Analyzing Vocabulary Characteristics of Colloquial Style Corpus and Automatic Construction of Sentiment Lexicon (구어체 말뭉치의 어휘 사용 특징 분석 및 감정 어휘 사전의 자동 구축)

  • In a mobile environment, communication takes place via SMS text messages. Vocabularies used in SMS texts can be expected to use vocabularies of different classes from those used in general Korean literary style sentence. For example, in the case of a typical literary style, the sentence is correctly initiated or terminated and the sentence is well constructed, while SMS text corpus often replaces the component with an omission and a brief representation. To analyze these vocabulary usage characteristics, the existing colloquial style corpus and the literary style corpus are used. The experiment compares and analyzes the vocabulary use characteristics of the colloquial corpus SMS text corpus and the Naver Sentiment Movie Corpus, and the written Korean written corpus. For the comparison and analysis of vocabulary for each corpus, the part of speech tag adjective (VA) was used as a standard, and a distinctive collexeme analysis method was used to measure collostructural strength. As a result, it was confirmed that adjectives related to emotional expression such as'good-','sorry-', and'joy-' were preferred in the SMS text corpus, while adjectives related to evaluation expressions were preferred in the Naver Sentiment Movie Corpus. The word embedding was used to automatically construct a sentiment lexicon based on the extracted adjectives with high collostructural strength, and a total of 343,603 sentiment representations were automatically built.

Understanding Purposes and Functions of Students' Drawing while on Geological Field Trips and during Modeling-Based Learning Cycle (야외지질답사 및 모델링 기반 순환 학습에서 학생들이 그린 그림의 목적과 기능에 대한 이해)

  • The purpose of this study was to qualitatively examine the meaning of students' drawings in outdoor classes and modeling-based learning cycles. Ten students were observed in a gifted education center in Seoul. Under the theme of the Hantan River, three outdoor classes and three modeling activities were conducted. Data were collected to document all student activities during field trips and classroom modeling activities using simultaneous video and audio recording and observation notes made by the researcher and students. Hatisaru (2020) Ddrawing typess were classified by modifying the representations in a learning context in geological field trips. We used deductive content analysis to describe the drawing characteristics, including students writing. The results suggest that students have symbolic images that consist of geologic concepts, visual images that describe topographical features, and affective images that express students' emotion domains. The characteristics were classified into explanation, generality, elaboration, evidence, coherence, and state-of-mind. The characteristics and drawing types are consecutive in the modeling-based learning cycle and reflect the students' positive attitude and cognitive scientific domain. Drawing is a useful tool for reflecting students' thoughts and opinions in both outdoor class and classroom modeling activities. This study provides implications for emphasizing the importance of drawing activities.

The Uncanny Valley Effect for Celebrity Faces and Celebrity-based Avatars (연예인 얼굴과 연예인 기반 아바타에서의 언캐니 밸리)

  • As virtual space activities become more common, human-virtual agents such as avatars are more frequently used instead of people, but the uncanny valley effect, in which people feel uncomfortable when they see artifacts that look similar to humans, is an obstacle. In this study, we explored the uncanny valley effect for celebrity avatars. We manipulated the degree of atypicality by adjusting the eye size in photos of celebrities, ordinary people, and their avatars and measured the intensity of the uncanny valley effect. As a result, the uncanny valley effect for celebrities and celebrity avatars appeared to be stronger than the effect for ordinary people. This result is consistent with previous findings that more robust facial representations are formed for familiar faces, making it easier to detect facial changes. However, with real faces of celebrities and ordinary people, as in previous studies, the higher the degree of atypicality, the greater the uncanny valley effect, but this result was not found for the avatar stimulus. This high degree of tolerance for atypicality in avatars seems to be caused by cartoon characters' tendency to have exaggerated facial features such as eyes, nose, and mouth. These results suggest that efforts to reduce the uncanny valley in the virtual space service using celebrity avatars are necessary.

