  • In urban life, an interest in safety and demands for safety information about crimes and traffic are increasing. As well, communication on the internet is so active. In this study, we analyze web sites in US, UK, and JP, which have started safety map services, and then we provide basic material for the introduction of safety map into Korea. According to the analysis result, in US and UK, the safety map web sites are administered by the government and provided to the general public. The geographical area is provided around administrative districts and statistical data. In JP, The safety map web site provide not a one sided service but the service that user can directly take a part in, and also there is an web site for crimes against vulnerable people.

  • This study used to the satellite photograph and drew up a flood inundation map. To past used digital map and showed reflect the inundation map and change of the city was difficult. The acquisition of the satellite photograph is easy from internet Site of Korea and is updated quickly. So, used the satellite photograph from flood inundation drawing up of existing and reflected the change of the city. Drawing up method of the inundation map in compliance with the research which sees the reflection of the land use which is actual is possible. Results of HEC-RAS with depth and an inundation location to be show easily. But there is to a combination method of the satellite photographs and GIS data and more objective and the subject the development of the technique which has reached fixed quantity must be researched continuously judges.

  • This paper proposes a fault detection and recovery mechanism for a fault-tolerant Mini-MAP system, and provides detailed techniques for its implementation. This paper considers the fault-tolerant Mini-MAP system which has dual layer structure from the LLC sublayer down to the physical layer to cope with the faults of those layers. For a good fault detection, a redundant and hierarchical fault supervision architecture is proposed and its implementation technique for a stable detection operation is provided. Information for the fault location is provided from data reported with a fault detection and obtained by an additional network diagnosis. The faults are recovered by the stand-by sparing method applied for a dual network composed of two equivalent networks. A network switch mechanism is proposed to achieve a reliable and stable network function. A fault-tolerant Mini-MAP system is implemented by applying the proposed fault detection and recovery mechanism.

  • The problem of outdoor localization can be practically solved by GPS. However, GPS is not perfect and some areas of outdoor navigation should consider other solutions. This research deals with outdoor localization using an elevation map without GPS. This paper proposes a novel feature, elevation moment of inertia (EMOI), which represents the distribution of elevation as a function of distance from a robot in the elevation map. Each cell of an elevation map has its own EMOI, and outdoor localization can be performed by matching EMOIs obtained from the robot and the pre-given elevation map. The experiments and simulations show that the proposed EMOI can be usefully exploited for outdoor localization with an elevation map and this feature can be easily applied to other probabilistic approaches such as Markov localization method.

  • This study defined the animation space as the concept of map based on the space of Joseph Campbell's heroic narrative. The space in which the animated character exists is an image symbolic language that reflects the inner and outer growth stages of the hero. I focused on the spatiality that plays the role of the power to lead the narrative and examined the meaning as the mediator that leads the heroic narrative. First, 6 spatial variables were derived by observing 'Hero's Journey 'which is used as a basis of US commercial animation scenario. Second, spatial variables are defined as 64 zones and proposed as 'Spatial Map Model of the Hero's Journey' (SMMH). Third, the character space of was applied to 'SMMH', and the change of space utilization rate and spatiality and the narrative meaning were analyzed. This study extended the narrative of animation space which was not actively studied to map concept. It is possible to provide a different viewpoint in animation production and research.

  • Global map of science, which is visualizing large scientific domains, can be used to visually analyze the structural relationships between major areas of science. This paper reviewed previous efforts on global science map, and then tried to making a science map of Korea with some new methods. There are several research groups on making global map of science including Dr. Small and Dr. Garfield of ISI (now Thompson Scientific), SCImago research group at the University of Granada, and Dr. Borner's InfoVis Lab at the Indiana University. They called their maps as science map or scientogram and called the activity of mapping science as scientography. Most of the previous works are based on citations between scientific articles. However citation database for Korean journal articles is still under construction. This research tried to make a Korean science map with the text in the proposals suggested for funding from Korean Research Foundation. Two kinds of method for generating networks of scientific fields are used. One is Pathfinder network (PFNet) alogorithm which has been used in several published bibliometric studies. The other is clustering-based network (CBnet) algorithm which was proposed recently as an alternative to PFNet. In order to take into account both views of the two algorithms, the resulting maps are combined to a final science map of Korea.

  • In this paper, we introduce a novel coding method to efficiently enable spatial random access for high resolution video. In terms of resolution and display size, standard display devices (such as cathode-ray tubes. monitors. PDAs, and LCDs) do not sufficiently support high resolution video such as digital cinema and panoramic video. Currently, users have no choice but to view video at lower resolution as a result of down-sampling, or only a partial region of the video due to display size limitations. Our proposed method. which we call the B-map, represents the set of starting locations of the coded segments in a picture frame. This information, or B-map, is first sent to the decoder prior to the coded data stream of the frame and is then used for fast local decoding. To test our method, we compare our B-map with JPEG tiling and the JPEG Resynchronization marker. Experimental results show that the proposed coding method requires less overhead than existing methods during the same decoding time. The results show promise for future panoramic or digital cinema applications.

  • We investigated the effects of both $CaCl_2$ treatment and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) (compared with non-packaging on 'Fuji' apples from the Young-Joo region of Korea. Apples were dined into 5% (w/v) $CaCl_2$ solution for 15 min and then packaged with or without LDPE film (thickness: 0.025 mm) before cold storage at $0^{\circ}C$. Weight loss of applies in film packaging was lower than that of non-packaging applies, and the apple firmness resulting from $CaCl_2$ treatment and MAP was better than that of apples receiving control treatment. Also, $CaCl_2$ treatment and MAP resulted in improvements in titratable acidity, soluble solid content (SSC), and decay rate compared to control treatments. However, no significant differences in vitamin C content were found amongst apples receiving various treatment. the results suggest that a combination of postharvest calcium dipping and plastic film packaging may effectively preserve 'Fuji' apples, and that the combined treatment are better than either individual treatment.

  • The land cover map represent the state of earth surfaces. It can be used as basic data to explore present conditions of earth surfaces and develop future plans for local areas. To produce the land cover map with efficiency, gathering geographic information from satellite images is important. Exporting, building, and managing processes on the land cover information are needed as well. In this study we aim to review the producing process of the level-2 land cover map in detail and enhance it. h present status of the producing process of the land cover map in Korea is reviewed, problems of the process are explored, and measures for improving it are proposed. The criteria for fixing boundaries and providing attributes for the land cover map are proposed. This proposed criteria may solve problems in a present producing process. The improving measures proposed in this study should be continuously revised in future studies.

  • The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport carried out a pilot project for data maintenance in 2011 to ensure the accuracy of cadastral records nationwide, and now trying to reduce the errors such as omission of the cadastral book, inconsistency of land category between cadastral account book and cadastral map, etc. and the boundary between the map boundary, scale, and administrative areas. In this study, we looked at the currents status and problems of the cadastral research, improving the cadastral map, which has been promoted by the government and the cadastral office. In order to revitalize the cadastral map data maintenance project, it is necessary to re-establish the plan for each step for challenging the limitation of current data maintenance, and the master plan for promotion system, and develop manuals to maintain consistency and secure accuracy of cadastral map maintenance, such as "Coverage and Maintenance Guidelines for Cadastral Maps", and secure the national budget for error correction in cadastral map led by government.
