A resistance deviation-to-time interval converter based on dual-slope integration using second generation current conveyors (CCIIs) is designed for connecting resistive bridge sensors with a digital system. It consists of a differential integrator using CCIIs, a voltage comparator, and a digital control logic for controlling four analog switches. Experimental results exhibit that a conversion sensitivity amounts to $15.56{\mu}s/{\Omega}$ over the resistance deviation range of $0-200{\Omega}$ and its linearity error is less than ${\pm}0.02%$. Its temperature stability is less than $220ppm/^{\circ}C$ in the temperature range of $-25-85^{\circ}C$. Power dissipation of the converter is 60.2 mW.
Electrolytic capacitors have been widely used in power electronics system because of the features of large capacitance, small size, high-voltage, and low-cost. Electrolytic capacitors, which is most of the time affected by aging effect, plays a very important role for the power electronics system quality and reliability. Therefore it is important to estimate the parameter of an electrolytic capacitor to predict the failure. The estimation of the equivalent series resistance(ESR) is important parameter in life condition monitoring of electrolytic capacitor. This paper proposes a simple technique to measure the ESR of an electrolytic capacitor. This method uses a switching DC/DC boost converter to measure the DC Bus capacitor ESR of power converter. Main advantage of the proposed method is very simple in technique, consumes very little time and requires only simple instruments. Simulation results are shown to verify the performance of the proposed method.
DC electrolytic capacitor is widely used in the power converter including PWM inverter, switching power supply and PFC Boost converter system because of its large capacitance, small size and low cost. In this paper, basic characteristics of DC electrolytic capacitor vs. frequency is presented and the real-time estimation scheme of ESR and capacitance based on the bandpass filtering is adopted to the single phase boost converter of uninterruptible power supply to diagnose its split dc-link capacitors. The feasibility of this real-time failure prediction monitoring system is verified by the computer simulation of the 5[kW] singe phase PFC half-bridge boost converter.
In case of power electronics, th power loss and EMI noise of IGBT is different depends on a adopting technology with the same power rating. To reduce the EMI noise, we could increase the resistance of gate. But in this case, the power loss of IGBT is increased, In this paper, we simulated the power loss of IGBT with the speed profile of elevator by the changing IGBT type, the voltage between gate and emitter, the resistance of gate in converter and inverter for elevator. To optimize the power electronics with the satisfied life time, It is necessary that we calculate the power loss and the rise of temperature in IGBT with the adopting technology type, the resistence of gate, the voltage between gate and emitter.
A controller to mitigate the destabilizing effect of constant power load (CPL) is proposed for a DC/DC buck-boost converter. The load profile has been considered to be predominantly of CPL type. The negative incremental resistance of the CPL tends to destabilize the feeder system, which may be an input filter or another DC/DC converter. The proposed sliding mode controller aims to ensure system stability under the dominance of CPL. The effectiveness of the controller has been validated through real-time simulation studies and experiments under various operating conditions. The controller has been demonstrated to be robust with respect to variations in supply voltage and load and capable of mitigating instabilities induced by CPL. Furthermore, the controller has been validated using all possible load profiles, which may arise in modern-day DC-distributed power systems.
DC link electrolytic capacitors are widely used in various PWM power converter system, such as adjustable speed driver(ASD) or DC/DC converter. Electrolytic capacitors, which is the most of the time affected by aging effect, plays a very important role for the power electronics system quality and reliability. This objective of this paper is to propose a improvement method to detect the rise of equivalent series resistor(ESR) in order to realize the online failure prediction of electrolytic capacitor for DC link of PWM power converter. The ESR detection scheme is based on the determination of the electrolytic capacitor AC losses calculated from voltage/current measurement using AC coupling. Therefore, the preposed online failure prediction method has the merits of easy ESR computation and circuit simplicity compare with BPF method. Simulation results show the veridity of the proposed on-line ESR estimation method.