Object Detection Based on Hellinger Distance IoU and Objectron Application (Hellinger 거리 IoU와 Objectron 적용을 기반으로 하는 객체 감지)

  • Although 2D Object detection has been largely improved in the past years with the advance of deep learning methods and the use of large labeled image datasets, 3D object detection from 2D imagery is a challenging problem in a variety of applications such as robotics, due to the lack of data and diversity of appearances and shapes of objects within a category. Google has just announced the launch of Objectron that has a novel data pipeline using mobile augmented reality session data. However, it also is corresponding to 2D-driven 3D object detection technique. This study explores more mature 2D object detection method, and applies its 2D projection to Objectron 3D lifting system. Most object detection methods use bounding boxes to encode and represent the object shape and location. In this work, we explore a stochastic representation of object regions using Gaussian distributions. We also present a similarity measure for the Gaussian distributions based on the Hellinger Distance, which can be viewed as a stochastic Intersection-over-Union. Our experimental results show that the proposed Gaussian representations are closer to annotated segmentation masks in available datasets. Thus, less accuracy problem that is one of several limitations of Objectron can be relaxed.

  • We study the tensor product algebra Pk(x1) ⊗ Pk(x2) ⊗ ⋯ ⊗ Pk(xm), where Pk(x) is the partition algebra defined by Jones and Martin. We discuss the centralizer of this algebra and corresponding Schur-Weyl dualities and also index the inequivalent irreducible representations of the algebra Pk(x1) ⊗ Pk(x2) ⊗ ⋯ ⊗ Pk(xm) and compute their dimensions in the semisimple case.   • This study analyzed the meaning and functions of '-(으)ㄹ 것 같다' and '-나 보다' among the various semantic functions depending on the situation, and discussed ways to train speculative expressions more efficiently by expanding them from traditional teaching methods through visualizations applied visual thinking at real Korean language education. The speculative representation, which is the subject of this study, represents the speaker's speculation about something or situation, with slight differences in meaning depending on the basis of the speculation and the subject of the speculation. We propose a training method that can enhance the diversification and efficiency of teaching-learning through visualization of information or knowledge, speculative representations that exhibit fine semantic differences in various situations. Utilizing visual thinking in language education can simplify and provide language information through visualization of language knowledge, and learners can be efficient at organizing and organizing language knowledge. It also has the advantage of long-term memory of language information through visualization of language knowledge. Attempts of various educational methods that can be applied at the Korean language education site can contribute to establishing a more systematic and efficient education method, which is meaningful in that the visual thinking proposed in this study can give interest and efficiency to international students.

Depictions of Scientists and Teachers' Perceptions of the 2015 Revised Elementary School Science Authorized 3rd-4th Grade Textbooks from the Perspective of Gender Equality (양성평등의 관점에서 살펴본 2015 개정 초등학교 과학과 3~4학년군 검정 교과서의 과학자 제시 실태 및 교사의 인식)

  • This study analyzes the depictions of scientists and teachers' thoughts on the 2015 revised elementary school science authorized 3rd-4th grade textbooks from the perspective of gender equality, and suggest improvements for the 2015 elementary school science authorized 5th-6th grade textbooks as well as a 2022 revised elementary school science curriculum. The data consist of representations of scientists found in seven elementary science textbooks provided to 3rd- and 4th-grade students in 2022 as well as in-depth interviews conducted with three elementary school teachers and responses from 32 teachers in Gyeonggi-do. Of the 23 scientists depicted in the textbooks, three (13.0%) are female and 10 (43.5%) worked in the inquiry domain, which was the largest group. When the teachers were asked about their perceptions of the gender ratio of scientists in the textbooks, their answers revealed that they had lower perceptions of female scientists compared to male scientists; moreover, they had no or very little teaching experience concerning female scientists. Furthermore, the teachers' thoughts on improving the gender ratio of scientists depicted in the textbooks differed considerably by the teachers' gender. Based on these findings, it was concluded that during the process of producing textbooks, writers and members of society need to agree on the gender ratio of scientists to be represented, and a social consensus is needed to identify and introduce the achievements of previously unknown female scientists towards gender equality.

