A Study on the Verification of Crashworthiness for Fuel System of Military Rotorcraft (군용 회전익항공기 연료계통 내추락성 입증에 관한 연구)

  • The aircraft fuel system performs a number of functions such as supplying fuel, transferring fuel between fuel tanks, and measuring the amount of residual fuel in each fuel tank. Since it is a direct cause of fire hazard in crash incident, it is a must to improve survivability of crew members by designing the airframe to tolerate expected crash impact. The civil aviation authority requires intensive verification of the fuel system design to determine precise application of the airworthiness requirement. Research activity on airworthiness certification criteria and verification scheme is still insufficient, although it has a significant importance. In this paper, as part of a study to improve flight safety by developing guidelines for demonstrating fuel system crash resistance, analysis results of fuel system crash-related airworthiness certification standards, verification scheme, and cases study applicable to military rotorcraft have been reviewed.

  • The Airworthiness Certification from the government has an increasingly important role due to the dramatic growth of military aircraft development industry. It is a mandatory process of qualifying the flight safety within the aircraft's operational boundaries throughout its life cycle. The introduction of airworthiness certification has resulted in development paradigm shift from one requirement for one consumer need to the common requirement for many needs. This research paper provide the refinement of airworthiness certification criteria related to the flight control law and the verification methods which comply with its criteria.

  • As the 21st century signifies an information-oriented society, the computer integration takes place in all walks of human presence. Needs for computer and network-integrated automation present new challenges in military as well as commercial facility systems engineering. Since the first intelligent building appeared in USA in 1984, it gradually became an essential capability for the building industry requirement these days. Intelligent Building System(IBS) is evolving to be very complex because there are many subsystems such as telecommunication(TC), office automation(OA), building automation(BA), security, construction environments, etc. During the planing phase of IBS development, therefore, a disciplined systems engineering must be performed to analyze stake- holder's requirements to build an optimized system while minimizing trial-and-error expenses and risks. This paper presents a conceptual design of BAS applying systems engineering methods. The contribution of this study includes the development of IBS subsystem specification for building automation subsystem, which is a part of IBS, using the methodology of requirement analysis, functional analysis, synthesis, and verification. A computer-aided systems engineering s/w, RDD-100, was used to improve the system design efficiency and to promote the product design knowledge management for reuse in later design programs.

An Experimental Study on Evaluation of Fatigue Safety and Serviceability for the Precast Half Deck Panel Joints (반단면 프리캐스트 판넬 이음부의 피로 안전성 및 사용성 평가를 위한 실험적 연구)

  • Precast members have relatively good quality because they are manufactured in an environment suitable for quality control. A typical precast method in which pre-fabricated segments are assembled in the field requires a joint. Although the joint is a small part of the member, it greatly affects the behavior and quality of the structural member. In the previous study of this paper, the flexural strength of a joint, which is generally applied to half-depth precast deck systems, was verified to have higher strength than the design requirement. In addition, the proposed joint has been verified to have higher strength by reinforcing the connecting rebar. However, even if the flexural strength of the joints is sufficient, excessive deflection or lack of fatigue performance is likely to cause cracks in the half-depth precast deck system. In this study, the serviceability of the half-deck precast panel specimens with joints was evaluated and the experimental verification was conducted to evaluate the fatigue performance of the joint without connection rebar. As a result, the serviceability such as deflection and crack width was found to be higher than the design requirement in all the specimens. In the fatigue test, the fatigue effect was insignificant even in the absence of connection rebar.

  • MATLAB Autocode generation is a feature that converts a block diagram model in Simulink to a c program. Utilizing this function makes MATLAB/Simulink an integrated developing environment, from controller design to implementation. It can reduce development cost and time significantly. However, this automated process requires high reliability on the software, especially the original Simulink block diagram model. And thus, the verification of the codes becomes important. In this study, a UAV flight program which is generated with Simulink is validated and modified according to DO-178B. As a result of applying the procedures, the final program not only satisfied the functional requirement but is also verified with structural point of view with Decision Coverage 93%, Condition Coverage 95% and MC/DC 90%.

