Effects of Communication Oriented Mathematics Lessons on Mathematical Disposition and Academic Achievements (의사소통 중심 수학 수업이 수학적 성향과 학업성취도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study has investigated the way to improve the communication skills emphasized in mathematics education, and analyzed the effects of Communication Oriented Mathematics Lessons on the mathematical disposition and the academic achievements. For this research, two groups of first grade students from D elementary school in Daegu city were selected which had been proved homogeneous in mathematical disposition and academic achievements via a preliminary test. The experimental group was given Communication Oriented Mathematics Lessons (COML) while the control group was given Traditional Classroom-based Instruction (TCI). COML were given along with first grade, first level mathematics for eight weeks, to improve communication skills of the students who were unfamiliar with mathematical communications. The schemes for the education include revising, summarizing, asking questions, and participating. The results of the study were summarized for mathematical disposition and academic achievements. First, COML is effective to evaluate the will to solve problems in the mathematical disposition of the students, and to make it useful for them to live their lives and to learn other subjects. Second, previous studies have shown contrary interpretations on the effects of COML. This study has found that it does not improve the students' scores on the original form of academic achievement test.

Factors Influencing Intention for Human Papillomavirus Vaccination Among Parents with Elementary School Girls (초등여학생 자녀를 둔 부모의 인유두종바이러스(HPV)백신 접종의도 영향요인)

  • Purpose: This descriptive research study aims to investigate influential factors on human papillomavirus vaccines, among parents who have elementary school daughters. Methods: This study was conducted with 210 parents whose children are elementary school girls, aged 9 to 12 years, in G Metropolitan City. Data were collected from August 17 to September 12, 2015 using structured questionnaires. A descriptive statistical analysis, a t-test, a ${\chi}^2-test$, a Fisher's exact test, and a logistic regression using SPSS/WIN 21.0. Results: The influential factors on the human papillomavirus vaccination intention were confirmed to be three variables: cervical cancer knowledge, perceived sensitivity, and perceived barriers. Conclusion: An intervention program, both to increase the sensitivity of vaccination and to decrease barriers, should be developed so as to improve parents' health beliefs towards human papillomavirus vaccination.

Factors Influencing Suicidal Ideation in Girls' High School Students (여고생의 자살사고 영향 요인)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify factors which influence suicidal ideation in students in girls' high schools. Methods: The participants were 202 students attending a girls' high school and a specialized girls' high school in D city. Data were collected from October 8 to December 23, 2013. Research tools were suicidal ideation, existential spiritual well-being, interpersonal relations, and depression. Data were analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA with Scheffe-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression by stepwise selection with SPSS/WIN 12.0. Results: Suicidal ideation was negatively correlated with existential spiritual well-being, interpersonal relations, and positively correlated with depression. Effective variables were depression (${\beta}=0.54$, p<.001), existential spiritual well-being (${\beta}=-0.22$, p=.001), and grades (${\beta}=-0.10$, p=.042). These variables explained 52% of the variance in suicidal ideation. Conclusion: Based on the outcomes of this study, it is necessary to design an intervention program that teachers and community mental health nurses can use to increase existential spiritual well-being and decrease the depression and suicidal ideation for students in girls' high schools.

Success Factors Affecting Internationalization Process of Large Vietnamese Companies: A Conceptual Framework

  • Internationalization of multinational companies in the globalized context is a popular topic in the academic world and it is also a strong concern of CEO/managers. However, this topic has not been well discussed in the academic community in Vietnam that can be contextualized in the typical transition economy. This paper is designed to explore critical success factors (CSF) of internationalization of large Vietnamese companies that have contributed major revenue from the international market. Through interviews with CEO/managers of successful companies geared toward world markets, the CSFs of internationalization have been identified and categorized into groups in which each CSF has interaction with each other, and together have combined impacts on the success of internationalization. The research results provide a conceptual framework to analyze factors affecting internationalization of large Vietnamese companies. Thank to this conceptual framework, further exploratory and/or confirmatory research can be developed to locate more success factors of internationalization. In addition, some particularly critical factors of internationalization success of Vietnamese companies are found to be useful to both CEO/managers and policymakers. CEO/managers can benefit from the research results by concentrate their limited efforts/resources in managing these CSFs, and policymaker may design CSF-based policies to boost the internationalization of domestic companies.

The Effects on the Factors of Scholar Resilience for Self-efficiency and Scholar Attainment of High School Student : An Analysis on the Control Effects of Stress Scale (고등학생의 학습탄력성 요인이 자기효능감과 학업성취감에 미치는 영향 : 스트레스 정도의 조절효과 분석을 중심으로)

  • This study analyzed whether the factors of studying resilience of high school students had a control effect on self-efficacy and academic achievements depending on the degree of stress. For this purpose, this study set the cause and effect model and the research hypothesis through literature and then conducted a survey of 292 people of high school students in G metropolitan city. The analysis of this study showed that recognition ability and communication skill, which are the factors of studying resilience, had different effects on self-efficacy and academic achievements depending on the degree of stress. It has great significance that if the stress level of the high school students is lower, self-efficacy and academic achievements are higher. Therefore, this study suggested how to inspire the academic achievements based on the results of this analysis.