Insights from edTPA in the United States on assessing professional competencies of preservice mathematics teachers (미국 edTPA 평가에서 요구하는 예비 수학 교사의 전문적 역량 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to derive implications of preservice mathematics teacher education in Korea by analyzing the case of edTPA used in the preservice teacher training process in the United States. Recently, there has been a growing interest in promoting professional competencies considering not only the cognitive dimension related to knowledge development of preservice mathematics teachers but also the situational dimension considering reality in the classroom. The edTPA in the United States is a performance-based assessment based on lessons conducted by preservice teachers at school. This study analyzes the professional competencies required of preservice mathematics teachers by analyzing handbooks that described the case of edTPA in which preservice mathematics teachers in the United States participate. The edTPA includes planning, instruction, and assessment tasks, and continuous tasks are performed in connection with classes. Thus, the analysis is conducted on the points of linkage between the description of evaluation items and criteria in the planning, instruction, and assessment tasks, as well as the professional competencies required from that linkage. As a result of analyzing the edTPA handbooks, the professional competencies required of preservice mathematics teachers in the edTPA assessment were the competency to focus on and implement specific mathematics lessons, the competency to reflectively understand the implementation and assessment of specific mathematics lessons, and the competency to make a progressive determination of students' achievement related to their learning and their uses of language and representations. The results of this analysis can be used as constructs for competencies that can be assessed in the preservice in the organization of the preservice mathematics teacher curriculum and practice training semester system in Korea.

Affective Representations of Basic Tastes and Intensity using Multivariate Analyses (다변량분석방법을 이용한 미각 자극의 기본 맛과 강도에 따른 정서표상 )

  • According to the core affect theory, affect consists of two independent dimensions of valence and arousal. Previous studies have found that various types of stimuli, such as pictures, videos, and music, are mapped onto the core affect space. However, the research on affect using gustatory stimuli has not been explored sufficiently. This study investigated whether the affects elicited by tastes could be mapped onto the core affect space. Stimuli were selected based on two factors (taste types and intensity). Participants were presented with each stimulus, evaluated the tastes, and rated their affective responses on taste and emotion scales. The data were analyzed using repeated-measures ANOVAs and multivariate analyses (multidimensional scaling and classification). The results of univariate analyses indicated that participants felt positive for sweet stimuli but negative for bitter and salty. Furthermore, participants reported high arousal with high intensity. Multidimensional scaling revealed that taste stimuli are also represented on the core affect dimensions. Specifically, it was confirmed that in the first dimension, sweetness was represented as a positive affect, while bitter and salty tastes were represented as a negative affect. In the second dimension, bitterness was represented as low arousal and sourness as high arousal. Classification analyses confirmed that the taste was identified consistently based on the affective responses within and across participants. This study showed that the taste stimuli in daily life are also located on core affect dimensions of valence and arousal.

Content-based Korean journal recommendation system using Sentence BERT (Sentence BERT를 이용한 내용 기반 국문 저널추천 시스템)

  • With the development of electronic journals and the emergence of various interdisciplinary studies, the selection of journals for publication has become a new challenge for researchers. Even if a paper is of high quality, it may face rejection due to a mismatch between the paper's topic and the scope of the journal. While research on assisting researchers in journal selection has been actively conducted in English, the same cannot be said for Korean journals. In this study, we propose a system that recommends Korean journals for submission. Firstly, we utilize SBERT (Sentence BERT) to embed abstracts of previously published papers at the document level, compare the similarity between new documents and published papers, and recommend journals accordingly. Next, the order of recommended journals is determined by considering the similarity of abstracts, keywords, and title. Subsequently, journals that are similar to the top recommended journal from previous stage are added by using a dictionary of words constructed for each journal, thereby enhancing recommendation diversity. The recommendation system, built using this approach, achieved a Top-10 accuracy level of 76.6%, and the validity of the recommendation results was confirmed through user feedback. Furthermore, it was found that each step of the proposed framework contributes to improving recommendation accuracy. This study provides a new approach to recommending academic journals in the Korean language, which has not been actively studied before, and it has also practical implications as the proposed framework can be easily applied to services.
