We investigate the performance of multi-body wave energy converters (WECs). This investigation considers multiple scattering of water waves by the buoys of a WEC under the generalized mode approach. Predominantly, the effect of a WEC's configuration on its energy extraction is studied in this research. First, single-row terminator and single-column attenuator arrays of vertical cylinders have been studied. The performance of these attenuator arrays shows that the wall effect induced by the periodic buoys influences the wave propagation and energy extraction in these WECs. Further studies show that a single-row terminator array of vertical cylinders performs better than the corresponding single-column attenuator array. Subsequently, multi-row terminator arrays of vertical cylinders are investigated by conducting a parametric study. This parametric study shows that the hydrodynamic property of three resonance phenomena makes energy extraction efficiency drop down, and the magnitude of energy extracted oscillates between the resonance points in these WECs. Finally, a 4×8 terminator array of vertical cylinders is studied to determine the effect of various dx (x-directional distance between adjacent rows) within this WEC on its performance. In particular, this study enforces at least two equal dx values within the 4×8 terminator array of vertical cylinders. It shows that a small value of this dx leads to better energy extraction efficiency in some of these various dx arrays than that of a corresponding regular array with the same dx.

The problem of elastic wave resonance scattering from elastic targets is studied in this paper. A new resonance formalism to extract the elastic resonance information of the target from scattered elastic waves is introduced. The proposed resonance formalism is an extension of the works developed for acoustic wave scattering problems by the author. The classical resonance scattering theory computes reasonable magnitude information of the resonances in each partial wave, but the phase behaves in somewhat irregular way, therefore, is not clearly explainable. The proposed method is developed to obtain physically meaningful magnitude and phase of the resonances. As an example problem, elastic wave scattering from an infinitely-long elastic cylinder was analyzed by the proposed method and compared to the results by RST. In case of no mode conversion, both methods generate identical magnitude. However, the new method computes exact $\pi$ radian phase shills through resonances and anti-resonances while RST produces physically unexplainable phases. In case of mode conversion, in addition to the phase even magnitudes are different. The phase shifts through resonances and antiresonances obtained by the proposed method are not exactly $\pi$ radians due to energy leak by mode conversion. But, the phases by the proposed method show reasonable and intuitively correct behavior compared to those by RST.

The unique phenomenon that jet flow kinetic energy is converted to thermal energy through thermoacoustic resonance can be applied for the multiple ignition of liquid rocket engines. The present article includes the basic principle and theory behind the phenomenon as well as major outstanding, previous research works. The thermoacoustic phenomenon is affected by underexpanded jet flow characteristics from a nozzle, geometries of a nozzle and a resonance tube, and chemical composition of jet flow. The paper concludes with discussion what should be considered as crucial issues for the future research on the development of a multiple ignition system of liquid rocket engines.
Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) is a new emerging neurosurgical procedure applied in a wide range of clinical fields. It can generate high-intensity energy at the focal zone in deep body areas without requiring incision of soft tissues. Although the effectiveness of the focused ultrasound technique had not been recognized because of the skull being a main barrier in the transmission of acoustic energy, the development of hemispheric distribution of ultrasound transducer phased arrays has solved this issue and enabled the performance of true transcranial procedures. Advanced imaging technologies such as magnetic resonance thermometry could enhance the safety of MRgFUS. The current clinical applications of MRgFUS in neurosurgery involve stereotactic ablative treatments for patients with essential tremor, Parkinson's disease, obsessive-compulsive disorder, major depressive disorder, or neuropathic pain. Other potential treatment candidates being examined in ongoing clinical trials include brain tumors, Alzheimer's disease, and epilepsy, based on MRgFUS abilities of thermal ablation and opening the blood-brain barrier. With the development of ultrasound technology to overcome the limitations, MRgFUS is gradually expanding the therapeutic field for intractable neurological disorders and serving as a trail for a promising future in noninvasive and safe neurosurgical care.
Because vocal technique is the basis of singing a song beautifully, so this study was undertaken to use the scientific and correct technique in order to get much better musical expressions. Shimadzu X - ray remote control TV system was used for checking the supporting state of diaphragmatic respiration after 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 sec during phonation in the state of full inhalation between professional singer and non - professional singer. Shimadzu Magnet $nex-{\alpha}$(SMT -50CX/H) was used for examining the scattering state from the resonance of nasal cavity to that of cranial cavity on the basis of diaphragmatic respiration. The results obtained were summerized as follows : 1. The resonance of cranial cavity must be scattered by the energy of diaphragmatic respiration after gathering the foci of the fundamental 5 vowels. 2. while raising the epiglottis, the resonance of nasal cavity must be clearly in order to maintain the resonance of cranial cavity beautifully. 3. We can get musical expressions by maintaining the elasticity of diaphragmatic respiration.