Academic Stress, Interpersonal Relationships, and College Life Adaptation of Nursing Students Who Experienced COVID-19 (코로나19를 경험한 간호대학생의 학업 스트레스, 대인관계 및 대학생활적응)

  • This Research is a descriptive study conducted to identify the academic stress, interpersonal relationships, and degree of adaptation to college life of nursing students who experienced COVID-19, and to identify factors influencing college life adaptation. The subjects of the research were sophomore students enrolled in 3 university nursing departments in G city. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis were analyzed. The research result showed a significant negative correlation (r=-.584, p<.001) for academic stress and college life adaptation, and a significant positive correlation (r=.505, p<.001) for interpersonal relationships and college life adaptation. The regression model to confirm the influencing factors on college life adaptation was shown to be significant (F=64.462 p<.001). Academic stress (β=-.542, p<.001), interpersonal relationships (β=.339, p<.001), and housing type (β=.199, p<.001) were found to be significant predictive factors. The explanatory power of these variables was 54.6%. Through the results of this research, it will be possible to provide basic data for developing educational programs to reduce academic stress, improve positive and smooth interpersonal relationships, and improve emotional support for college life adaptation.

The Effect of Online Substitution Class Caused by Coronavirus (COVID-19) on the self-directed learning, academic achievement, and online learning satisfaction of nursing students (코로나19(COVID-19)로 인한 온라인 강의대체가 간호대학생의 자기주도학습능력, 학업성취도 및 온라인 학습만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study is a research study to determine the effect of online lecture substitution for subjects due to COVID-19 on self-directed learning ability, academic achievement, and online learning satisfaction of nursing students. From September to October 2020, the final 113 nursing students of data recovered as enrolled in the Department of Nursing at a university located in G City were analyzed. The data collected were analyzed by performing descriptive statistics and hierarchical regression analysis using the SPSS 21.0 program. The study results are summarized as follows. The average score of self-directed learning was 3.32±0.39, academic achievement 3.32±0.75, and learning satisfaction was 3.31±0.78. Factors affecting online learning satisfaction were found to be preferred learning methods and academic achievement. Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to design instruction and operate classes to improve online learning satisfaction by evaluating the learner's learning method in advance when running nursing school subjects as online lectures for nursing students.

Barriers to Derivative Accounting Disclosure: The Case of Vietnamese Firms

  • This paper explores the barriers to derivative accounting disclosures in Vietnamese companies and ranks their relative importance for effective and efficient remedies. The Delphi technique was applied to get agreement of panel of experts on the measurement of factors hindering disclosure. Unstructured questionnaires were first sent to twelve experts who had both practical experience and academic knowledge in the field to get ideas on the obstructions to derivatives disclosure. The structured questionnaire was designed to get their agreement on barriers to derivative accounting disclosures. The data analysis with mean, median, mode, standard deviation, and quartile has been implemented to ensure the unanimity. Market-related factors, legislation, accountants' attributes, managers' attributes, information technology and communication, and on-site training were the six major obstacles agreed upon by the experts during their in-depth interviews. Then, these factors were ranked by applying the analytical hierarchy process (AHP). The findings confirmed the priority of information technology and communication, which held the greatest weight. Legislation ranked second, followed by market-related factors and on-site training, which explained the impediments to derivatives disclosure. Managers' and accountants' attributes had the least contribution to the barriers to derivative disclosures. The results have important implications for actions to enhance corporate derivative disclosures in Vietnam.

  • This paper investigates the differences between characteristics of street fashions due to regional and cultural differences in southern and northern region of China. Beijing and Shenzhen were chosen as representative cities for the two areas. Empirical research and literature study were performed for this study. Empirical studies were performed by using a total of 708 images of dresses, which were collected through direct imaging. Through discussion with experts, the collected data were classified into five categories; Modern trendy, Romantic, Easy casual, Ethnic, and Classical/Traditional. The data was analyzed by using cross tabulation and frequency analysis. Content analysis for each category was also conducted. As a consequence of this study, a significant difference between Beijing and Shenzhen were observed. As a city, which puts emphasis on practicality and modernity, Beijing showed a higher frequency of modern and trendy style than the other city. On the other hand, Shenzhen showed a higher frequency of romantic style and was distinguished as a city of femininity and decorative preference of fashion style. This study intends to contribute to the academic community of Chinese fashion and to help Korean clothing companies to be launched in Chinese market in the future.

The effects of learning strategies unit time based core achievement standard of science (과학과의 핵심성취기준에 근거한 단위시간 수업전략 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to research about the effects on improvement academic achievement of students based on the core learning standards of science. The researcher selected experimenter and started this study as a graduate student who is majoring in science education, experimenter chose to study 48 Sixth graders in elementary schools in B city for research group(24 students), Comparison group(24 students). The study was conducted from March to the end of July 2014. The teacher who is doing activity of professor in research group and the comparison group is science education specialist. Researcher and experimenter frequently exchange their opinions for control variables of teacher. The results are as follows. First, based on unit time strategies based on core achievement standards classes are effective in improving students' academic achievement. Elementary school teacher has difficulty in teaching for all subjects based on unit time strategies. Second, based on unit time strategies based on core achievement standards classes showed high level of satisfaction in perception of students. Thus it can be seen that teaching strategies of unit time based on the core achievement standards is effective to academic achievement improvement. The proposal for further study based on the results is as follows. First, research is needed to study the teaching methods that have practical and theoretical study time and lesson application opportunity for teaching strategies of curriculum unit time. Second, experimental studies that using strategies of unit time based on the core achievement standards are needed about learning method that can be applied in a variety of subjects.
