  • This paper presents the result of survey of case study for Harmonics in electrical Installations of buildings. Recently, many power electronic equipments(power converter, computers, air conditioners electronic ballasts for fluorescent lamps and so on) are used in office buildings, and harmonic current from them influence the other equipments in a distribution line. Notably, voltage distortion or voltage harmonics may approach or exceed is allowable level in power distribution system. Individual electric power consumers and end-users and responsible for reducing current harmonics while companies or utilities are responsible for reducing voltage harmonics at the point of common coupling in distribution system. As for harmonics, which one of the electric power qualities, it becomes important to obtain harmonic voltage/current distribution of the power system precisely because the use of power electronic apparatus in increasing. However, there are some difficulties on evaluating the measured data in comparison with the simulated result. The primary cause was indentitied with the resonance of harmonics form many sources. To suppress harmonics in electrical installations of buildings, one of many methods suggest that resonance frequencies are controlled by modulating the capacities of high-voltage customer's capacitors.

  • Aiming at reducing deaths and injuries involving construction crane operations, OSHA has recently updated its 40-year-old crane safety standards with new rules addressing the use of cranes and derricks in construction. The goal of this change in rule is to deal with the leading causes of fatalities related to crane and derrick operations. Employers in the construction industry are mandated to ensure that employees in the work zone are trained to recognize hazards associated with the use of the equipment and any related duties that they are assigned to perform. However, those responsible at construction sites for the supervision and management of safe crane operations often lack the integrated knowledge of the standards, regulations and best practices for conducting or supervising daily, monthly, or quarterly inspection of cranes. As such, proper planning, management and implementation of crane operations, including inspections are just as paramount to reducing accidents on the construction site. It is important that engineers responsible for the management and planning of crane operations understand the latest OSHA crane and hoisting standards to ensure a safer work environment is maintained. Many on site engineers overseeing crane operations do not have adequate training, experience, and knowledge of the inspection requirements to assess safe crane operation and too often rely on the crane operator's judgement. This paper highlights recent research effort in defining significant changes in new crane and hoisting standards and provides basis for safety construction operations.

$Cr^{3+}$ Luminescent centers in $BeAl_6O_{10}$ crystal

  • The fluorescence emission spectrum of Cr$^{3+}$ doped BeAl$_{6}$ O$_{10}$ crystals at 300 K contains a broad band, three R-like lines and another emission lines. It has been identified by a lifetime resolution spectroscopic technique that there are three kinds of single-Cr$^{3+}$ centers, Cr(I), Cr(II), Cr(III), in this crystal. Cr(I) and Cr(II) are high-crystal field centers responsible for the three main "R-lines", and Cr(III) is a low-crystal field center responsible for the main broad band emission.   • The flow visualization is conducted in order to investigate an unsteady flight characteristic of a model dragonfly. The flapping wings are analyzed using smoke-wire and high speed camera. The results of this experiment show that three mechanisms and high incidence angle of the wings are responsible for the lift. The leading edge vortex, which is induced by the rapid acceleration of the wing at the beginning of a stroke, causes the lift enhancement. The delayed stall during the stroke and the fast supination and pronation of the wing near the end of each stroke are also responsible for the lift generation.

  • In CDMA based mobile communication network, signaling messages are routed through Signaling Transfer Point(STP) which is responsible for MTP layer 3 switching. As WCDMA based UMTS network is considered as next generation technology allowing global roaming services, all nodes in networks have their own identity number called Global Title(GT). Therefore, it is essential to introduce Signaling Gateway(SG) responsible for SCCP layer switching to solve the problem each node has all GT tables including even all overseas nodes. In this paper, we propose the signaling network architecture in UMTS networks using SG and we show that we can reduce CAPEX and OPEX in each node. To show the validity of the proposed method some simulations are given in which the results can be expected by intuitive observation.

ONO Ruptures Caused by ONO Implantation in a SONOS Non-Volatile Memory Device

  • The oxide-nitride-oxide (ONO) deposition process was added to the beginning of a 0.25 ${\mu}m$ embedded polysiliconoxide-nitride-oxide-silicon (SONOS) process before all of the logic well implantation processes in order to maintain the characteristics of basic CMOS(complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) logic technology. The system subsequently suffered severe ONO rupture failure. The damage was caused by the ONO implantation and was responsible for the ONO rupture failure in the embedded SONOS process. Furthermore, based on the experimental results as well as an implanted ion's energy loss model, processes primarily producing permanent displacement damages responsible for the ONO rupture failure were investigated for the embedded SONOS process.

  • This study aims to introduce the ENACT model, which is a systematic teaching-learning model for cultivating social responsibility of science and engineering college students, and to discuss its educational implications. For the development of the ENACT model, we conducted extensive literature reviews on RRI, STEM education, and science and technology studies (STS). In addition, we examined exemplary overseas education programs emphasizing social responsibility of scientists/engineers and citizens. The ENACT model consists of five steps; 1) Engage in SSIs, 2) Navigate SSIs, 3) Anticipate consequences, 4) Conduct scientific and engineering practice, and 5) Take action. This model links Socioscientific Issues (SSI) education with engineering education, dividing the major elements of social responsibility education for scientists and engineers into the dimensions of epistemology and praxis, and reflected them in the model. This effort enables science and engineering college students to pursue more responsible and sustainable development by carrying out the responsible problem-solving process based on an understanding of the nature of science and technology. We plan to implement ENACT model based programs for science and engineering college students and to examine the effects.

  • Differentially Responsible Adaptive Critic Learning technique is proposed for learning the control technique with multiple control inputs as in robot system using reinforcement learning. The reinforcement learning is a self-learning technique which learns the control skill based on the critic information Learning is a after a long series of control actions. The Adaptive Critic Learning (ACL) is the representative reinforcement learning structure. The ACL maximizes the learning performance using the two learning modules called the action and the critic modules which exploit the external critic value obtained seldomly. Drawback of the ACL is the fact that application of the ACL is limited to the single input system. In the proposed Differentially Responsible Action Dependant Adaptive Critic learning structure, the critic function is constructed as a function of control input elements. The responsibility of the individual control action element is computed based on the partial derivative of the critic function in terms of each control action element. The proposed learning structure has been constructed with the CMAC neural networks and some simulations have been done upon the two dimensional Cart-Role system and robot squatting problem. The simulation results are included.

The effect of particle size on tool wear of SiCp-reinforced metal matrix composite

  • The effect of particle sizes of the metal matrix composites containing 10 wt.%SiCp was investigated with using various tools. The results showed that tool life decreased considerably with increasing particle size and cutting speed. The wear resistance of TiC-coated tools was considerably higher than that of the other tools. It was observed that abrasive wear was the main responsible mechanism for wear of the tool thermal cracks were at high speed while a built-edge formation was also evident at lower speed.

  • Many application in human computer interaction(HCI) require tacking a human face and facial features. In this paper we propose efficient parallel processing system for face tracking under heterogeneous networked. To track a face in the video image we use the skin color information and connected components. In terms of parallelism we choose the master-slave model which has thread for each processes, master and slaves, The threads are responsible for real computation in each process. By placing queues between the threads we give flexibility of data flowing
