Characteristics of a wireless sensor powered by the IDE (interdigitated electrode) embedded piezoelectric cantilever generator were analyzed in order to evaluate its potential for use in wireless sensor applications. The IDE embedded piezoelectric cantilever was designed and fabricated to have a self-resonance frequency of 126 Hz and acceleration of 1.57 G, respectively, for the mechanical resonance with a practical conveyor system in a thermal-power plant. It produced maximum output power of 2.81 mW under the resistive load of $160{\Omega}$ at 126 Hz. The wireless sensor module is electrically connected to a rectifier capacitor with capacity of 0.68 farad and 3.8 V for power supply by the piezoelectric cantilever generator. The unloaded capacitor could be charged as a rate of approximately $365{\mu}V/s$ while the capacitor exhibited that of 0.997 mV/min. during communication under low duty cycle of 0.2%. Therefore, it is considered that the fabricated IDE embedded piezoelectric cantilever generator can be used for wireless sensor applications.

We investigate experimentally and theoretically the splitting of surface plasmon (SP) resonance peaks under TE- and TM-polarized illumination. The SP structure at infrared wavelength is fabricated with a 2-dimensional square periodic array of circular holes penetrating through Au (gold) film. In brief, the processing steps to fabricate the SP structure are as follows. (i) A standard optical lithography was performed to produce to a periodic array of photoresist (PR) circular cylinders. (ii) After the PR pattern, e-beam evaporation was used to deposit a 50-nm thick layer of Au. (iii) A lift-off processing with acetone to remove the PR layer, leading to final structure (pitch, $p=2.2{\mu}m$; aperture size, $d=1.1{\mu}m$) as shown in Fig. 1(a). The transmission is measured using a Nicolet Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) at the incident angle from $0^{\circ}$ to $36^{\circ}$ with a step of $4^{\circ}$ both in TE and TM polarization. Measured first and second order SP resonances at interface between Au and GaAs exhibit the splitting into two branches under TM-polarized light as shown in Fig. 1(b). However, as the incidence angle under TE polarization is increased, the $1^{st}$ order SP resonance peak blue-shifts slightly while the splitting of $2^{nd}$ order SP resonance peak tends to be larger (not shown here). For the purpose of understanding our experimental results qualitatively, SP resonance peak wavelengths can be calculated from momentum matching condition (black circle depicted in Fig. 2(b)), $k_{sp}=k_{\parallel}{\pm}iG_x{\pm}jG_y$, where $k_{sp}$ is the SP wavevector, $k_{\parallel}$ is the in-plane component of incident light wavevector, i and j are SP coupling order, and G is the grating momentum wavevector. Moreover, for better understanding we performed 3D full field electromagnetic simulations of SP structure using a finite integration technique (CST Microwave Studio). Fig. 1(b) shows an excellent agreement between the experimental, calculated and CST-simulated splitting of SP resonance peaks with various incidence angles under TM-polarized illumination (TE results are not shown here). The simulated z-component electric field (Ez) distribution at incident angle, $4^{\circ}$ and $16^{\circ}$ under TM polarization and at the corresponding SP resonance wavelength is shown in Fig. 1(c). The analysis and comparison of theoretical results with experiment indicates a good agreement of the splitting behavior of the surface plasmon resonance modes at oblique incidence both in TE and TM polarization.
The purpose of this raper is to assess the benefits of frequency domain fatigue analysis and compare it with more conventional time domain techniques. The multi-body dynamic analysis, FE analysis and fatigue life prediction technique are applied for the frequency domain fatigue analysis. To obtain the dynamic load history used in the frequency domain fatigue analysis, the computer simulations running over typical road Profiles are carried out by utilizing vehicle dynamic model. The fatigue life estimation for the rear suspension system of small-sized passenger car is performed by using resonance durability analysis technique, and the estimation results are compared with the conventional quasi-static durability analysis results. For the pothole simulation, the percent changes, of the fatigue life between the two durability analysis techniques don't exceed 10%. But for the Belgian road simulation because of the resonance effect, the fatigue life using the resonance durability analysis technique are much smaller estimated than the quasi-static durability analysis results.
