The most soil anchor works have been concerned with the uplift problem on embedded in non-reinforced soils under pullout test. Symmetrical anchor plates are a foundation system that can be resisting tensile load with the support of around soil in which symmetrical anchor plate is embedded. Engineers and authors proved that the uplift response can be improved by grouping the symmetrical anchor plates, increasing the unit weight, embedment ratio and the size of symmetrical anchor plates. Innovation of geosynthetics in the field of geotechnical engineering as reinforcement materials found to be possible solution in symmetrical anchor plate responses. Unfortunately the importance of reinforcement in submergence has received very little attention by researchers. In this paper, provision of tensile reinforcement under embedded conditions has been studied through uplift experiments on symmetrical anchor plates by few researchers. From the test results it has been showed that the provision of geogrid reinforcement system enhances the uplift response substantially under uplift test although other results are such as increase the ultimate uplift response of symmetrical anchor plate embedded using geosynthetic and Grid Fixed Reinforced (GFR) and symmetrical anchor plate improvement is very dependent on geosynthetic layer length and increases significantly until the amount of beyond that further increase in the layer length does not show a significant contribution in the anchor response.
When the concrete structures were being made with sand containing chloride ion it was knows that corrosion rate of reinforced steel embedded in concrete with chloride ion was higher than that of concrete with on chloride ion. In this study, the operation of Friedel salts affecting the corrosion behavior of reinforced steel embedded in cement mortar was investigated with electrochemical view. Corrosion potential of reinforced steel embedded in cement mortar with sand containing chloride ion was shifted noble direction than that of cement mortar with no chloride ion after immersed 5 month in natural sea water and also corrosion current density decreased with shifting corrosion potential to noble direction. However Friedel salts appeared from surface to 2.5cm of inside direction of mortar specimen, which is located at 11.5$\circ$(2$\theta$) in XRD analysis and the amount of Ca(OH)2 by SEM photograph in cement mortar with chloride ion was larger than that of cement mortar with mo chloride ion. Eventually it is suggested that Friedel salts was resulted from chloride ion and it acted as the corrosion inhibitor.

This paper presents a new method of soil improvement by using semi-flexible vertical reinforcing elements which shows promise for future work. Load tests were conducted on two model footings in a sand box using unreinforced sand and also by reinforcing the sand with vertical reinforcing elements. The ultimate bearing capacity for the unreinforced and reinforced sand has been compared. The effect of length, spacing, lateral extent of the reinforcement, and the initial relative density of sand in increasing the ultimate bearing capacity have been evaluated. The effect of roughness of the reinforcing elements has also been investigated. Based on the results of these model footing tests, it appears that significant improvement in the ultimate bearing capacity of loose and medium sands can be achieved by reinforcing with vertical elements.
This study was carried out with a view to increasing the tensile strength of sand soil and examined the characteristics of the tensile strength of sand soil reinforced by hair fiber which is environmentally friendly. The study investigated the change of the tensile strength and the stress-strain relationship varying the length of hair fiber, the amount of hair fiber, the amount of cement, and curing days. The test results indicated that the tensile strength increased significantly with hair fiber mixed. In addition, the sand soil mixed with hair fiber had larger displacement at failure. Based on the test results, it is appeared that the environmentally friendly hair fiber could be utilized practically to increase the tensile strength of sand soil in the future.