The objective of the paper is to demonstrate the noise reduction characteristics of an air-gap resonator, which is composed of an air gap and a partition sheet. By means of installing the air-gap resonator in an enclosed cavity, acoustic resonance can be effectively suppressed using a small space. In particular, it is revealed from a simple, one-dimensional model that the air-gap resonator serves as the Helmholtz resonator that generally absorbs acoustic resonance energy at its resonance frequency. As a result, the air-8ap resonator also has a resonance frequency, which can be predicted with a simple frequency equation derived in the paper. Finally, verification experiments show that the air-gap resonator can be effectively designed by predicting a reasonable gap thickness using the simple frequency-equation.

This paper provides how to solve the problems analytically and experimentally that occur for testing the water injection pump under development. First of all, water injection pump, based on shaft system dynamic analysis, is verified by measuring the behavior of the shaft system. After the water injection pump is measured, the structural resonances which can cause excessive noise, degradation the equipment life and malfunction are found. Therefore, by changing the structural design, the reso- nance should be avoided. Application of the design variables to the experimentally resonance avoid- ance is difficult. So analytically, with application of the design variables, the design will be changed with mode analysis using FEM.

A lithium polymer battery-based 9 kJ/s high-voltage capacitor charger, which comprises two stages, is proposed. A modified LCC resonant converter and resonant circuit are introduced at the first and second stages, respectively. In the first stage, the methods for handling low-voltage and high-current batteries are considered. Delta-wye three-phase transformers are used to generate a high output voltage through the difference between the phase and line-to-line voltages. Another method is placing the series resonant capacitor of the LCC resonant components on the transformer secondary side, which conducts considerably low current compared with the transformer primary side. On the basis of the stable operation of the first charging stage, the secondary charging stage generates final output voltage by using the resonance. This additional stage protects the rectifying diodes from the negative voltage when the output capacitor is discharged for a short time. The inductance and capacitance of the resonance components are selected by considering the resonance charging time. The design procedure for each stage with the aforementioned features is suggested, and its performance is verified by not only simulation but also experimental results.
The purpose of the study is to investigate how uptake counts of $^{201}Tl$ of radioisotopes in the human body could change, when taking computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging right after injecting contrast media. $^{201}Tl$ radioisotope substances of iodine contrast medium, which is a computed tomography contrast medium, and paramagnetic contrast medium, which is an magnetic resonance imaging contrast medium, were used as study materials. First, $^{201}Tl$ was put into 4 cc of normal saline in test tube, and then a computed tomography contrast medium of Iopamidol$^{(R)}$ or Dotarem$^{(R)}$, was put into 2 cc of normal saline in test tube. An magnetic resonance imaging contrast medium of Primovist$^{(R)}$ or Gadovist$^{(R)}$ was also put into 2 cc of normal saline in test tube. Each contrast medium was distributed to make $^{201}Tl$ as 3 mCi, with a total of 4 cc. Gamma camera, low energy high resolution collimator, and pinhole collimator were used to obtain images. The uptake count of $^{201}Tl$ was measured with 1000 frames of images, and obtained after 10 times of repetition. This study revealed that the use of Gadovist$^{(R)}$, which is an magnetic resonance imaging contrast medium, showed the smallest number of uptake count, after measuring $^{201}Tl$ uptake count by low energy high resolution collimator. On the other hand, the use of Iopamidol$^{(R)}$, which is a computed tomography contrast medium, showed the biggest difference in uptake count, when measuring $^{99m}Tc$ uptake count by Pinhole collimator. When examining with gamma camera, using contrast medium and $^{201}Tl$, identifying the changes of uptake count is very important for improving the value of diagnosis.
