  • The magnetosphere is often perturbed by impulsive input such as interplanetary shocks and solar wind discontinuities. We study how these initial perturbations are propagating within the magnetosphere over various latitude regions by adopting a three-dimensional numerical dipole model. We examine the wave propagation on a meridional plane in a time-dependent manner and compare the numerical results with multi-satellite and ground observations. The dipole model is used to represent the plasmasphere and magnetosphere with a realistic Alfven speed profile. It is found that the effects of refraction, which result from magnetic field curvature and inhomogeneous Alfven speed, are' found to become important near the plasmapause. Our results show that, when the disturbances are assumed at the subsolar point of the dayside magnetosphere, the travel time becomes smaller to the polar ionosphere compared to the equatorial ionosphere.

  • Electromagnetic interference (EMI) is defined as the interaction phenomena of electromagnetic waves scattered from a large structure or complex terrain. In this study, the propagation of linear wave is modeled with ray theory, direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC), and some classical theories on flat plates. The wave physics of reflection, refraction, and diffraction are simulated for the investigation of front and back scattering of the one-dimensional plane wave from a tower with ray theory and DSMC, respectively. The effect of rotating disk idealized from the real wind-turbine blades is modeled with a simplified version of the classical electromagnetic theory as well as DSMC based on the ray theory.

  • In a linear dispersive system, the combined effect of water wave frnnsformations such as refraction, diffraction, shoaling, and reflection can be predicted by the mild-slope equation which was developed by Berkhoff (1972) using the Galerkin-eigenfunction method. In the derivation of the equation, he assumed a mild slope of the bottom $\nabla$h/kh << 1 (where $\nabla$ is the horizontal gradient operator, k is the wavenumber, and h is the water depth) and thus neglected second-order bottom effect terms proportional to O($\nabla$h)$^2$ and O($\nabla$$^2$h). • Water waves propagate over irregular bottom bathymetry are transformed by refraction, diffraction, shoaling, reflection etc. Principal factor of wave transform is bottom bathymetry, but in case of current field, current is another important factor which effect wave transformation. The governing equation of this study is develop as wave-current equation type to investigate the effect of wave-current interaction. This wave-current model was applied to the Kwangan beach which is located at Pusan. The numerical simulation results of this model show the characteristics of wave transformation and flow pattern around the Kwangan beach fairly well.

  • Today's diopter of optical lens can reveal the derivation apparently compared with that of refraction measure lens. First, this is applicable when there is a difference in the shape and thickness basically and when the lens is used for a short distance. When measure and use it, an astigmatic difference is occurred by the discordant light passage. This is also applicable to optical lens with prism diopter lens and in some cases, must be corrected relating to the diopter incidently.

  • This study aims at the examination of the characteristics of sectional design by Raumplan through the analysis of his 12 houses in which his architectural design concept is clearly showed. The analysis proceeded through 12 sectional drawings, because of Raumplan is originated from the spatial concept which is dividing spaces with various differences of horizontal level. Through this investigation, three characteristics of sectional design by Raumplan which is to present : 1) Free horizontal variation by different level 2) Spatial division by splitted wall 3) Horizontal & vertical refraction of viewpoint & movement These characteristic seems like to including his intention to put into the various human behaviour in residence, it can be spatial clue to solve existential experience of 'homelessness' which is one of the biggest problems of modern times.

  • A newly designed pressure-scanning slit viscometer is developed to combine an optical device without refraction while measuring blood viscosity over a range of shear rates. The capillary tube in a previously designed capillary viscometer was replaced with a transparent slit, which is affordable to mount optical measurement of flowing blood cells. Using a pressure transducer, we measured the change of pressure in a collecting chamber with respect to the time, p(t), from which the viscosity and shear rate were mathematically calculated. For water, standard oil and whole blood, excellent agreement was found between the results from the pressure-scanning slit viscometer and those from a commercially available rotating viscometer. This new viscometer overcomes the drawbacks of the previously designed capillary viscometer in the measuring whole blood viscosity. First, the pressure-scanning slit viscometer can combine an optical instrument such as a microscope. Second, this design is low cost and simple (i.e., ease of operation, no moving parts, and disposable).

  • Two of fundamental approaches that can be used to understand ion-solid interaction are Monte Carlo (MC) and Molecular Dynamic (MD) simulations. For the simplicity of simulation Monte Carlo simulation method is widely preferred. In this paper, basic consideration and algorithm of Monte Carlo simulation will be presented as well as simulation results. Sputtering caused by incident ion beam will be discussed with distribution of sputtered particles and their energy distributions. Redeposition of sputtered particles that are experienced refraction at the substrate-vacuum interface additionally presented. In addition, reflection of incident ions with reflection coefficient will be presented together with spatial and energy distributions. This Monte Carlo simulation will be useful in simulating and describing ion beam related processes such as Ion beam induced deposition/etching process, local nano-scale distribution of focused ion beam implanted ions, and ion microscope imaging process etc.
