  • As the demands for lightweight construction and precision grow, there is an increasing interest on hydroforming technology. This paper deals with designing automobile subframe for applying welded blanks hydroforming. In applying welded blanks hydroforming to automobile subframe, it is a serious problem that blanks wrinkle in deformed shape. To suppress wrinklings in blanks, the sections of the die where blanks wrinkled is modified. In addition to this, it is intended that the sum of thickness variation about wrinkling regions be minimized. For this purpose, parameters for influencing formability are selected and evaluated using orthogonal array. Among these parameters, parameters having a major effect on formability are selected again. Using CCD(central composite design) with the selected parameters, response surface is build up and optimal design is performed.

  • The present paper proposes a modal analysis procedure to obtain exact modal parameters (natural frequencies, damping ratios, eigenvectors) for general, non-uniform beam-like structures. The proposed method includes a derivation of the system dynamic matrix for a Timoshenko beam element. The proposed method provides not only exact modal parameters but also exact frequency response functions (FRFs) for general beam structures. A time domain analysis method is also proposed. Two examples are provided for validating and illustrating the proposed method. The first numerical example compares the proposed method with FEM. The second example deals with a non-uniform beam structure supported in joints with damping property. The numerical study proves that the proposed method is useful for the dynamic analysis of continuous systems consisting of beam-like structures.

  • The unbalance response analysis is one of the essential area in the forced vibration analysis of rotor bearing systems because of it usefulness in balancing and diagnosis as well as identification of parameters involved in rotor bearing systems. However some unbalance responses are not measurable due to the fact that rotor bearing systems are often encapsulated by fixtures or safety protectors. In the present paper, an efficent estimation scheme for unmeasured unbalance responses in rotor bearing systems is developed. The fundamental fearture of the proposed method is characterized by the linear formulae to estimate the unbalance responses from the measured unbalance responses and the finite element auxilliary model equation which is constructed to be identical to the prototype excluding the uncertain parameters such as bearing coefficients. The identification formulae for bearing parameters are also derived by using the unbalance response and the finite elements auxiliary model. Simulation is provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • We performed frequency response measurements of four tuning fork crystal oscillators with different sizes and analyzed their measured electrical equivalent circuit parameters of R, L, $C_S$, and $C_P$ as functions of the linear dimensions, length, width, and thickness. We observed that R and L showed an decreasing behavior with increasing length while $C_S$, and $C_P$ showed an increasing behavior. Similar dependences of the electrical parameters on thickness were also observed. On the contrary, any noticeable dependence of these parameters on width has not been found.

  • In this study, the process parameters in powder compaction are optimized for getting high relative densities. To find optimized parameters, the analytic models of powder compaction are firstly prepared by 2-dimensional rod arrays with random green densities using a quasi-random multi-particle array. Then, using finite element method, the changes in relative densities are analyzed by varying the size of the particle, the amplitude of cyclic compaction, and the coefficient of friction, which influence the relative density in cyclic compactions. After the analytic function of relative density associated process parameters are formulated by aid of the response surface method, the optimal conditions in powder compaction process are found by the grid search method.

  • In this paper, a dynamic modeling approach is introduced to identify the dynamic characteristics of the structural/mechanical joints within an one-dimensional structure. A structural joint is represented by the four-pole parameters and the four-pole parameters are determined from the measured frequency response functions by using the spectral element method. As the illustrative examples, a cantilevered beam a clamped-clamped beam, both consist of two beams connected by a bolted joint, are investigated to evaluate the present modeling approach. It is found that the dynamic responses predicted by using the identified for-pole parameters for the bolted joint are well agreed with the measured dynamic responses measured

  • A Bayesian response surface updating procedure is applied in order to update the parameters of the covariance function of a random field for concrete properties based on a limited number of available measurements. Formulas as well as a numerical algorithm are presented in order to update the parameters of response surfaces using Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulations. The parameters of the covariance function are often based on some kind of expert judgment due the lack of sufficient measurement data. However, a Bayesian updating technique enables to estimate the parameters of the covariance function more rigorously and with less ambiguity. Prior information can be incorporated in the form of vague or informative priors. The proposed estimation procedure is evaluated through numerical simulations and compared to the commonly used least square method.

  • In this paper, we constructed the analytic model of control valve as a function of electric and geometric parameters, and analyzed the influence of the design parameters on the dynamic characteristics. For improving the dynamic characteristics, optimal design is conducted by applying sequential quadratic programming method to the analytic model. This optimal design aims to minimize the response time and maximize force efficiency. By this procedure, control valve can be designed to have fast response in motion.

  • The impulse response function are studied using time domain Born approximation in two cases; firstly when the material parameters of a flaw are constant, secondly when the parameters are varying with positions. From the impulse response functions, characteristics can be learned about a flaw with high symmetry.

  • The unbalance response analysis is one of the essential area in the forced vibration analysis of rotor-bearing systems. Local bearing parameters in ortor-bearing systems are the major sources which give rise to a difficulty in unbalance response computation due to the complicated dynamic properties such as rotational speed dependency and anisotropy. In the present paper, an exact condensation procedure is introduced to easily take into account bearing parameters in computation of unbalance responses for rotor bearing systems. The present method is illustrated through a numerical example and compared with the conventional method.
