Consequence Analysis Using Release Scenario of API-581 BRD for Gas Explosion by Vessel Release (용기누출로 인한 가스 폭발사고에서 API-581 절차의 누출 시나리오에 의한 사고결과 분석)

  • For consequence analysis at a gas explosion by vessel release, release rates, demage areas of facilities, and fatality areas were estimated and analyzed at various conditions(release materials, temperatures, pressures, and vessel types) by using the release scenario of API-581 BRD. Simulation results showed that release rates and consequences in the vessel release were higher than those in the pipe release, and the order of release rates and damage areas was as follows; tank>reactor>drum> column.

  • Since the level 2 PSA of OPR-1000 was the requirement for regulatory purposes, Cs-137 release estimation was contained as the Nuclear Safety Act of ROK in which the Cs-137 release frequency exceeding 100 TBq was determined to happen less than 1.0E-6 per year after the Fukushima Daiichi Accident. However, Cs-137 release estimation from the conventional level 2 PSA of OPR-1000 provided uncertainty due to dominant accident sequence consideration. Thus, this study aimed to develop systematic methods through the overall framework to quantify realistic uncertainty concerns of radioactive material release using sensitivity and uncertainty analysis methods and apply them to OPR-1000. This framework helped to quantify confidential value for the Cs-137 release under the BEPU approach using both parametric and non-parametric methods to cover both realistic and conservative points. Uncertainty propagation analysis showed the unexpected uncertainty increase of Cs-137 release exceeding 100 TBq. The non-parametric uncertainty analysis provided higher conservative concerns for safety than the realistic concerns in terms of economics when compared with the parametric uncertainty analysis. Wilks' uncertainty analysis showed the importance to consider conservative Cs-137 release in order to reach the higher safety need. Sensitivity analysis showed reasonable relationships between engineering safety parameters with the Cs-137 release.

  • In this study, we tried to propose a selection method of release scenarios and a method of consequence analysis at a gas explosion by pipe release. Thus, release rates, damage areas of the facilities, and fatality areas were estimated and analyzed at various release conditions(temperature, pressure, release material, etc). As a results, we could conclude that the rupture was the worst case of release scenarios, and at release rates and damage areas were better estimated by the weighted average method considering a generic failure frequency of the release hole than by an arbitrary selection of the release hole.

  • Accurate heat release analysis of cylinder pressure data is important for evaluating performance in the development of diesel engine However, traditional single zone first law heat release model(SZM) has significant limitations due to the simplified assumption of uniform charge and neglecting local temperature inside cylinder during combustion process. In this study. heat release rate based on single zone heat release model has been evaluated by comparison with computational analysis results using Fire code which is based on multi-dimensional model(MDM). To overcome limitations due to simplicity of single zone assumption. especially the influence of specific heat ratio on gross heat release has been esteemed and newly suggested were the equation $\gamma$= $\gamma$(${T/T}_{max}$) which describes the variations of gases thermodynamic properties with mean temperature and maximum mean temperature inside cylinder Single zone heat release model applied with this equation is shown to give very good results over whole range of operating conditions when compared with computational analysis results based on multi-dimensional model.

  • The main purpose of flavor research using conventional extraction methods, such as solvent extraction, distillation, and dynamic headspace, is to effectively extract, identify, and quantify flavor volatiles present in food matrices. In recent flavor research, the importance of understanding flavor release during mastication is increasing, because only volatiles available in the headspace contribute to the perception of food 'flavors'. Odor potency differs among flavor volatiles, and the physicochemical characteristics of flavor volatiles affect their release behavior and interaction with various food matrices. In this review, a general overview of flavor release and flavor-food interactions within frozen dessert systems is given with emphasis on chemical, physiological, and perceptual aspects. Chemical and sensory analysis methods competent for investigating such flavor-food interactions are illustrated. Statistical analysis techniques recommended for data acquired from such experiments are also discussed.

  • The effect of parameters on the consequence of the flash fire accident by the release of heavy gas(in this study, xylene vapor) was analyzed. Simulation results showed that the distance with the lower flammable limit($X_{LFL}$) was increased with the increase of the release hole diameter. For the case of the elevated release, $X_{LFL}$ was increased with the increase of the wind speed and the release height, but $X_{LFL}$ was not affected by the wind speed for the release on the ground level. Therefore, the accident in the elevated release was more dangerous than the release on the ground level. In this condition, the release height had more effect on $X_{LFL}$ at the night time than the daytime and in the urban area than the rural area.

  • Ethylcellulose-PEG 4000 film coated on core tablets was investigated as a potential drug delivery system for the controlled release of chlorpheniramine maleate (CPM). The kinetic analysis of the release data indicated that CPM release followed a diffusion-controlled model, where the quantity released per unit area is proportional to the square root of time. The effect of the film composition, CPM concentration, plasticizer concentration and CPM solubility on the release characteristics were examined. The release rate constant increased as CPM concentration increased. It also increased as the PEG 4000 content in the film increased above 10%(w/w), however, it decreased as the PEG 4000 content increased in the concentration range below 10%(w/w). The release rate constant was not affected by the coated weight on the core tablet. The film-coated tablets which contain CPM only in the coated film layer seemed to be a potential oral drug delivery system for the controlled release of CPM.

  • Heat release analysis is a very importent method in understanding the combustion phenomena inside an engine cylinder. In this study, one-zone heat release analysis was used with the mesured cylinder pressures of an IDI(indirect injection), a HSDI(high speed direct injection) and a SI(spark ignition) engine. It has benefits of simple equation, fast speed, reliability. The object of the study is to compare the combustion characteristics among an IDI, a HSDI and SI engine. Result of analysis, the maximum heat release rate of a HSDI is higher than an IDI because of long ignition delay period. The heat release curve of a IDI is more linear than an HSDI, so the combustion characteristics of a IDI is similiar to that of an SI engine. There is a suggestion here that the combustion efficiency of a HSDI is highest of that of all engines because of the smallest heat transfer loss of all engines.

  • Global postbuckling analysis is accomplished for one-dimensional and two-dimensional delaminations. A new finite element model, which can be used to model the global postbuckling analysis of one-dimensional and two-dimensional delaminations, is presented. In order to calculate the strain energy release rate, geometrically nonlinear analysis is accomplished, and the incremental crack closure technique is introduced. To check the effectiveness of the finite element models and the incremental crack closure technique, the simplified closed-form sloution for a through-the-width delamination with plane strain condition is derived and compared with the finite element result. The finite element results show good agreement with the closed-foul1 solutions. The present method was extended to calculate the strain energy release rate for two-dimensional delamination. For a symmetric circular delamination, the strain energy release rate shows great variation along the delamination front. and the delamination growth appears to occur perpendicular to the loading direction.
