  • A definition of timbre was proposed which suggested its application to two attributes of sound: "a characteristic which gives a clue to the identify of the sound source, and the quality of sounds which corresponds to the emotive impression timbre are multidimensional. Using semantic differential, the factorial invariance of timbre was investigated and it was found that three factors were dominant: "pleasant", "powerful" and "metallic". The generality of these three factors has been confirmed in Japan. The relation between timbre and physical values was examined. Finally, the usefulness of verbal expression concerning timbre has also been discussed.ing timbre has also been discussed.

  • There are different categorifications of the notion of a ring such as Ann-category due to N. T. Quang, ring category due to M. M. Kapranov and V. A. Voevodsky. The main result of this paper is to prove that every axiom in the definition of a ring category, but the axiom $x_0 = y_0$, can be deduced from the axiomatics of an Ann-category.

  • The effects of introducing hybrid lipids to a lipid bilayer containing saturated and unsaturated lipids immersed in water were studied. The lipid and water molecules were modeled as coarse-grained particles. All particles were simulated by using the dissipative particle dynamics method. The results showed that the hybrid lipids accumulated at the interface between the saturated and the unsaturated lipid domains. The relation between the hybrid lipid concentration and the equilibrium domain size was obtained. Moreover, the sizes of the simulated lipid domains are consistent with that given by the lipid raft definition.

  • In this paper, we present a new definition of conjugacy that can be applied to an arbitrary semigroup and it does not reduce to the universal relation in semigroups with a zero. We compare the new notion of conjugacy with existing notions, characterize the conjugacy in subsemigroups of partial transformations through digraphs and restrictive partial homomorphisms.

  • In this paper, the generalized (p, q)-poly-Genocchi polynomials with variable a is defined by generalizing it more, and various properties of this polynomial are introduced. To do this, we define a generating function and use the definition to introduce some interesting properties as follows: basic properties, relation between Stirling numbers of the second kind and generalized (p, q)-poly-Genocchi polynomials with variable a and symmetric properties.

  • It is known that the kneading matrix associated with a continuous piecewise monotone self-map of an interval contains crucial combinatorial information of the map and all its iterates, however for every iterate of such a map we can associate its kneading matrix. In this paper, we describe the relation between kneading matrices of maps and their iterates for a family of chaotic maps. We also give a new definition for the kneading matrix and describe the relationship between the corresponding determinant and the usual kneading determinant of such maps.

  • A new procedure for determining properties of thick plate finite elements, based on the modified Mindlin theory for moderately thick plate, is presented. Bending deflection is used as a potential function for the definition of total (bending and shear) deflection and angles of cross-section rotations. As a result of the introduced interdependence among displacements, the shear locking problem, present and solved in known finite element formulations, is avoided. Natural vibration analysis of rectangular plate, utilizing the proposed four-node quadrilateral finite element, shows higher accuracy than the sophisticated finite elements incorporated in some commercial software. In addition, the relation between thick and thin finite element properties is established, and compared with those in relevant literature.

  • In this paper, we proposed multimedia based ExamBank system in web environments. In the proposed system the database was designed based on the object-relation model and the application program was implemented with Java such that independent execution would be possible to guarantee no fault for multi-client in Web environments. We defined the Exam entities as objects, and implemented those inter-relationships as user definition and type. In addition, by mapping the schema object of DBMS and JAVA class, it becomes to possible transferring the object systematically between DHMS and JAVA application server.

  • In this paper we consider the definition and mathematical properties of similarity or dissimilarity which have often used in clust analysis, and we apply a hierarchical agglomerative cluster algorithm to a dissimilarity metrx generated by these distance. Here we investigate the effect of relation between distance function and cluster algorithm on the retrieval ability of natural clusters. We present an empirical results for qualitative data as well as quantitative data.