In an effort to find alternate, environment friendly and sustainable building materials, the scope of possible utilization of iron slag (I-sand), generated as a by-product in iron and steel industries, as fine aggregates in reinforced cement concrete (RCC) made with manufactured sand (M-sand) is examined in this manuscript. Systematic investigations of the physical, mechanical, microstructural and durability properties of I-sand in comparison with RCC made with M-sand have been carried out on various mix designs prepared by the partial/full replacement of I-sand in M-sand. The experimental results clearly indicate the possibility of utilizing iron slag for preparing RCC in constructions without compromising on the property of concrete, durability and performance. This provides an alternate possibility for the effective utilization of industrial waste, which is normally disposed by delivering to landfills, in building materials which can reduce the adverse environmental effects caused by indiscriminate sand mining being carried out to meet the growing demands from construction industry and also provide an economically viable alternative by reducing the cost of concrete production.
Sand Compaction Piles (SCPs) are constructed by feeding and compacting sand into soft clay ground. Sand piles have been installed with irregular cross-sectional shapes, and mixtures of both sand and clay, which violate the design requirement of circular shape according to the replacement area ratio due to various factors, including side flow pressure. Therefore, design assumptions cannot be satisfied according to the conditions of the ground and construction and the replacement area ratio. Two case histories were collected, examined, and interpreted in order to study the effect of the shape of SCPs. The effects of the distortion of SCP shape and the mixture of sand and clay were studied with the results of large direct shear tests. The design internal friction angle was secured with the irregular cross-sectional sand piles regardless of the replacement area ratio. The design internal friction angle was secured regardless of mixed condition when the mixture of sand and clay was higher than the replacement area ratio of 65%. Therefore, systematic construction management is recommended with a replacement area ratio below 65%.

Abstract A series of permeability tests was performed on the mixtures with specific mixing rates of sand and bentonite using modified rigid-wall permeameter. Sand-bentonite mixtures were permeated by organics, ethanol and TCE. Permeability of bentonite with several mixing rates had a tendency to decrease up to initial one pore volume and permeability was thereafter converged to a constant value. When sand-bentonite mixtures was permeated by water, permeability was decreased at the beginning but it was thereafter converged to a constant. Among several mixing rates, permeability was greatly decreased at 15% of mixing rate. When sand-bentonite mixtures with 15% mixing rate was permeated by ethanol, permeability was about 10 times larger value than permeability of water. Peameability was shown greater values when permeated by TCE (TrichloroEthylene) followed by ethanol. Suitable mixing rate of sand-bentonite for a liner of waste landfills was detected.
Earth reinforcement by using geogrids as reinforcing materials are widely applied to several earth structures. The bearing capacity of geogrid reinforced foundation soils is usually examined on based on the rigid plasticity theory or Limit Equilibrium Method. Method of analysis such Limit Equilibrium Method provide no detail information about failure behaviour or strain which develop in the reinforcement or foundation. In this paper the analysis of failure behaviour of strip footing on geogrid-reinforced sand over a soft caly was investigated by using a numerical method. A series of finite element analyses were performed on a geogrid-reinforced strip footing over a soft clay including number of geogrid layers, length, depth. We effectively investigated the failure behaviour and improvement of bearing capacity on the reinforced foundation soil by using FEM program.

Background and Necessity of the study : For more than 20 years, the soil engineering reserach group of Chonnam National University has been performing the deformation analysis of soft clayey foundation, since the University is located near the south-western coast of Korean Peninsulla, along which tide reclamation works have been under proaressing. Associsted with the fact mentioned above, the researchers have been developing a computer program in order to carry out deformation analysis of soft foundation since early 1980. Case-studies : In this research, the Biot's equation was selected as the governing equation coupled with several constitutive models including original and modified Cam-clay models, elasto-viscoplastic model, Lade's model etc. The anisotropy of soi1 can be considered in this program. To validate the accuracy of the computer program developed a couple of case-studies were performed. These include the pilot banking, sand drain considering smear effect and compound foundation reinforced with sheet pile into soft foundation.i) The pilot banking Good results could be acquired by assuming banking load as the body force composed of finite element mesh rather than equivalent concentrated load.ii) The sand drain Due to smear, the delay of consolidation was remarkable at the early stsge. so safety for the failure of foundation should be checked for the initial step of consolidation. iii) The compound foundation Accurate results were obtained by introducing the joint element method for the soft foundation reinforced with sheet pile into soiㅣ.