In this paper, an oil hydraulic pipeline is terminated by both rotary sinusoidal flow generator at upstream oriffice at down stream. The pulsating pressure wave from generated by the rotary sinusoidal flow generator, is measured by using sensor. In the analysis of this paper, a component of the fundamental frequency is obtained by using Laplace transformation.. The experimental and analytical results make clear that (1) viscosity is significant role in hydraulic pipe. (2) When pulsating frequency is matched with the natural frequency, resonance frequency occured periodically. According to the study proposed here, dynamic pressure in a circular oil pipe is expressed in propagation of pressure wave with respect to frequency and Bessel function. The resonance at oil temperature $20^{\circ}$$0^{\circ}C$ in this study. The abrupt change of gain value is due to effect of resonance frequency. The results of experiment are compared with the calculated results, and agreement of both results is fairly good.
Periostin, a component of extracellular matrix (ECM) protein, is produced and secreted by the fibroblasts that are involved in chronic allergic inflammation diseases and various types of human cancers. Periostin protein is composed of multiple domains including four FAS1 domains which play important roles in cell adhesion and tumor metastasis by interacting with integrins. In spite of their important biological role, the structural information of periosin FAS1 domains was not revealed yet. Recently we systemically prepared various constructs of the FAS1 domains and tried to express them in E. coli. Of them, only single FAS1-II and -IV domains were highly soluble. Circular dichroism (CD) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) studies revealed that the FAS1-IV domain might be suitable for three-dimensional structure determination using NMR spectroscopy.
Most of the user has been used linear load and non-linear load. The former is usually inductive load which is needed power factor compensation, the latter is power conversion system device. Actually two kinds of load is used together in the customer application. Generally capacitor is used for power-factor compensation of inductive load and reduction harmonics of non linear load with reactor. Non-linear load generates harmonic current for its energy conversion process. If harmonic current pass along the low impedance side of distribution system, the magnification of voltage and current is appeared by the series and parallel resonance. As a result, condenser has received a bitter electrical stress by the harmonic component. In this paper, we analyzed that how resonance is changed by the 5-th harmonic current pattern and proposed an alternative plan for non-magnification.
Reactors are connected with capacitors to passive filter circuits for reducing harmonics caused by power conversion application. This passive filter frequently gets out of order by voltage and current stress. Especially filter reactor has too much voltage harmonics components, its trouble rate is higher than capacitor. In this paper, we analyzed voltage and current of reactor and capacitor used for passive filter by simulation and measurement. If reactor has a tolerance on variation of reactance value, series resonance frequency is different from originally filter design frequency and parallel resonance can be generated at the close point of the former. Because filter absorbs harmonic component of non-linear load, much of harmonic voltage has been impacted on reactor.
Mapping brain structural and functional connections through the whole brain is essential for understanding brain mechanisms and the physiological bases of brain diseases. Although region specific structural or functional deficits cause brain diseases, the changes of interregional connections could also be important factors of brain diseases. This review will introduce common neuroimaging modalities, including structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), functional MRI (fMRI), diffusion tensor imaging, and other recent neuroimaging analyses methods, such as voxel-based morphometry, cortical thickness analysis, local gyrification index, and shape analysis for structural imaging. Tract-Based Spatial Statistics, TRActs Constrained by UnderLying Anatomy for diffusion MRI, and independent component analysis for fMRI also will also be introduced.
The Young's modulus of a nanoscale titanium (Ti) thin-film was evaluated using a high-speed microcantilever resonating at the megahertz frequency in the present study. A 350 nm thick Ti film was deposited on the surface of a silicon microcantilever, and the morphology of the film was analyzed using the atomic force microscopy. The microcantilever was excited to resonate using an ultrasonic pulser that generates tone burst signals and the resonance frequency shift induced by the deposition of Ti was measured using a Michelson interferometer. The Young's modulus was determined through a modal analysis using the finite element method and the result was validated by the nanoindentation testing, showing good agreement within a relative error of 1.0%. The present study proposes a nanomechanical characterization technique with enhanced accuracy and sensitivity.
