks. The article surveyed 179 leaders of listed banks. The results show that there are three variables out of a total of five variables that positively affect the quality of internal control, including the control environment, control activities, and monitoring. Accordingly, the managers of Vietnamese listed banks need to pay attention to building a corporate culture environment, improve the quality of control activities, and periodically and regularly conduct the monitoring. It contributes to improving the quality of internal control and is also an opportunity to increase economic benefits for Vietnamese listed banks in the context of international economic integration.

  • 최근 해킹 기법의 발전으로 사이버테러를 비롯한 APT공격이 증가하고 있다. 이는 정보기술환경이 모바일, 클라우드, BYOD 기반으로 변화함에 따라 새로운 취약점 또한 증가하고 있기 때문이다. 그러나 기존의 보안 모델은 대응과 치료를 중심으로 적용되고 있어 변화된 침입 위협에 대한 근본적이 방어책을 제시하지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 예방 중심의 보안 모델을 제안한다. 본 연구에서 제안하는 모델은, 궁극적으로 보안공격에 대응하기 위해서는 계정, 권한, 인증, 감사추적 및 이상행위 감시라는 것이 매우 중요하다는 관점에서 수립된 모델이다. 본 연구의 결과는 다양한 보안위협요소에 효과적으로 대응할 수 있는 프로세스를 강화함으로써, 끊임없이 진화하는 새로운 유형의 공격에 대비하고, 정보시스템의 신뢰성을 확보할 수 있는 참조모델로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

Cardiac Regeneration with Human Pluripotent Stem Cell-Derived Cardiomyocytes

  • Embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), which are collectively called pluripotent stem cells (PSCs), have emerged as a promising source for regenerative medicine. Particularly, human pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hPSC-CMs) have shown robust potential for regenerating injured heart. Over the past two decades, protocols to differentiate hPSCs into CMs at high efficiency have been developed, opening the door for clinical application. Studies further demonstrated therapeutic effects of hPSC-CMs in small and large animal models and the underlying mechanisms of cardiac repair. However, gaps remain in explanations of the therapeutic effects of engrafted hPSC-CMs. In addition, bioengineering technologies improved survival and therapeutic effects of hPSC-CMs in vivo. While most of the original concerns associated with the use of hPSCs have been addressed, several issues remain to be resolved such as immaturity of transplanted cells, lack of electrical integration leading to arrhythmogenic risk, and tumorigenicity. Cell therapy with hPSC-CMs has shown great potential for biological therapy of injured heart; however, more studies are needed to ensure the therapeutic effects, underlying mechanisms, and safety, before this technology can be applied clinically.

A Web-GIS Based Monitoring Module for Illegal Dumping in Smart Cities

  • This study was conducted to develop a Web-GIS based monitoring module of smart city that can effectively respond, manage and improve situation in all stages of illegal dumping management on a city scale. First, five technologies were set for the core technical elements of the module configuration. Five core technical elements are as follows; video screening technology based on motion vector analysis, human behavior detection based on intelligent video analytics technology, mobile app for receiving civil complaints about illegal dumping, illegal dumping risk model and street cleanliness map, Web-GIS based situation monitoring technology. The development contents and results for each set of core technical elements were evaluated. Finally, a Web-GIS based 'illegal dumping monitoring module' was proposed. It is possible to collect and analyze city data at the local government level through operating the proposed module. Based on this, it is able to effectively detect illegal dumpers at relatively low cost and identify the tendency of illegal dumping by systematically managing habitual occurrence areas. In the future, it is expected to be developed in the form of an add-on module of the smart city integration platform operated by local governments to ensure interoperability and scalability.