A Review of the Literature on Piaget's Methodolgical Approach (Piaget이론(理論)의 비판(批判)에 관한 일소고(一小考) -방법론(方法論) 중심(中心)으로-)

  • The purpose of this paper was to review critiques on methodological problems relating to Piaget's researches in terms of its scientific nature. On the basis of review of literature, the following problems were pointed out: 1. Notwithstanding Piaget's emphasis on the scientific requirement for verification, Piaget was against the deductive method typical of scientific verification. 2. Piaget's theory was so vague that it couldn't be falsified. 3. Piaget ignored criticism of his method, and this was viewed as unscientific in the eyes of most scientists. 4. Avoiding the antecedent-consequence sequence of scientific experimentation, Piaget took the descriptive, rather than the explanative nature. 5. Piaget didn't accept individual differences in cognitive style in his research paradigm. 6. Piaget's experimental procedures looked very simple but they were too complex to understand what was happening. 7. Although Piaget's major ideas treated the child as the active constructor of reality, the child's experimental tasks were structured by experimenter. 8. Piaget's clinical method depended heavily upon language although the procedures required manipulation of objects. 9. Piaget always justified his experiments in terms of protocois selected from all the responses obtained. However, these protocols may not be the most representative responses or behaviors showing the child's cognitive structure.

  • The oxidizer filling system, ground facility of the launch complex, should accept difficult requirements from the launcher sufficiently. The launcher do not have unnecessary insulators for mass reduction and manages liquid oxygen mass fastidiously to satisfy the mission requirement. So, the ground facility should be able to accept its requirements, then we should make the operating process being adjusted. In this paper, the operating process design and verification results on the oxidizer filling ground facility for liquid rocket is demonstrated.

  • Manufacturing industry is one of the core sectors providing national competitiveness and economical impact Today's manufacturing industry is required to fulfill so called Sustainable Factory paradigm from the perspectives of environmental and social development. To cope with the requirements, researches for achieving sustainability in manufacturing system are actively carried out in the world from various perspectives. In this paper, we analyzed systemic characteristics of sustainable manufacturing system, and developed verification & validation strategy based on traceability between system requirement and functionality. The developed methods were applied to a European Project called the Foundation for the Sustainable Factory of the Future (FoFdation). Specifically, we analyzed and verified the deliverables of FoFdation by deriving systems architecture in terms of Component, Function, and Items. The results indicated that the FoFdation is pretty much compliant with the concept of Ubiquitous Factory, and can be used as an International Reference Model for the Smart Factoy, a world wide hot topic under the paradigm of IOT (Internet-Of-Things), if information processing part is supplemented.

  • To verify correct operation of measuring instruments, we request the verification of measuring instrument to the agency that holds inspection devices. This works requires time and cost to the company. For this reason. We proposed "Smart Network Interface Card Model" for remote control of measuring instruments. Our model based on Web adapter, can add, delete and change the program to an existing web adapter from remote system. Furthermore, more than one program can be loaded, and can be updated from the remote system of internet. And also we can change the verification requirement of measuring instrument, hence it makes more good quality and competitive power of instruments.

  • As a sub-system of an air traffic control system, SDP(Surveillance Data Processor) provides with the system tracks of aircraft using the surveillance sensor data from various air traffic surveillance sensors, such as radars. Therefore, the high accuracy of tracking results is a crucial requirement for safe flights, and verification of the required system performance of SDP is an essential step in development. Moreover, the quantitative evaluation of target tracking accuracy is important for newly developed SDP, since there are several tracking methods for Multi-Sensor Multi-Target Tracking, such as MRT(Multi Radar Tracking), inevitably required as the main function of SDP. In this study, definition of required system performances, establishment of test environment, and test results for MRT performance evaluation of SDP, which is being developed in KARI(Korea Airspace Research Institute) are presented.
