A Study on the Fire Risk of the Kimchi Refrigerator through Case Analysis of Fire Accidents (사례 분석을 통한 김치냉장고의 화재 위험성에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we describe fire risk of Kimchi refrigerator. The Kimchi refrigerator has been widely spread and used starting from the first half of 2000 and recently fire accidents caused by the Kimchi refrigerator emerged as social concern. In particular, in products of a specific manufacturer, it is not an environmental factor, but a characteristic that the fire is caused due to a defect of the product itself is shown. These features are judged to be formed by unique defects regardless of external factor by forming electrically arc mark in the relay element. In this paper, we analyzed the cause of the fire occurring in the Kimchi refrigerator and finally confirmed the characteristic that the fire occurred mainly in the relay element due to insufficient capacity of the relay element. Therefore, when a fire occurs in a product of the same maker as the Kimchi refrigerator mentioned in this paper, it is always judged that the inspection of the relay element should be carried out.

The Dynamic Performance of a Electro-Dynamometer Type Protective Relay for the D.C Component in the Fault Current (전류력계형 계전기의 고장전류중 직류전류분에 의한 동작특성)

  • An analytical investigation has been carried out for the motion of moving element in electro-dynamometer type directional power relay under A.C source. For the more a time dependent kinetic performance of the element can also be deduced for the D.C component in fault current. The results obtained thus for show that, in the relay with stopper, the performance time for the equal D.C and A.C component can be shorten ca. 0.5Hz in comparison with the fact, the performance time exhibits to delay ca. 0.75Hz under the same conditions for the case of the relay without stopper, it appear that these differences of performance times will not give vise any difficultys for the apects of practical case, however, the obtain results can be applicable in the course of the design of the relay.

PID Autotuning Algorithm Based on Saturation Function Feedback

  • We use the slope bounded saturation nonlinear feedback element instead of relay to find ultimate gain and period of linear plant. Saturation nonlinear element reduces the high harmonics of plant output. The reduction of high harmonics improve the accuracy of describing function method used to find ultimate gain and period. We give a simple procedure to find ultimate gain and period with saturation nonlinear element. A PID controller design method with known time delay element is also given, which is very useful when oscillation is not occurred with nonlinear element.

  • In this paper present Autonomous Adaptive Digital Over Current Relay which acts autonomous setting using voltage and current measured by relay in the change of power systems. Automation of relay setting is required for distribution automation although manual relay setting is used at present. This paper presents Autonomous Relay Setting which knows change of the power system and acquires setting element using the Recursive Least Squares. Relay setting is very difficult work. But proposed relay is expected to decrease burden of relay setting using acquired information of power system change and autonomous setting. Also fast protective ability is expected according to change of power system.

  • This paper proposes a concept for fault diagnosis system based on the relay coordination to deal with unavoidable uncertainties imposed on fault dignosis of substation. This system uses information on the relay setting values and tripped data to identify the faulted element of power system. The proposed concept will be very useful and efficient for substation and control center operator.

  • The nonlinearity of several chemical processes is usually approximated by a series of the nonlinear static element and the linear subsystem. In the case of the model that the nonlinear static element precedes the linear subsystem, it is called a Hammerstein model. It is a Wiener model when the order is reserved. Here we investigate a relay feedback identification method for Hammerstein type nonlinear processes. The proposed method separates the identification of the nonlinear static function from that of the linear subsystem by using a relay feedback method. From two times activation of nonlinear processes, we identify he whole range of the nonlinear static function as well as the ultimate information of the linear subsystem.

  • A HEV-relay plays a significant role as a mechanical switch which determines the operation of a gasoline engine or an electric motor in a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). The HEV-relay has critical two problems in the operating process. First, the unstable current can occur in the operating process of the HEV-relay due to the severe bounce between moving and fixed electrode. Second, noises occur due to impact between electrodes in HEV-relay. In this research, spring properties such as stiffness and initial compression force, and electrode shape are designed to reduce the bounce time and noises caused by impact between moving and fixed electrode. The operating process of HEV-relay is simulated using LS-DYNA3D as explicit finite element code. The optimum spring properties are determined using the response surface method (RSM) as the design methodology, and the electrode shape is newly designed through the modifying the stiffness of moving and fixed electrode.

  • In this papers, We studied system requirement specification, hardware design and implementation, protective algorithm and software design method to implement digital protective relay which has high trust and high function of protection as well as control and metering for power transformers. Protective relay for transformer is implemented on real time using DSP, which is the specific processor for digital signal processing, as a result, it is completed by the wide improvement of arithmetic capability of protective relay. Reliability is proved testing operating value and operating time, reset value and reset time of an relaying element using protective relay tester made in NF Corporation of Japan.

Comparing Impact of STATCOM and SSSC on the Performance of Digital Distance Relay

  • In this paper the impact of a SSSC and a STATCOM on the impedance calculated by a distance relay is investigated. Both analytical analysis and simulations are provided. The STATCOM/SSSC control systems are modeled in detail. It is demonstrated that a SSSC has a greater impact on the calculated impedance by an A-G distance relay element. Several scenarios are considered in the simulations like the impact of the fault conditions, the compensator settings, the power system conditions and so on. All the simulations are carried out in MATLAB/Simulink with detailed models of the SSSC and the STATCOM.

Towards reducing acoustical high-frequency noise of a direct current relay via contact structure (직류 계전기의 접촉구조에 의한 고주파수 소음저감)

  • In this work, a straightforward component design of a direct current (DC) relay equipped in electric vehicles is discussed. The work aims to provide and evaluate effective measures for reducing high-frequency sound from the DC relay carrying electric power. From the operation experiments for the relay, it is observed that noise is caused by the resonance from the forced vibration by the electromagnetic repulsive force originating at the area of electric contacts with a resonance frequency of around 710 Hz ~ 730 Hz. A finite element model for the relay was established to conduct vibration mode analysis, consisting of stationary and movable contacts and a contact spring. Vibration mode analysis indicates that in the resonance frequency, the movable contact with two-point contacts experiences rotational vibration mode. For the proposed relay with a three-point contact, vibration mode analyses give reasonable results of reducing noise at that frequency. Furthermore, for the fabricated relays with the three-point contact, similar results have been obtained. In conclusion, one can see that the proposed measures provide one of the feasible solutions to the reduction of relay noise.
